The train operator for the Republic of Ireland with its main hub in Dublin but spokes leading out to much of the Republic. I did not take any of the long distance trains, just commuter hops on the line between Connolly Station and Maynooth (Maigh Nuad in Gaelic). Most of the time, the trains were on time. Smooth running, clean, efficient, with wifi on board. Never completely crowded except the rush hour schedule which is understandable. I did once almost miss a train because it's nearly time to depart but the track is empty. I learned from one of the staff in Connolly Station that the app might indicate one track number (in this case, Track 4) but the displays in the station show a different track number (Track 7). The 17 was a funny bus - it could sometimes be single decker, sometimes double decker, and almost always showed up late or just fully went missing! It was a great bit of fun, standing in the cold, shivering in the sea breeze at Blackrock DART station, waiting to see if the bus would show . . . Even the ancient art of lighting a cigarette couldn't guarantee the arrival of this silver slug (that's the opposite of silver bullet). Anyway, this bus took you places. Usually, uh, places you didn't really need to go, at a pace that even a yummy mummy could out-do, but we loved it, cherished it, and will honour its memory by standing wistfully for hours at its previous stops, like the good old days!

I made a purchase at the stations kiosk and carelessly left my phone on the counter as I picked up my purchase. A few minutes later as I sat on the platform (still unaware I was missing my phone) this young lady, whom I recognised from the kiosk, approached me confirming I had just made a purchase. "I think you left your phone on the counter behind you". As she handed it over to me I was still unaware I was missing it and thanked her. She then rushed back to her kiosk realising it was unattended. I would like to applaud her for honesty and swift action in locating me as we could quite easily have been anywhere on the station or possibly already on our train. She is a credit to her upbringing and to her employers. I wish her well in her future and hope I get the opportunity to remind her of the thoughtful act that day. She can be very proud of herself. Tara Street Dart station has been jazzed up recently with new turn-styles that are built…read morepractically on the platform so you don't have a hope if you were thinking of DARTing and dashing! Like at all city centre stations, security has been tightened mightily in the past few years so ticketless chancers beware! Although technically on the South-side, I always jump off at Tara when I'm heading to the North-side for some shopping. There's some dispute among my acquaintances over whether Connolly or Tara Street is actually closer to the O'Connell Street/Henry Street area (ok, dispute is probably a bit strong of a word for it!). I go with Tara every time but really it's much of a muchness. The station itself has well-stocked newsagents downstairs to meet the newspaper and coffee demands of busy commuters. Be a bit careful in this area if you're running for one of the later DARTs - it gets a little bit lonely by dark.

By far the easiest City Centre station to navigate, Tara Street station is the clean, well lit sort…read moreof mid-city stop that keeps travellers confident. While its single pub has been shuttered a good long while, there is a rather well-appointed news stand just outside of the wide bank of turnstiles. For tickets and information that (ok, is a little grudging at 7am on a Wednesday) can get you where you need to go anywhere along the DART line, queue up (but be assertive as the lines can get a little blurry and anyone can jump ahead) and ask at the booths just to your right as you enter. Also, here's a bonus for regular commuters at Tara street: much like its larger brother Connolly, this station is seen as a key area to target young urban professionals -several times a year companies will stake out the front of the station to offer free samples and give-aways. Keep than in mind next time you're thinking of whether to take the bus or DART!

Being able to hop on and off the bus made it easy and convenient to see different parts of Dublin while also learning about the city along the way. The tour took us to many interesting places including the Irish Whiskey Museum, distilleries, the Guinness Storehouse, the train station, the zoo, and the beautiful park areas throughout the city. We also added the Howth seaside cliff tour, which ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. The coastal views and scenery were absolutely breathtaking. Overall, the entire experience was fun, informative, adventurous, and full of opportunities to explore. We got to see so much in a short amount of time without feeling rushed. Dublin is such a gorgeous city with so much history and charm, and this tour package made it easy to experience all of it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Dublin for the first time.

You can hop on and off at any of the stops, so we did this a few times so experienced a few different drivers. There are 2 buses, one is the live commentary, the other is multilingual. The live commentary is in English. We went on the live commentary, and it is a bit of a comedy sketch to boot. One driver was a bit much, and there was a point where you did think, just be quiet for one minute!! But, in the main, very informative, funny and a great way of just seeing all the places. I think if you do this first, when you get to Dublin, you can then decide what you want to go and visit and then plan from there, and also have some understanding of where is it and how to get there. Most of the sites that we went to were very easy to get around. I enjoyed the commentary on the buses, both pre-recorded and live. The bus drivers were knowledgeable and funny! We also did the Ghost bus tour. They were very accommodating. We missed our 7 PM time to get on because our cab didn't get us there on time. But we were able to get onto the 9 PM tour. These people were also very accommodating while I was using a folding wheelchair this night. This tour was scary and funny too. Our hostess Susan was the best!
