We've been at nitro a long time. Our older one did nitro 1 & 2 which was many years getting to the finish. Then covid hit and we took a break. We had private sessions the summer before we came back and tested. Our son got into silver right away. He has been on the level for 2 years now so I'm hoping he will advance sometime. His coach quit earlier this year so we are re-establishing with the new coach. There aren't very many competitive swim schools in austin and we like the convenience of Nitro CP. our coaches for intro are really good too. read more

Updated 11/23/2025- The facility manager, Robert, approached us the very same day. He was super nice and genuinely wanted to understand the situation. We explained the concerns and the reasons for frustration. He offered a free assessment session the next week. The assessment session was very thorough. The coach, Michael, was very personable and informative. Robert tapped to Michael afterwards and placed my daughter in properly assessed level. He talked again at length to explain how the school works, who to talk to for information and how to approach him for any concerns. I'm very impressed for the level of care and customer oriented approach. I feel strongly about their commitment to focus on children learning and getting them ready for the swimming skills as fast as possible. I highly recommend this school. I'd recommend to any new parent to approach Robert for any issues. He's very genuine and friendly person. read more

i just waist my money and time for 3 years They sign out my kids from nitro swim team and nitro 2 classes because of the google review After I update my review on Google after 3 years of my first review for Nitro which was five star. I got 2 calls from Robert that he said he need to talk to me before my son's next class about my review and after a call him back, he signed out my kids from Nitro because of the review and also they mention it in the voicemail too. I hope Nitro learns to treat families with respect and professionalism, and to take feedback as an opportunity to improve instead of silencing it. Updated - September 2025 I wanted to share my experience so others are aware. my kid has been in Nitro, Station 8, for almost 45 weeks. That means about 45 sessions, and we've spent roughly $1,100 just for him to learn the butterfly. Something feels off here. Maybe we're being overcharged, or perhaps the teaching method has a problem. He is generally a quick learner, but when I ask what the issue is, the instructors only point out small things, like not keeping his feet together. After he fixed that, there has been no further progress, yet he is still stuck in the same station. Added photo when he started butterfly almost one year ago . i just wait for him to graduate from here to go to swim team . ......... I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this swimming facility. The teaching approach is fantastic. However, one minor drawback is the time it takes for kids to progress to higher levels; we often need to request tests from the coaches for them to move up. Terrible program for young kids. I enrolled my 5yo into a YMCA swim one, he passed thatg easily and loved it there. The instructors recommended to enroll him into swim two, but its not offered right now, so I enrolled him into nitro one swim lessons at this location. The heavy structure and hyper focus didn't fit well with my 5 year old. Their structure is prolly better suited for older kids, as my 5 year old just wants to play (and learning is a side effect). We paid the initation fee ($40 1 think) and 1 month of lessons ($119). We went to 3 lessons, and my kid made no progress under the heavy monitoring from the instructions and the unspoken psychological pressure to complete the skill of breath holding, and doing nothing else for 30 mins. after 3 lessons they charged my in full for the next month - (another $119: so $278 all in for 3 lessons) 30 mins is a long time for a 5 year old to keep doing the same thing over and over. We went to 3 lessons of this and they still could not get him to hold his breath underwater. At the Y, he had no problem completing this skill, along with 3 or 4 other ones in the same 30 min sessions, all while not even realizing it because they made it fun. So we determined nitro wasn't a fit for us, I kindly asked for a refund at the desk for the next month's lesson and they had one of their managers call me. At this point there was still 1 lesson left for this month that I've already paid for plus the 4 for next month April, which hasn't started yet. I was fine if they did give me a refund and I was fine if they didn't, but I wanted to ask you know? The manager called me and promptly proceeded to chew me out saying that I knew what I was getting into since I had a 10yo who previously went through the program, and that I signed their agreement - he was on full tilt: like a bad car salesman when you tell them you don't want their car. There was no concession: no we'll refund you 50%, since you haven't even started the lessons that you have paid in full for - or anything like that. They miss the point that its not a good fit, but they're happy to take money and while not providing the value that they agreed to provide, and that the Y had no problems executing on. I told him that I paid for services and those services were not provided - at this point its a full-on fight so I basically let him know that I would l dispute the charges with my bank, for the month of lessons we paid for that haven't even started yet and maybe even for the ones I've already paid for. It was a bad experience for my 5yo and a terrible experience for me as a customer. If you want to develop an olympic class underwater 5yo breath holder, then nitro might work for you. but if you want your kid to enjoy learning to swim, I'd look elsewhere. For the same rate I'll look at hiring a personal coach who meets me at my community pool, even if it costs 2x more, it will be 100x more effective than nitro is for - play based learning. read more

