So it's the 4th of July and my nails look busted . I do a google search for nail salons in Irvington, NJ and a few pop up. I start calling... No one is answering . Then I call No. 1 Nails and they say that they are open for a few hours and that I can come in. I only wanted a manicure but was told they are only doing OPI gel and something else I could not quite understand, but who cares, this is like once in a lifetime!! I'll take the OPI Gel please!!! I have been to Irvington Shopping Center on Springfield Avenue for the various nail salons many times before but I have never crossed paths with No. 1 Nails. As my GPS instructs me to their address I realize it's not exactly in the midst of the center but a bit past it, as if going towards Maplewood. I find the salon, go in (look around in amazement, because it actually looks pretty nice), sit down for a few, then I am asked what am I in for (not exactly in those jailhouse terms). I said I wanted the gel manicure but when I got with my nail technician Tom I asked about getting a color change for my toes as well (then I was going to slip in a little waxing to go along lol). I asked Tom how much the OPI and color change would be... He said $33... then $38 , this was fine though... but THEN when Tom was done with my nails I guess he spoke with a co-worker or manager and was told it would be $45 ... The OPI Gel was only $30, so the color change is $15 ?! I'll pass... maybe that was a 4th of July rate, idk, but I'll pass . I could have paid for it, but the fact that they got my hopes up aggravated me... No. 1 Nails didn't seem so Number One-e anymore . So anyway I decided to get my mustachio waxed in place of the color change on my toes... This brought my total to $35; $30 OPI gel and $5 lip wax (not a bad price for a lip wax at all). My lip wax was done by a female , I think she could have been more precise in the hair removal process. Also, Tom did a good job with the OPI gel on my nails, I don't think it's really that difficult to do though. There was no massaging of my hands like I have experienced else where but it's the 4th of July so I'll have to come back on a regular day to get a good feel for the place.. I'll let that slide. For my first time visit I give No. 1 Nails a 4-star rating. They are open on the 4thofJ and I love my nails, waxing... not so much. I subtracted 1 star for the confusion over the price, it made them seem very disorganized and now I'm walking around with pink toenails and sparkly blue fingernails, fml. read more

I have been going to this salon for almost 7 years. It's not the most glamour place in the world, but the do the best pedicures that I have ever had. So much so that a few years a go I move an hour away and I would take the drive back to have them do my toes. If you are looking to get a full set. The best person to see Jenny. She is the owner of the shop and she does an amazing job. Sometimes I think that she over charges, because the prices are not posted anywhere. The best person for a pedicure is Myra or Jenny. I've been using this salon monthly for about a year and a half now. Linda is the only good nail tech in the whole building, between me and my sisters we have tried them all so I can fairly say that, her brother Phi does a decent job when Linda is not there but I just leave and return when she is available. I am not the only one who feels that way so she will definitely have a bit of a wait for her chair unless you make it there very early, I am usually there when they open now. The other techs do poor jobs and have poor attitudes when their errors are pointed out. The pedicures are kool depending on the person but that's usually how it is, they have quite a few good ones though. Horrible service by pedicurist and equally as horrible response from owner, Linda. This was my first visit and will most definitely be my last. There are SEVERAL nail salons in the area. Spend your money in a place where your money, time, and respect are appreciated. The pedicurist was very rough doing my pedicure. So rough that she cut too much skin from my toe and continued on until I stopped her and made her acknowledge my broken skin to treat it. She lied about filling in acrylic, saying they didn't need to be filled, when she filed away most of it, shaped my big toe nail in a slant, not wanting to even correct it, didn't buff any of my nails, leaving a bumpy finish to the polish, and half did the callous remover process -saying they don't use the plastic wrap. I really hate to complain while receiving service. I try to avoid confrontation and more poor treatment. I explained to the owner I am unhappy with my pedicure results and her statement to me was "maybe you messed it up". She never even asked how they could fix the problem, until I expressed my disappointment with her ignorant response. Too late LINDA. I'd rather spend my time doing my own nails then to have service done or correted by anyone there. Nasty experience from beginning to end. read more

2.5 stars* I've been coming to this place for almost a decade for no reason other than convenience & pedicure price ($15). I've pretty much gotten every service except eyebrow wax (no one should be trusting regular nail salons with brows ). The good thing about this place: cheapest pedicure around and the pedicures are actually very decent for what you pay. Every other service is a hit or miss: TIPS: If you're getting tips they're not bad. I cant say it will always be a hit. I've had my tips break within 24hrs and others I've had last well over 2 weeks. GEL MANI: if you're getting a gel manicure without tips these also come out very nice. Again it's not always a hit (usually is). But they charge way too much. ($40). Might as well put tips on. REGULAR MANI: hands down the worst service to get here. None and I mean NONE of my regular mani's have ever come out ok. You are GUARANTEED chipped polish within 24hrs. The polish they use is so cheap. Of course it lasts on toes because you hardly do any tasks with your feet. Even shaping up the nails is not always neat either. Last but not least SANITATION here is something that I continue to raise my brows at. I've see them move from person to person with nothing more than a soap bath for their tools. I had a bad experience here. I felt like they wanted to get me in and then get me out. Mind you, the place was not crowded at all. I came in for acrylics, a pedi, and lash extensions (10/09). The guy doing my nails did a rushed job. It came out okay but the shape is completely not what I wanted when I blatantly told him I wanted a coffin shape. He forgot that I needed a pedi and lashes as well. He finished up my nails by the nail dryer while he called over the girl to do my lashes. I was sitting in the regular chair (not the one you sit in to get your lashes done), so she was bending my neck back and quickly doing my lashes. She didn't ask if I wanted to take a moment to blink and didn't give them a chance to dry. So when I blinked because she was holding my lids up, my eye (although briefly) got stuck together. It was at this moment that I got even more annoyed from what I was already and told them to give me my money back for the pedi and lashes. She also tried to take the lashes off without any remover, so it was painful. I won't ever go back here again. read more

I used to like this place. I like to go to the nail salon to treat myself. They use a lot of new techs that have no license or experience. They only care about the money and rush through the processes. The nail polishes are so diluted that they streak and chip within a day. They barely give a massage anymore they just go through the process. Oh yeah you get two different people one for a manicure and the other for pedicure. So they get more for tips. I do not recommend!
