Chicken Milanese, feta, pepitas, dates, wilted Romaine.

The dining room at Neiman Marcus department Store in Mission Valley is located on the third (top) level of the store. It is tucked away in a quiet corner in the gifts section. Before going into the dining room, be sure to check out all of the beautiful gifts avalaible at Neiman Marcus. The dining room at Neiman Marcus is famous for its warm chicken consomme soup, served in a small coffee cup. It is also well known for lighht and airy popovers, served with a most delectable strawberry butter. Today my waiter was Mattie, who was kind and efficient. I ordered two glasses of California sparkling wine. Thereafter, for my luncheon, I ordered the Chicken Milanese, served with Feta Cheese, dates and wilted Romaine lettuce. I enjoyed it very much. After lunch was an espresso.

Tucked in the corner of the third floor of Neiman Marcus (where the store's restooms are also located), [[HIGHLIGHT]]NM Cafe is a bright, airy spot that offered a surprisingly calm escape from the weekend bustle.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were seated right away on a Saturday around 2 PM, which was lucky considering the crowd, there were lots of girlies (young groups and wise groups!) catching up and families celebrating early Mother's Day. Right after sitting down, we were each given a complimentary popover with strawberry butter and a warm cup of beef broth which already brightened the experience. * Popover, Butter & Broth: The popover was light and airy, and the strawberry butter was naturally sweet and creamy. The warm beef broth was simple but satisfying, and I loved having something savory to balance the sweetness. * Strawberry Spring Cocktail: This was a lovely mix of strawberry and honeydew. You could taste a hint of alcohol without it being overpowering. On the sweeter side, but the grape notes helped round it out. * Chicken Tortilla Soup: This was flavorful with a good kick, there's jalapeños included but in my opinion it's not overly spicy! They use large broken tortilla chips instead of strips, which gave it a heartier feel but can make spoonfuls feel chunky. * Sampler Plate (Soup, Half Chicken Salad Sandwich, Market Salad): This was your classic cafe food. The chicken salad sandwich was generous on the chicken and served on nicely toasted bread. The soup was a cozy minestrone-style that I think was Zuppa Bolognese but can't remember, and the salad was fresh. * Grilled Tuna: My dad asked for it cooked a certain way, and they happily accommodated. The tuna was flavorful without being overly fishy, and I ended up switching plates with him after finishing my soup! The veggies and potatoes paired well. * Crab Cakes: Two generously packed cakes that had lots of crab, and was well-seasoned and tender. Great on their own, though the tartar sauce was a nice option. Overall, this was a lovely stop to rest and recharge mid-shopping. The setting was comfortable, and our server was a friendly young man who shared how packed they were going to be the next day for Mother's Day. I'd definitely come back if I were in the area and looking for a quiet, quality sit-down spot.

Neiman Marcus Cafe is located on the 3rd floor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice view outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our meal started with popovers. Crispy outer layer and delicate insides a bit like a croissant. Loved the light buttery flavor. I found out you can order them to go 2 for $5. Good deal for such a delicious snack. Beef had a nice char which gave the beef a smoky flavor. Sadly the beef was a bit dry and was well done rather than the medium I had ordered. Bacon was crunchy with a tasty smoked flavor. Lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp. Would be very tasty with a bit less cooking. Service was excellent from the friendly staff. We loved our Valentine's Day celebration at Neiman Marcus Cafe.

A hidden, upper-class secret is the Neiman Marcus cafe. Only one who spends enough time inside finds the need to stay inside to eat as well! However, it is a fun fantasy to have a bite with amazing service and complementary popovers with strawberry butter with every meal! Not to mention the consomé that is a wonderful start to the meal. Always good to treat yourself to a nice meal and kind service!

Blacken Salmon Tacos, a go to when I'm unsure what I want. Always satisfying!

Absolutely adore NM cafe. It's my location favorite in the Neiman Marcus brand. The food and service is always impeccably consistently! Thank you to Kayla and team for always hosting a truly exceptional dining experience!!!

So I am glad we decided to share the biscuits and gravy but let me run down each thing. Bloody Mary Flight: Honestly every single one was amazing. My favorite was definitely the pickle Mary! Everything tasted so delicious and was garnished beautifully. Well worth the 22 dollars. Biscuits and Gravy: Absolute perfection of comfort food. The biscuits were so fluffy and well seasoned. The gravy was also soooo good, just like my mom makes. The sausage in it was also cooked so well and juicy. I've never tried mashed potatoes with the biscuits and gravy but it worked very well! Orange Juice: Not a fan really, not pulpy enough and I wasn't a fan of the flavor. Overall this is definitely a must visit! I will definitely be back.

The restaurant itself has an open and welcoming atmosphere, comfortable seating, good a/c, friendly service, a good variety of menu options...however, the cost for what you get doesn't equate. Now, their prices are fair, compared to many other places out there, but due to the lack of quality it just hits harder. My Monte Cristo was so sad-looking and dry. The turkey was heavily peppered, which might be okay in any other turkey sandwich, but this did not go well with what a Monte Cristo should taste like (iykyk)...even when the raspberry jam was added all you could taste was pepper. In addition to the strong pepper taste, the turkey itself was extremely dry and shredded to pieces when I tried to remove it. Very disappointed. When I told our waiter, who was very friendly and had been attentive, he said that he'd let the cook know--and that was it. No follow up. No apology. My son had the French toast and it was okay, nothing special. I usually have lunch here, but it's been a few years since I've been here for breakfast -- so this was a bummer. The past few times I felt like the quality was slipping, but I chalked it up to a possible "off" day...but this recent visit confirmed that they weren't "off" days and the quality truly has slipped. Hopefully they can reevaluate things and make some improvements. They have a good menu and nice concept, I just hope they improve their quality and presentation.