My son has been at Nitro for 1.5 years. There is no communication with the coaches. He is on a Technique and Fitness class. They get these kids in a pool for 45 minutes but I don't really see any direction or coaching happening. These classes are over crowded. It's impossible to even speak to a coach. They do not teach them anything new. Their fees are $230 a year, which is a crazy amount. I have not been impressed at all and have been really frustrated about everything there. read more

Nitro treats their customers like a corporation. They are great at being robotic with spitting out their policies at the front desk and will not allow exceptions or allow you to speak to upper management for any reason. My daughter had a serious illness with doctor documentation, and the front desk will not make exceptions to allow her to make up a class since it was her last "group lesson". We have spent thousands there for over two years and her sibling continues to go there (well for the next month as I just cancelled him as of today). For being in a business that supports children, they have the most unsupportive, heartless policies. Even when families follow their procedures and guidelines. hopefully your child never has to deal with an unforeseeable accident, illness or circumstance, as they will not strive to help you. Note to management, if your policy doesn't support a make up class, refunds are always an option. read more

UPDATE 9/14/2024: Even though we withdrew over the summer, and still paid for the entire year (Sept 2023 - Aug 2024) despite only getting two swim half of the year (see below), Nitro charged us over $400 and registered us for the new year (2024-2025) against specific written instructions. The account they charged had been cancelled due to fraud and we hadn't even given Nitro the new account, yet somehow they managed to post the charge to our new account. They eventually corrected it but this whole experience reminds of trying to quit a gym membership. ~~~~ My rating is based on my experience. If you know what you're getting into, you can have a better experience. Here is what you're getting into if you sign up your kiddo at Nitro (Cedar Park): PROS They start lessons / practice exactly on time. They communicate well (albeit only through email). You will get regular updates from the owner, the front office, and the coaches. Their billing system works flawlessly. You will be charged on time every time. CONS There is no time for transition between lessons / practice. They end and begin at the same minute in time and most lanes are occupied during lesson / practice times. Overpriced - We paid over $2k for one kid to swim 3x/week for the year. Overcrowded - They have up to 4 swimmers in one lane at a time, parking is scarce during lesson / practice times, and there is rarely a seat available in the observation room (the only area with AC). The AC in the observation room "only kinda works." That is a quote from the front office and they are correct. The air is stale in that room, but at least it is a buffer from the strong chemical smell throughout the building. All of their policies are written to insure that Nitro maximizes its revenue, period. Water quality - At least at the Cedar Park location, the water is disgusting. Interestingly, the water at the Bee Cave location is of significantly better quality. Everything operates like a cattle call. There is no concern for the individual swimmer. The building is hot and noisy with an overwhelming chemical smell. If you have asthma or other respiratory issues you will not be able to stay inside the building. This may explain why so many parents sit in their cars in the parking lot. Bathroom / shower room is usually gross and there is no hot water. Theft - Someone stole my kid's gear from the bathroom. Lack of accountability - As many other reviewers have stated, if your kid has any sort of issue, and you voice your concern, you will be met with a dismissive attitude and they will quickly shift the blame to you, the parent. In short, we paid for the entire calendar year but only got to swim half of that time because of recurring medical issues that began after starting at Nitro, and ended when we left Nitro. During that year, we consulted several specialists and their consensus was that the water was the root cause. My kiddo has never had an issue with the water in our home pool, or other public / neighborhood pools. My kiddo is a serious swimmer and crushed every event that we participated in. It's too bad that Nitro only cares about billing. read more

