I'm presented with a conundrum when it comes to the Nitelink...on the one hand, it's the best (and most fun!) way home if you're out late in town. On the other hand, it's made us the laughing stock of Europe (no late public transport during the week at all?!) What to do, what to do? Middle of the road (if you'll excuse the pun!) apparently.
I love the Nitelink. I even kind of miss it since I've moved into town and now have no real use for it. Stumbling on (yes, I have fallen UP the stairs on a stationary 7, smashing my nicked Guinness pint glasses at the same time...divine retribution or something I guess) at 4 in the morning to a sensory barrage of sounds, sights and smells...best way to end the night! Go up the back where you're likely to find someone strumming a guitar and leading a general sing-along, at least one person (illegally) smoking, everyone you hung out with when you were around 15, somebody passed out and guaranteed to miss their stop, and a few bemused randomers who are wondering if they've entered the hallucination part of the evening. And even better, the driver won't really do anything just in case the dodgy looking dude down the back kicks off. What's not to like?!!
Dublin's nightlife has definitely suffered since the cutting back of the service - with the only option to get home during the week now the last bus (11.30? It's like they don't WANT us to have fun) or an extortionately priced taxi, weekday partying just isn't what it used to be. Great when it's running...a crying shame it doesn't run enough. read more
