I eat Thai food at least once a week and was craving it on my trip to Amsterdam. NK Thai Noodles is a block from where I'm staying. What a lucky find!
The restaurant is small with an assortment of tables seating 1 to 8. I was a bit worried when I arrived in the afternoon as I was the only one there. A Thai family of 6 came in after me so I thought, cool!
With my stomach recovering from alcohol OD the night before, I wanted soup.
The Chicken Noodles soup is excellent! It's not like any American chicken noodle soup I've ever tasted. It's authentic Thai with deep flavors, fresh noodles, fresh Asian vegetables, fresh Asian mushrooms, chicken cuts and a big drumstick. It's full of white pepper, cinnamon, star anise and spices, but not hot spicy which was perfect for my tummy.
I went back the next day at 8 pm for dinner and the place was packed with every table filled on a Friday. It was Amsterdam Pride so I expected a crowd. I came back an hour later and it was still packed. I almost took takeout, but the friendly waitress offered me a one seat table.
Rad Na Mee Grob with seafood was so delicious. The fresh crispy noodles were perfectly cooked. I could tell everything else was fresh. The gravy was super tasty.
Another staff person walked by and handed me the condiment tray saying I need this. She was right as I added some hot chili powder and another condiment.
All in all the best Thai noodles I've had in recent memory. Everything fresh!
Worth a stop if you're craving noodles. Reservations might be necessary on weekends. read more
