Saturday around 3pm stopped in for a quick shot with a couple of friends headed down to union square. I let the bartender know that we have two others coming who will be getting the same type of mixed shot as well, hoping to make it a bit easier for him. He makes two shots and pours it into 4 glasses and looks at me like I should be okay with this and I pull out my card and say "charge whatever you want, i'm going to go say hi to my friends" thinking he'd only charge me for two shots. I come back in to the check on-top of our shot glasses (gross and unsanitary as I can regretfully assume they don't wipe those down) and I pay the roughly $40 check with a $5 tip, because I did not assume he fixed anything and charged me for 4 shots only after making enough mix for 2. Here comes the most uncomfortable part! He then calls me out on my $5 tip after his awful mixing and pouring in the first place (pours about 1/4 of the shots out on the bar top, he was definitely drunk) by saying "i fixed them for you, and that's how your going to tip me?" Without noticing, he had "fixed" our shots and pressed me about a 10% tip after a bullsh*t pour. I kindly fixed it to 18% thereafter, you're welcome! Being a neighbor of the bar, I will stop in here and there for a quick drink before my night. I usually like to make conversation with the bartenders because they are all very friendly. Except, upon asking the gentleman behind the bar in this situation (we shook hands but i do not remember his name) if he knew the other bartender who works there. He brings up that they are "brothers" which throws me off because the other gentleman doesn't have an accent. He explains their step brothers and sharply asks me if I want a "whole f*cking family tree story" and "where are you from? you look like your asian with your slitty eyes"... I'll let that speak for itself. We left. Wrong city for bigotry. Go work at a gym and be miserable, not somewhere people go to enjoy themselves. Clown! read more

I must have passed this place at least a hundred times before noticing it existed. We had the pleasure of meeting Pierre, the bartender. We enjoyed his service, meeting a few of the bar regulars there, and adding Nite Cap to my list of places to drop by when I need a drink or a place to find good vibes. Oh sure, there are all sorts of bars in the Tenderloin that run the gamut from trendy, overpriced taverns to complete, fall-off-the-stool dives. Make no mistake this one lands on the latter part of that spectrum. Nothing wrong with that as this back-to-basics corner bar is pretty comfortable considering the neighborhood. If you're in sf, nite cap is one of those local bars you HAVE to check out. Great vibe, really personal service and a pool table. If you really wanna hit local spots, nite cap is your destination. This spot is cute. I never been here until recently and it is legit a night cap. Lol. After all the bar hopping and restaurant jumping stuffing my face with food, came here once then found myself twice just enjoying the vibes of others and chillin. I don't usually remember much when I'm here but a hood vibe since I'm always already one when prior to arriving. Lol there's a juke box for sure and music was cool. Came here on a Saturday to pregame before heading to an event. The bartender, I think her name is Mariya is amazing! I arrived early, per usual, and she made me feel very welcomed. She was very attentive and friendly. My friend finally arrived and we all chit chatted, tried some new concoctions, and met new friends, shot out to THE Michael! Lame to say the least... Bartender was rude and opinionated, pouring one of the last kegs in sf of legendary Anchor steam pale ale, but said "she didn't know this place existed", is kinda asking the chef if he knows his menu, completely failed, I hope that her drinks knowledge was better, but I think she is a margaritas and cosmos only Bartender, I played a song on the jukebox with my own money, to what she had to go around with her few (3) regular customers and make comments about taste , a crowd of people walked in and right out of the place, because they apparently don't know how to check IDs at the bar and don't have someone to check IDs a the door. This happened during Chinese new year, and also the tater tots we got were cold, and horrible, happened a few months ago, but won't forget, thanks Yelp for not removing my comment. People--go see Karl At Nite Cap. Hands-down one of the best experiences I've had in a long time across a bar. He made a genuine connection with me from the jump, made me feel right at home, and then took care of me in thoughtful ways that went way above and beyond. All around me were "well-hydrated" regulars in this neighborhood watering hole. It's a bit of a raucous scene, but the shelf is well curated, the beers fresh, and the service simply extraordinary! Quaint bar around the Tenderloin. Not a bad way to spend a Friday night but pretty empty in the evening. Cool vibe, great music and nice bartender. Good place to meet up with friends, maybe start out your night before hitting up other bars, partying, whatever. Also it's a good place to grab a quick drink after work if you're in the area. They keep the door open so best to go when it's warm or barely chilly out. Cold beer and cold hands aren't ideal here in California. They had sports on the TV, the Cubs eh but I'm from south side Chicago so I'll take it. They were whooping the St. Louis Cardinals last I looked so, good. Highlight was probably the music choices and the random cool leashed dog at the bar, Drake. Sweet, chill and mostly well trained pup that was a fun distraction. Good people not a sketchy group, but bartender is on her own agenda, she told my girlfriend she can't come back because of a lack of tip. A $95 charge left minimum cash to give away for serving drinks. The way my girlfriend was surrounded by workers because she was exiled by the bartender for not meeting her standards on a tip. If any more grown adults stepped up to block my girlfriend who was not in aggressive state, she was confused and didn't understand why the bartender was telling her she wasn't aloud back. I myself noticed a group of males approach her with intentions I could not precieve as friendly or foe. The moment we stood up to walk out the bartender got upset that there was no tip, a $95 charge left us with no money to tip. On our way out the bartender yelled don't come here you're not aloud, as we heard this command we reacted by turning and facing her. She had employees press up on us like we were not acting in a civil matter. The way she spoke and how she disregarded our present at the bar is ridiculous. I have never felt so insulted by an old lady. Her last words were ," You did not tip me, you're not welcome here anymore" I for one take complete insult to the way this manner was handled. Please help me understand why my girlfriend was singles out for not leaving a tip. Last thing I saw was straight disregard and disrespect I will not have this kind of affiliation in the town of San Francisco. read more

