The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. They seated us twenty minutes before closing with a gracious smile. The menu is expansive with great variety. The food was fantastic. Came here as a group of 3 after a yogic breathing class in the neighborhood. Hadn't made a booking but they had tables free (it was around 8:30-ish) and we went thru the 6 page menu and made our selections: Starters 1) Chicken satay - it was okay. Chicken was thinly sliced, but still tender. Lacked seasoning for my tastes. 2) Fish cakes - liked this starter much more than the Chicken Satay. The size of the fish cake was pretty big and whatever seasoning they used plus also the accompanying sauce, it was delicious! Mains: 1) Pad Thai - pretty decent taste, but wasn't expecting it to be as spicy as it was! Also thought it needed just a bit more of the sourness normally found in this dish. 2) Pork with pepper - this was okay. Pork was well cooked, but there weren't that many veggies, just mainly green beans. I thought the taste of the curry was decent, but nothing spectacular. However I wouldn't get this dish again. 3) Phad TomYam aka mixed seafood with spicy Tom Yam sauce (#221 on the menu) - only 3 kinds of seafood (3 pieces of mussels, some calamari & shrimp plus broccoli, mushrooms & baby corn for vegetables). I liked the taste of the curry but wish the seafood had included pieces of fish too. Perfect level of heat for me, and with the plain boiled rice to sop up the curry, it was the best dish of the night for me. 4) Fried Rice - really enjoyed the taste of the fried rice here. Not a lot of veggies, however decent amount of fried egg - for me, the taste was delicious and very calming after all the curries. One thing to note - food came out super quick - Normally there's a bit of a waiting time in most restaurants in the Netherlands, but not this time! Our starters came out within 5 mins of our order and our mains didn't take more than 10 minutes. Service was courteous and professional. I thought it interesting that a bottle of wine and Perrier was left on the table to tempt unwary diners. Oh yeah - they also had traditional tables where you sort of sat on the floor, like proper Thai style dining. Not sure of total dining cost as one of my colleagues picked up the tab but I'd estimate around €50-ish? Overall enjoyed the meal enough that I wouldn't mind checking out this restaurant again. All good. Real good. Large menu, draft Bavaria beer on tap, seems owned and operated by actual Thais- (not Chinese, Vietnamese or Hmong.) The first thing I noticed as we entered Erawan was the steamy aroma of fresh boiled jasmine rice. Rice lovers know what I am talking about. It was the kind of aroma that pulls you inside and makes you want to spend an evening there. That's exactly what we did, with added conversation and culinary adventures. While Netherlands excels in almost every thing, there is a definite and well-acknowledged dearth of authentic dining experiences. Finding the gems takes efforts and months of living here. Luckily for us, we had the local authority otherwise known as Tanya V. carefully pondering over our dining options for the evening. It was a spark of genius that triggered Erawan. The rest is history, as they say. OK, enough of that. The food is great! I had the yellow curry thing (was it number 77?) with veggies and extra tofu and cashews. Everyone tried something different. My food was delicious, and definitely the best Thai dinner I have ever had in my almost 3 years of living in this country. The aromas, I can't stop thinking about them. Portions were generous (filled us up), presentation was good, and the service nice and fast, just like at a non-Dutch restaurant. When they say spicy hot, they don't mess around, though. When laziness struck our house and I didn't feel like cooking dinner, Foodspotting showed me a picture of someone's pad thai from Erawan Thai, and I made my boyfriend bike with me to get some immediately. Instantly gratifying, the service was friendly and QUICK. Our spring rolls and dumplings were served soon after sitting, and my beautiful pad thai was just as delicious as it was pretty. Garnished with fresh cilantro, lime and peanuts, it was the perfect combination of salty sweet, with a little crunch. Can't remember what he ordered, was too busy stuffing my own face. We sat outside (it was summer) and people watching was great. We went on a Tuesday night and it wasn't too busy; we were seated immediately. I went on a Thursday evening and was seated immediately. The service was incredibly prompt and efficient! Ordered the tofu with mushrooms in red curry. The taste and flavours were great, although not as hot as I expected (the menu indicated it was very hot). The curry was served with steamed rice - the portions are HUGE! If you order starters, I think one main course dish should easily suffice two persons. All in all, a good place with tasty food and efficient service. read more

our dinner was fine. the restaurant was almost full when we arrived but luckily we got a table near the entrance. Lots of thai dishes variaties; poultry, meat, seafood and also vegetarian. We tried thai coconut soup with vegies & tofu; it was so yummy especially when wind was blowing hard that night. Then for main we had 2 dishes of fish with vegies & the other was fish with some sort of coconut milk. that one was quite greassy though still taste good. Erawan came highly recommended by our bnb hosts. We arrived around 2030 and the place was packed! We came up to the host whom provided us the last table in the house even without a reservation. We got the Indian style yellow curry and vegetarian pad thai. The flavors of both dishes were top knotch. The curry of course came with white rice. The pad thai was offered with either chicken or as vegetarian which means it automatically comes with fried tofu. Key tip: pad thai doesn't come as spicy, but you can ask for chili flakes on the side to add. Our bill came to about €42 for the two dishes, 2 bottles of Singha beer, and a bottle of water to share. The ladies at the counter were also very friendly and warm. It was a great experience for us having stopped by this restaurant during our Eurotrip. Coming from Pacific NW in the US, we are spoiled with the amount of amazing Thai and other Asian restaurants around us so it was quite a treat to have Thai food just as good here in Haarlem! read more

So I made a reservation a couple of days in advance and we were finally able to try out the Thai food. We are from Seattle, Washington, so we are used to amazing Thai food. This place did not disappoint. Great atmosphere and friendly staff (even though we speak no Dutch). We had the chicken Pad Thai and it was enough for 2 to share. Definitely would recommend to anyone who loves good Thai food, or who has never tried before! read more

A remarkable place in every way. Being from the west coast of the U.S. We get plenty of top notch Asian cooking, but being on vacation in Europe and getting Thai food this good? Amazing I tell ya! The service, the menu, and a dark, yet inviting environment all go together to make a great experience. There's a tiny bar where locals wait for their take out, and we were able to observe the interaction with the Erawan folks and their clients. Every exchange was as if a family member you dearly love had just dropped in. What a great final meal, and overall experience this place was. When you're finished with your meal, an Erawan employee walks you to the door, and it feels just as natural as it can be. Hip, hip, hooray for Erawan! read more

Decent Thai for Europe and friendly service. Priced we're quite a bit more than in expected at 12-20 euros per plate but you could feed 2 people off one dish if you weren't ravenous. The Phad Thai was decent and fresh and the green curry had a nice flavor. read more