I am very very pleased about our decision to enroll our kids at Nitro in Cedar Park! The instructors make learning to swim fun while making sure that they master a skill before advancing to the next station. I am already seeing some big improvements from my kids after only 1.5 months. I feel confident that they will be great swimmers come summertime. The instructors are all wearing shields in the water which is comforting to me. They are protecting themselves and the kids. The water is kept at a comfortable warm temp! They offer a wide range of class times. We go during the week in the evenings and it's not too busy. I can't speak for the weekends. Teacher ratio for our age groups are 3:1 so the kids get lots of time in the water practicing. I highly recommend this place!! read more

Just wanted to give a huge thank you to Nitro and specifically to Robert Weiss for taking the extra steps to ensure my daughter was comfortable in the pool. She has some difficulty with sensory processing and can't stand water in her ears, among many other sensations. Robert and the office staff made several suggestions as to how to mediate that issue and they have helped immensely. Robert also reached out several times via email and phone call to discuss strategies to help and was so kind in listening to my concerns. He even did a private lesson with her to help build her confidence back up after some regression in her swim skills. I've been taking my son here since December 2018. He's definitely improved his swimming in general. They work on form and technique, which you can see the difference in just a few lessons. Reading the other reviews, I agree that it gets crowded during the weekends, but it's really the only time I have to take my son to classes. During the week it's extremely hard especially because it's a little farther from our house. A few reasons I don't give 5 stars are: 1. Changing rooms for my case (mom with son) are just not enough. And people really take a long time there. So for a 30 min lesson, waiting another 30mins to change it's hard when your child is wet and getting cold. 2. The inability to make up classes or get refunds. You need to sign up for the whole month and if there is an emergency, trip, sickness, they only give you the option to get another complimentary class, however, you need to call the morning you can make up the time to see if there are any spots available. It's a very restrictive policy. Especially for parents that have a full schedule like me. Overall, I'm pleased with the results, hence I continue taking my son here. In comparison to other places that offer the same, I feel that nitro exceeds my expectations. The fact that it gets so crowded still if people are not completely happy with the policies, it just shows that their program works and a lot of parents see results. Very unfriendly policy when it come to using the token for makeup classes. 1. Token valid only for 30 days. 2. Can't go to the office while your kid is swimming and schedule a makeup class. It can only be done online. 3. Website allows you to only schedule make up classes for today or the day after. Expectation is for you to keep checking everyday as if parents have no other things to do. Why make things difficult if not impossible? In short make class setup is such that it becomes very difficult to use the token. Also, every swim lesson there is a different instructor. This is the only place I have seen this happen. Imagine your child goes to school and the English/Math/Science teacher changes every week. How difficult is that for both the teacher and the student. My request to management is to revisit these policies and make it customer friendly. read more

