Helpful and just pleasant. AND not flooded with 30 pages of paperwork so many places have you fill out. off topic for a minute - BUT WHY CAN'T IT BE SHARED SO YOU ARE NOT CONTINUALLY FILLING OUT THE SAME THINGS OVER AND OVER AND OVER....at any rate. I did not have a long wait...very impressive. The young lady that administered all the pretests before seeing Dr. Hefner was so great. She explained everything being done and why. Took time to talk to me and get everything down. Again, not a long wait for the doctor. HE WAS SO NICE. Came in, shook my hand and proceeded to cover everything I could even image for an exam. Because I am diabetic, over 65, and had cataract surgery a year ago, he covered a lot with me. Never felt rushed or pressured to hurry through. I have had a LOT of appointments with eye doctors since I stared with bad eyes in 4th grade....but I have to say this was by far the best experience with an office all the way around. My grandson and daughter will definitively use this office. The clinic as a whole is clearly disorganized... from scheduling, to rooms, to overall demeanor. The dr has no bedside manner. He didn't even introduce himself the first time he came in the room. He barely looked at or addresses the reason I was there and was mainly concerned about how contagious pink eye was and told me not to touch anything. I had an eye injury caused by my dog scratching my cornea. I went to an urgent care who referred me…read moreto an ophthalmologist who could not book me for 3 months. The next day, I went to the ER trying to get some relief from pain. I was referred to Dr. Guzman who was able to get me in the next day and was able to help. I was so grateful for the relief. On day 3 of the consecutive office visits, the doctor saw that I had an unused insurance benefit for new glasses and insisted that they could test me for that. I asked if that was a good idea to do it now since my vision was still blurred and didn't the eye need time to heal. Doctor insisted it would be fine. The jerk that did my eye test kept insisting that I decide whether slide A or Slide B was a better view. I honestly couldn't tell because everything was blurry. After again telling the tech I couldn't see, he was just downright rude. Then as soon as the test was over, the doctor tells me that I don't have to order glasses from them but the person that handles the glasses was already in the exam room ready to lead me to the display area. No surprise that my ordered glasses were useless. I had to get retested and they charged my insurance company again for an eye exam that shouldn't have been done in the first place. I am so disappointed with the subsequent terrible service because I was initially happy that the doctor was willing to see me on short notice. Maybe that should have been my first clue.

This practice is ridiculously difficult to work with. First off, they have different locations /…read morephone numbers and the people answering the phones really suck on customer service. I've spent probably 3 HRS going back and forth between them and my primary provider over the past week, just trying to follow up on a referral and set a damn appt. I spoke with "Lupe" who was absolutely NO HELP, and routed me to other departments who also didn't know anything about the referral. This has been going on for a WEEK. Apparently, they never bothered to check the insurance provider website for the approval. I called my primary physician AGAIN, and they finally got things sorted out with these idiots. I haven't even gone in for treatment, and I'm already pissed off. This is really POOR customer service, and it makes me wonder what ELSE can go wrong. If you are thinking about Retina Institute, be prepared for a bad experience.
