The commuter trains may be showing their age, but they are still a vital part of Dublin's transportation system. In a lot of ways they are more utilitarian than their newer brethren. This stations isn't pretty, but it handles its commuter traffic very well.
Unfortunately, the station is only a stone's throw from Croke Park and was clearly not built with GAA crowds in mind. Extra trains are added after games, but the station just cannot move such a tremendous number of people. The result is a dangerously dense crowd on the stairwell and the platform, with thousands of people pushing from behind. It is a wonder that the crowd doesn't surge like lemmings into the tracks. read more
