We are patients of Dr. Grifo and couldn't have had a better experience and are sooo thankful for…read morehis expertise. We had several failed attempts to have a child in the state we live in. After 4 unsuccessful IVFs with unexplained infertility, we were dropped by insurance who claimed our chances of having a baby were under 5%. We didnt give up, but a few months later, our in-state fertility clinic dropped us after the 5th IVF because they couldn't figure out what was wrong. We decided to travel to New York and try NYU because they have one of the highest success rates in the world....and I now know why. We went in for our first visit with Dr. Grifo and, even though I had an incredibly large history file for him to review, he knew exactly what to try from day 1....this is especially impressive since everyone else had no idea how to proceed. Dr. Grifo is unbelievably brilliant, he gave us great advice along the way, he addressed all our questions and concerns, and their clinic is state-of-the-art in technical advancements. After learning a lot through our 6th IVF, we did another 2 IVFs with successful results. We are now expecting a baby soon and couldn't say enough positive things about NYU and specifically Dr. Grifo. To anyone considering using NYU, keep in mind that the NYU team isn't there for emotional support...they deal with facts and are there to help give you the highest probability of having a baby. Our first clinic was definitely giving more emotional type support to their clients, but that got us no where in the end. NYU is the best at what they do. When you go to the best of the best, you DO get different results. Let them do what they do best...help give you the greatest gift of life. Thank you to the entire NYU team for not giving up on us when everyone else did! We are very thankful.

I had my first cycle out of the two covered by insurance done at another practice, which proved to…read morebe a waste of time and money. Disappointed in those results, I researched other practices and doctors in NYC to try to have better results for my last cycle covered by insurance. Based on my extensive research, I learned that Dr. Grifo is one of the most prominent IVF experts in the country and that he has had personal experience with IVF in his own family. I am happy to say that I had a good experience with Dr. Grifo at NYU and much better results than at another clinic (which I also reviewed). One of the most important things to look for is that the doctor studies your charts after each test and adjusts the medication and protocol accordingly to maximize your chances for a positive outcome. Dr. Grifo does exactly that. He seems to know exactly what to do in more difficult situations like mine where the body doesn't react to the medicine quickly. Other clinics often make you follow a generic protocol and shrug when you don't get results even though they should know that every body reacts differently to the medicine. In the end, I had much better results than the first time at another clinic due to the above attention to detail and correct adjustments to the meds made along the way.The only issue I encountered with my experience was in regards to NYU's and specifically the anesthesiology department's billing practices. They require payment up front even when your services are fully covered by insurance. In my case, they charged me their cash rate and it took me 4 months and hours of my time to get them to refund the overcharge (the difference between the cash rate and the insurance-negotiated rate that I should have paid).

Years ago I posted a review that was deleted when I closed down my Yelp account. But I'd like to…read morepost again, for the record. Every once in a while I would search the internet to see if legal action had been taken against Wind, and I would check the reviews here. Today I learned Dr Wind is dead, and there's a glowing tribute to him online on some Yale-related website. I'd like to write this for reasons of balance on behalf of patients he hurt. I was one of the patients who Dr Wind took advantage of during a routine gyn exam. I was in my mid-20s. I had waited maybe 1.5 hours in the waiting room before the pre-exam chat in Dr Wind's office. During our little chat, Wind asked me what I was doing for birth control, and I said I was using condoms. He then said accusingly, "and how does your boyfriend feel about that?" I know now that was a kind of test. I said nothing in response to this, because I wasn't used to speaking up to authority figures at that time. During the actual exam, Wind probed rectally out of nowhere--something I have NEVER experienced before and never experienced since in a gyn exam setting. He gave no warning and did not explain what he was doing. My body produced copious fluids to counter this, and Wind's assistant instructed me to use the restroom immediately following the exam to clean up. I have NEVER had to use a restroom following an annual gyn exam to clean up personal fluids. I felt totally violated and out of my body (aka dissociated) following the appointment to the point where I wasn't sure if I could go back to my office job that afternoon. This event was semi-traumatic and shaped all kinds of future life events and decisions on conscious and subconscious levels. Trust of drs, trust of men, trust of my ability to set boundaries, attitude toward my body, attitude toward intimacy, attitude toward self-worth, you name it. I'm so sorry for anyone else who had horrible experiences with this guy. You're not alone. I hope you can heal a little more knowing he is gone.

Several years ago at the beginning of my first pregnancy, I went to see Dr. Richard Wind because a…read morecolleague recommended him. I didn't know what to expect since I had never been to a prenatal visit before. But something happened that I've questioned since, and now that I know what normal prenatal visits entail, it has continued to bother me for the past decade. While I was in the exam room sitting on the exam table, Dr. Wind came up to me, cupped the underside of my breasts and bounced them. No warning, reason or explanation given. I thought it was strange. And it turns out it is. Never has a doctor done this to me since. I've had plenty of breast exams, so that's not the issue. This was not a breast exam, and I have no idea what the purpose of it was other than him copping a feel because my bare breasts were right there, and he could. The other interesting thing I've seen written in reviews about Dr. Wind is that he doesn't explain what he's doing during gynecological exams, and worse still, he has given unexpected rectal exams to several of his patients with no warning. Check his Zoc Doc reviews. This did not happen to me, thankfully. But I can tell you that the only time I've received a rectal exam is when I've gone to the proctologist, and I've been going to different gynecologists since I was 16. I'm not opposed to gynecologists giving rectal exams, as I'm sure some doctors find it to be an important part of their exam, but they should at minimum inform you that they're going to do it before doing it. Or here's a thought, ask for their patient's consent prior to giving a rectal exam. At this point in my life, I expect any gynecologists to inform me of what they're going to do before they begin their exam and talk me through what they are doing to my vagina while they're doing it. When you have a doctor examining you without a clear view of what they're doing, it's important that they explain what is going on. Seems pretty standard. Otherwise, odds are you will feel unpleasantly surprised at the least, and very likely uncomfortable and even violated. Anyway, Dr. Wind literally told me that if I wanted a natural birth, I should go to the park to do it. I found that pretty dismissive and unprofessional. So I took his advice and opted for the park instead of going back to him for further groping. Hopefully he's retired by now since it's taken me years to write this review.