Over priced, over crowded and under staffed. Owner concerned more with making money than the safety of his swimmers. Lessons are a cattle call with little to no personal touches. Coaches don't recognize swimmers, or know how to pronounce names. Waited 2 months for a space to come available in the N2 class. We received email and told we have 24 hours to secure our waitlist spot- but no one would answer the phone during business hours. Finally on day 3 someone answered the phone. Pricing is about $25 per lesson, billed monthly for number of lessons/ weeks that month. This equals about $1 per minute for the lesson. The classes have 4-5 kids to one instructor. There are 5-7 CLASSES (30-35 people; including "coaches" ) in the pool at any given 30m "lesson". The kids NEVER have the same coach from lesson to lesson. There isn't consistency for the kids to form rapport with the coaches. ZERO clear communication of what is needed to practice outside of the lesson. Coaches are "too busy, need to move on to the next class" You are expected to stand "on deck" and wait for someone to come to you. The "fishbowl" where you can wait / observe it is small and crowded. As to be expected, the pool area is humid, hot and LOUD. Not to mention COVID issues to think about. We elect to sit outside in our car and wait. Main concern: My son (12 yrs) had just started his weekly lesson, and started to feel bad, and excused himself to the restroom. 10min AFTER his lesson was to END, he still had not exited the building. Went into the building to look for him, found him VERY ILL in the boys restroom. He had been in the restroom ill for over 30min. Couldn't find a single person (student / child/ adult) that could tell me a anything about what happened, or what was going on. Swim coach had moved on to the next class, and not available. "Deck manager" told me she would inquire and get back with me. I never heard from the school / coach / staff. The swim coach DID NOT NOTICE he did NOT return from the restroom. When we dropped the class online, we noted our concerns. The owner called us to inquire about "why" we were so dissatisfied. I explained the entire situation to him. His response was: That sometimes kids leave the lesson and never come back; and the coaches aren't REQUIRED to keep track of "older" swimmers. I was personally admonished for not being in the building to watch him. What? Am I not paying YOU to watch / teach/ keep my child safe? Instead of apologizing, acting concerned - the owner was placing BLAME and pointing fingers. When I told him the swim coach SHOULD have noticed that my son had not returned from the restroom, and notified the "deck manager" and someone should have checked on him, and assisted him- I was told "Obviously we aren't a good fit for you ". Zero accountability. This is a HUGE SAFETY issue. What if my child was passed out in the restroom? Bleeding? Immobilized? They LOST my child, and don't care. They want to blame me! To make matters even more laughable: The accounting office called me to tell me I would need to make an additional full months payment ; and that it would be fully "credited" to my account for future use. WTF? Are they insane? They are lucky I'm not bringing a lawsuit for negligence against them. I wouldn't trust them to keep track of a common cold much less a kid. read more

I've been taking my 7yo son to NS for a month now and so far I've seen tremendous improvement on his swimming. From the very first day the registration desk was very courteous and helpful. We take the afternoon classes twice a week and all of the instructors have been very professional, encouraging, cheerful and what I like the most very demanding to perfect his technique. My kid is very competitive and takes every direction at heart. He's extremely happy and can't wait to make a team. A special thank you to Robert! You've been extremely helpful and you make it easy to feel like "at home" for us that've just started. You're expertise in swimming and your customer service are top notch! I'm really pleased with Nitro. My daughter has done great here and has become a very strong swimmer. Here's the scoop: 1. The swim lessons are great. If I was only rating the lessons, I would give them 5 stars hands down. They are especially awesome if you can go in the mornings because it is far less crowded. 2. The instructors are good with the kids and the kids all seem happy. 3. The lessons cover a variety of aspects and the kids become very confident swimmers. In fact my kid already swims better than I do! 4. The results are very clear in your kid's swimming skills. You can see them become comfortable and strong in the water very quickly. The downside: 1. The afternoon classes are extremely crowded. We started my daughter in lessons before she started kindergarten. We were able to go in the mornings and it was fantastic. The classes were small and the kids had a lot of room to move around and really practice in the pool. We are in the afternoon class now and it is just jammed packed. All 10 (actually more if you count the substations like 9a. and 9b., etc] stations seem to have at least 3 kids in them and there's just not a lot of room, especially when kids are having to swim the long way down the pool. 2. This is a big one and a lot of people before me have mentioned it before, so sorry to sound like a broken record. It's the missed class policy. Nitro will not let you make up a missed class at all. We had a vacation planned months in advance. I asked them about it 3 months ahead of time and they say there are absolutely no make ups, even with a crazy amount of notice. They will not let you make up a class for illnesses either. Kids get sick, it just happens, but it's a hard no on that as well. They always tell you it's too hard to schedule make ups. It's incredibly frustrating when you lose out on almost $20 a lesson even when you can give notice months in advance. So Nitro has the best swim lessons around for sure. They are also very strict in their policies of missed classes. You make the decision on if it's worth it or not for you. read more