The crust perfectly protects the light and fluffy inside and holds the maple icing beautifully! The bacon is crunchy and crispy and the perfect complimentary salty crunch to the soft warm dough. It's a unique mouth feel and you want to eat all 3. I recommend ordering them last The caramelized brie and braised duck skillet hash was so unique and delicious, we had never had something like that before. The meat was juicy and melted in your mouth with the brie and soft scrambled eggs. The bread was toasted a crisp golden brown and was the perfect vehicle for the hash. He mentioned they'd course the dishes out, 2 at a time, ensuring each of the dishes were paired intentionally. Beet Salad From someone who's not easily impressed with vegetable-led dishes, this was delicious. This dish was visually vibrant, and the flavor mirrored that vibrancy. The beets themselves were stunningly soft, even juicy I'd say. It's root-y flavor was ever-present, but it never became unwelcome on the dish. "Fragrant" is another word we all used to describe the plate, with the fresh mint and succulent citrus fruit widening each our eyes. Sweet, savory, fresh and...creamy. This salad sat on top of a delightful carrot labneh, which provided a creamy element further elevating the dish. It brought a bit of tang to the salad that I appreciated. Finally, there was a crunchy detail (which we know I love) from intelligently included pieces of pastelli--a Greek treat made from sesame seeds and honey, and that sweet crunch fostered the table's excitement. Trust was firing on cylinders early, strong start. Hamachi Crudo Insane. I'm a big fan of the amount of flavor that's packed in such a delicate dish. Off rip, you're met with a visually exciting dish. Red, green, and purple from the thinly sliced pepper, cucumber, and radish pop right off the dish. Bright colors and exquisite execution, placed in a circle to match the shape of the dish, had each of us salivating. With the first taste, the crisp bite of fresh cucumber catches your senses immediately, and then subtly spicy, cream sauce. It was aguachile blanco--my first time having the blanco variant. The flavor was stupid, I struggled to describe it's uniqueness. The Mexican flavor profile was proliferated by fresh cilantro and thinly sliced radish, followed with a textured salsa seca. The light nature of the dish paired pristinely with the beet salad. Now, these next two dishes were an exciting 1-2 punch in showing you exactly what Chef is all about--that signature wood fire Wood Grilled Cauliflower I always eat my vegetables, but I rarely enjoy them. They're two for two in accomplishing that feat. In a bowl lined with curry, they served up a healthy helping of cauliflower that showcases its smokiness first. With that first bite, you taste the fire quickly, but what surprised me most was how soft each piece of the veg was. The curry and smoky flavor from the wood fire paired deliciously. Though, my favorite aspect of this delivery was the inclusion of raisins and fresh mint. This was a new combo for me, and it delivered. The sourness from the raisins and the cool, herbaceous qualities of the mint cut right through the charred flavor. A beautiful contrast. As we continued to dismantle the plate, there was a familiar flavor that we all recognized but couldn't identify. Maybe it was the serrano aioli or the black lentils. Either way, we all enjoyed this one. Wood Grilled Octopus This was a favorite of mine, but I was alone in that regard. While nobody disliked the dish, the table had mixed reviews. For me, this was perfectly cooked. The texture of the octopus was ridiculous with a cooking technique that created a crispy exterior while maintaining a tender bite. The smokiness didn't shy away here either. I mean damn. Most weren't a fan of the pepperoni, but fresh, ground meat added a rustic flavor pop that satiated my palate. It held that beloved pepperoni flavor, but this style allowed for it's flavor to spread across each bite. What made this dish unique from any other octopus I've had was the addition of castelvetrano olives and legumes. They both brought an interesting flavor and texture element that surprised me. Lastly, the salsa verde served as a perfect sauce, providing an element of moisture that complimented the charred features. Well done. After round two is when shit got real. Crab Fried Rice OH SHIT. WTF. One of the best rice dishes I've ever had. This is one we all wished was much much bigger. Despite the name, this dish includes chunks of incredibly juicy, wood-roasted lobster that there was never going to be enough of. The crab was shredded and could be found in each bite of plump rice, providing a pleasing flavor. Both a lemongrass emulsion and Thai chili were included, offering a wonderful duality of zest and spice. I thoroughly enjoyed the basil and cashew elements as they created some extra variety in flavor and texture. Not much else is needed for me to say, it's a must order. Char Sui Glazed Brisket OH SHIT. There is a "happy hour" on Monday but it's called Ouster Monday, oysters are $1 and they have different specials that are not offered on the normal happy hour. Got the crispy chicken wings, Wagyu longaniza, and burger The chicken wings were very crispy and came topped with a jalapeño relish. The relish had a citrusy taste to it or maybe it was the liquid from the pickled jalapeños. I liked the crispness of the chicken but I think the relish was too acidic for me. The Wagyu longaniza was my favorite, very strong beefy flavor. It came on top of salsa matcha which i thought was very tasty so much that I dipped the wings and burger in the sauce. The slice of radish on top gave it a nice texture and crunch. I see the Wagyu hotdog is offered on the oyster Monday special so I'm gonna have to come back and try that for sure. The burger was cooked nicely, medium as requested. It came topped with an egg, truffled onion jam, and cheddar cheese. The bun was nicely toasted and the egg and cheese added a nice rich element to it but I didn't care for the onion jam, it gave the burger an overall sweet profile. I'd simply ask for it without next time. Over all a solid burger, maybe I'd add bacon too. I also had a margarita which was on happy hour special. I asked for it to be spicy and they added a tajin rim which was nice. Spicy and refreshing! Parking is all on the street so I had to part a few blocks away. Overall a solid happy hour. I'll be back on Oyster Monday for the hot dog and fish collars.