I went here with friends last weekend for a quick drink after the Chinese New Year parade. We played a round of pool (loved the pool table!) and I ordered a Blue Moon and shot of fireball for like $11 total! The drinks were super cheap, so this place made for a great dive bar to stop at before the night was over. Most drink specials are a beer and a shot for ~$9-$13, so I recommend this place if you're looking for something cheap to do with your friends on a night out! read more

What can I really say. It's a bar, it's fine. Yes, I do remember the old 'cap' and have been there more times than I can count or remember. It doesn't really matter. Gone is the pool table, and gone is the jukebox. It's a very clean look. I find it a little strange that the bar only seats about 15, but other than that you're stuck with this weird lounge area that seems perpetually vacant. The drink specials are actually sorta cool, like 'trumer and fernet shot' or 'lagunitas and bulleit shot'. Creative. I feel like the demographic is supremely lost on this owner, and it borders on insulting. I know if he could have afforded this closer to the cable car, this 'new Nitecap' wouldn't exist. I met some coworkers after work one time before I went to a show at the boom boom and it was a nice pregame spot. The bartender at the time was super nice and attentive and really familiar with her bar so extra for that. read more

Nite Cap Bar a great place to throw a good party for 20-40 people. It's really cozy and it has a good energy. I recently through a surprise brthday party for my girlfriend. Dave, the owner, was really accommodating. I was able to book the space on a Friday night during holiday party season, bring my own decorations, food and cake, and 30-40 friends showed up with no drink minimum. They through the cover over the pool table and we had an awesome party. They even had a great DJ and drink specials. Eleanor, the bartender, was awesome. I highly recommend this for a party or event. It's always been a great local spot. I love coming here to watch a Warriors game. It's never empty and it's never overcrowded. Always good people. read more

It was a perfect little escape from a long day while killing time until other plans. It is as small but spacious, the bartender was attentive and quick to get my order. I just hopped in for a beer and was working a bit, and the bartender checked on me a few times for another beer, but kept it to a minimum to not interrupt me working. After walking for what felt like HOURS we stumbled across Night Cap to order a few beers. When we walked in to the small corner bar, there was a juke box playing a multitude a songs and we sat down at the bar. Delia, our bar tender, poured us our beers and made some small talk. After learning it was our friend's birthday she gave us some restaurant and bar suggestions to carry out our evening. As it goes, we decided we wanted to take a shot and requested our go-to... rumplemintz. They did not have any rumplemintz but Delia searched high and low for something to satisfy our peppermint cravings. After saying "no thank you" to some peppermint schnapps, she offered up a concoction of her own to celebrate our friends birthday. It was delicious!