(I did the math, 1/3 of their reviews are 3 stars or less.. thats a pretty lousy success ratio, if you ask me) I had an emergency pop-up 5 hours before my class, so called in to give notice and to reschedule a make-up class... nope, have to give 12 hours... which is fine, but if I don't have 12 hours notice myself, how can I do that? no interest in working with me or giving me my money's worth... very poor experience for me (I'm sure its good for them)... on top of that, the ratio of instructors to students seems like it can be 8-1, and when you only have 30 minutes in the pool, how much attention can you really get in that time? sorry to say, this was not the experience they promise you when they're wooing you to sign on the dotted line... they very easily could have said, "we'll work with you" -- but they didn't.. my policy is to do business with people the way I would do business.. since I wouldn't treat my customers in this inflexible, indifferent, take-it-or-leave-it manner, I can't allow myself to be treated this way.. anytime a business says, "its in the paperwork you signed", (as opposed to trying to work with you), thats a clue... you know you're in for a bumpy ride.. Our kids have been swimming with nitro for ~ five years. With four kids we've had a lot of experience with their swim school and swim team. We're regularly impressed with the quality of coaches. It's a big program but they are responsive to each kids needs, strengths and struggles. As a parent, I'm appreciative of their focus to prioritize the swimmers' enjoyment of swimming along with being one of the state's top programs. The staff is amazing and from Day 1, they made us feel welcome, and at ease in a new environment. Being our first-ever swimming pool experience, my kid was a little nervous in the first few sessions, but the instructors did a great job making the class fun, interactive and relaxing! You can immediately tell that the instructors are great at what they do, they are extremely professional, knowledgeable, friendly and sweet with the little ones. They are always attentive and cautious, making you feel safe and at ease throughout the session. As we progressed and transitioned to other classes, we have had the opportunity to work with multiple instructors and each one of them have been awesome, especially Bonnie, Brelyn, Katelyn, and Lilly. As far as the facility; it is excellent and the classes are fairly-priced. The pool is always impeccable as well as the restrooms, dressing rooms etc. Parking is also never an issue, even at the busiest of times. All in all, we have really enjoyed our time at Nitro Swim and couldn't say enough good things about them. I would definitely recommend it to anyone! read more

My son decided he wanted to be on a swim team, so we found Nitro Swim and decided to give it a go. I LOVE this place and so does my son. They are so efficient and truly care about making sure your kid progresses. Our favorite is Coach Mike. There are 2 parts to Nitro, lessons and swim team. I will attempt to review both as I have had children go through the lessons program as well as currently have a child on the year round swim team. Before going into the review I will say the owner Mike is a great guy and does a good job of juggling a successful business and caring for as many kids as possible. And when I say care I mean making them better individuals in life, not just better swimmers. Now on to the review. Lessons: I have put 3 children through lessons and was happy with the program. I believe each child somewhat learns at their own pace and there is a time and maturity when they are actually ready to learn to start swimming. If you have a child that is not really ready, it will take them a long time to progress through the stations. This is going to be true no matter where you take them whether it is Emler or private lessons. They typically have 1-3 children per instructor which is a good ratio compared to the rec center or YMCA. Overall I think this is a great environment for your children to learn to swim or at least learn water safety. Swim team: Nitro has quickly built themselves into a state and national powerhouse. They have hired excellent coaches and really built a positive, winning, competitive attitude amongst many of the kids that swim there. Again like anything in life, the results depend on what the swimmer puts into practice. There is not a magic formula for success, but if your child has the drive to succeed, they have the coaches to match. Nitro is probably one of the largest teams in Texas so it is definitely not for everyone. If you prefer a smaller environment, there are definitely other options around town. You will find that Nitro is broken into groups of 30-40 swimmers though which is about the same coach to swimmer ratio you are going to find at most smaller teams as well. read more

