You never would have thought he was a student... I've had hundreds of massages... and this "student" was in the top echelon of massage therapists. Spot on timing, techniques (especially the stretching .. some new to me and utterly fantastic), and a great listener as to what I needed. Thank you, Matt. Now .. Berkana. I know this facility is top-top-top notch for education and training of massage, and advanced massage. The vibe, the air, the space .. instant relaxation. You forget the worries of the world. I escaped so many things when I walked through the doors. Professional, yet sensitive, and I'm lying here on my couch (5 hours later) still feeling like a wet, happy noodle! I leave feeling thoroughly worked over and alive. The next morning is even better when I wake up feeling refreshed and unkinked. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The students ask about my expectations and special needs, then are attentive to my comfort and the quality of the massage throughout. You have to activate the account again and cancel with 30 days notice to avoid being charged an additional $120 or more depending on your membership level. In addition, they make it difficult to cancel. You have to request a membership cancellation form and then send it back to them either via email or in person to officially cancel. This is obviously meant to be a barrier to canceling. When I spoke to the GM asking if she could explain their policy that only active members can cancel, all I was told is that it is corporate policy. I asked again if she could explain WHY this is corporate policy and she told me she had and that "I wasn't accepting her explanation" and proceeded to say "I'm sorry about the confusion or whatever this is." These are direct quotes. If customer service was better and if their corporate policies weren't designed to scam clients out of additional money when wanting to cancel, I would recommend them. The facilities are lovely and they have great massage therapists. It's really too bad. Do not spend your money here.

On top of that, a previous PT session with another person (not Matt) had been a little too rough -- something we didn't realize at the time -- and it made everything worse. The pain spread down my spine and into my ribcage until I couldn't sleep, couldn't move without crying, and couldn't even take a full breath. I was at the point of desperation. From the very beginning, Matt showed extraordinary care. He offered to extend my appointment by an additional half hour, even though he could have easily taken a lunch break. That simple gesture told me everything about his dedication to helping his patients. He didn't just place needles and walk away -- he began with skilled acupressure, using his hands to release and reset tension before transitioning into acupuncture. His approach was thorough, thoughtful, and clearly based on deep knowledge of the body. What impressed me even more was how detailed and holistic he was in his intake. He took careful notes, asked questions that went beyond surface-level pain, and even checked in about possible emotional factors. That meant a lot to me, because in my own work I know how often emotional pain manifests physically. To have a practitioner who not only recognizes that but makes space for it was truly refreshing and healing in itself. And then -- the results. By the end of the session, I could breathe again. For the first time in days, I felt my ribcage expand without pain. He also taped me with strong KT tape to support my healing in the days that followed, and each day I continued to improve. The shift was immediate, but it also lasted, which says everything about the effectiveness of his skill. Matt is not only kind and compassionate, but he has the kind of presence and bedside manner you'd hope for in the very best doctors. He's incredibly well-educated and generous with his knowledge, happily answering every question I had about his work and his field. You can feel his passion for this medicine in every word and every touch. I cannot recommend Matt highly enough. If you are in pain -- whether physical, emotional, or both -- give yourself the gift of working with him. He is deeply talented at what he does, and I sincerely hope he continues this work forever.