My daughter was taken to urgent care for an ear infection the night before her swim lesson. I called in the morning to inform the front desk and was told I will be forfeiting my class. I am tired of the rude responses and request to fill this form out or that form out. I don't pay someone to fill out forms for their business process. This place used to be good, staffs are friendly and care about teaching. But since opening again after covid, they ran into issue with short staff/coach. One lesson before for 1 coach is 4 kids, now repeatedly 7 kids-1 coach. On the other hand, they have more opening spaces for lessons, get more students knowing that they don't have enough coach to teach. Worst thing now is they don't let you do makeup lesson and cannot request any makeup tokens for ANY reasons. I registered my 37 month old (I don't refer to his age in months, but in Nitro land it matters) for Parent/Tot 2 classes and was called and told he needed to change to Nitro I because he's 3. Uh okay. I was not really comfortable, knowing my son would be uncomfortable, but there weren't any other options. First lesson was today, I knew he was getting upset sitting there waiting and was refusing to get in the pool, but then the deck teacher handed him in and he started screaming and screaming and screaming. He was brought over to the edge, climbed out and that was the end. None of the instructors tried to get him back in the pool. No one acknowledged us again. We've withdrawn from lessons, there are no refunds (even on the additional money they charged us for moving in Nitro I - that we didn't want to be in in the first place). I would recommend taking your kids elsewhere. read more

We've been part of the Nitro Family for about four years now. Reading many of these reviews I'm wondering if I've been going to a different Nitro! In four years I've interacted with the front desk staff hundreds of times..they have always been courteous and helpful..Admin staff in the office the same. Coaches..what can I say...some of the best in a Texas and actually some of the best in the country. Yes it's competitive...coming from the Midwest I'll tell you Texas Swimming overall is extremely competitive.. great facilities, wonderful staff..and a very accessible "hands on" head coach and owner. Yea, some people have off days..it happens and when you have 700 plus kids marching through every day and schedule changes can be a challenge..that said...my daughter would disown me if I took her anywhere other than Nitro. After four years it's a "Family". Highly recommended for all swim levels. read more

You couldn't pay me enough to have my wife go back to that place. The instructor was very good and the only thing positive about the whole experience. The front desk people and office manager are rude, inconsiderate and don't care about any problems reported to them. When my wife was at her lesson I was unable to keep my attention on what was happening due to five unsupervised children (their father was taking a class) running back and forth and screaming in the observation room. When I reported it to the front desk the person she simply smiled, shrugged and stared at me. When I told the office manager, I got the same response. My wife wanted to switch to private lessons and her instructor not only agreed, but had an opening in her schedule. When we tried to make the switch, we were told that the only way we could do private lessons was to get in line and wait for them to contact us. Over four months later we are still waiting. When we decided to leave, we were told that we couldn't simply leave. We had to go to the end of the next month because our decision was made after some arbitrary date (we decided on the 14th of the month). They said they would charge our credit card even though we had told them not to. I had to threaten to take them to court and charge them with criminal charges if they attempted to charge our card. This place is only in it for the almighty dollar and doesn't care about its customers I SUGGEST YOU STAY FAR, FAR AWAY. read more

The likes: My son is learning to swim and having fun, he really enjoys his classes and teachers. He had taken swimming at the Y and with the City before and it never "clicked" until he joined Nitro. The dislikes: Too crowded, not enough time to get feedback from teachers as the groups are brought in and out one right after the other. The parking lot is always full. Only one family bathroom. Mom with boys or dad's with girls keep in mind that if your kids are older than a certain age (3 maybe) they will need to go into the bathrooms to change, shower, use the toilet) by themselves as there is only 1 family bathroom and because of the crowded facilities is always busy. Why after the bathroom remodel they still left only 1 family bathroom I do not know. Not so clean: I think the general cleanliness of the bathrooms and floors could be improved. Summary: to pricey for the type of facility but my son likes his classes and he is learning so we deal with the other issues as best we can. read more

Too loud. Too competitive. Parents must sit so far away from the pool that they cannot hear or sometimes see the kids. One locker room for each gender which is crowded and not conducive for small children. Staff is ok - not as friendly as Emler, which is where we go now and love it! Teachers - all business and no fun - we are talking about kids here people so you need to make it fun or else you will lose their attention and respect. All in all - very disappointing.
