They have spared no expense in joining modern comforts wth historic charm. Love the several hidden stairways the hosts will show you. They start the fireplace every evening. Wonderful atmosphere to sip in a whisky and relax. The city of Oban just 15 minutes away is the most charming and all around best village I visited while in Scotland. Add Oban and the Barcaldine Castle to your. "Must do" list for Scotland.

Abide and Daniel picked us up and dropped us off from the bus stop that's just a bit too far to walk from in a reasonable amount of time. They were so warm and welcoming, they are really great people. They accommodated us so nicely on their last night of being open for the year before the castle's yearly break in service. We felt like we had the whole castle to ourselves - we practically did! Just sitting by the fire in the main dining hall and sipping a dram was dreamy. A smoked salmon sandwich, four oysters (on the half shell of course) and an order of mussels Add a coke, and it was under £20. That's a bargain. Especially with how many mussels you get! The mussels are done in butter, white wine and garlic. How is that wrong? (It ain't!). The oysters on the half shell come with lemon and there is Tabasco on the table. All you need right there. Perfect lunch. Freshest of fresh seafood. One. Annie do wrong eating here. The is a monster selection too. Lobster, crab, langoustines, squid and on and on. All fantastic!

Came across this and was a little skeptical on the location alone, but it showed open so we went for it and boy was it worth it! Driving out to a castle ruin, the cabin is just off the water looking to the west with free-air tables and farm next to. All the seafood is freshly caught and prepared to order, and absolutely amazing. When in Scotland, mussels are an absolute must! We had the full seafood platter plus the mussels and we all wanted to eat more and more. If we didn't have to catch the ferry to Islay, we could have easily stayed for a second helping and enjoyed the view and laid back atmosphere. The staff is friendly and wonderful and it's just a picturesque place to eat.

The squid was the best by a big margin and the only thing which stood out over what you might expect in most pubs. The fish was good, but standard. The scallops were also decent, but wanted to be seasoned in some way and thus wound up not being quite as good as the fish or squid. The squid in particular I think really benefitted from being salted and peppered. The chips were good, but again nothing particularly above what you might expect in a normal pub. That said, they were basically all the kids ate, so there's that. The whole thing gets a decent boost from being right on the pier in Fionnphort with a few picnic tables on the patio giving it a great place to eat with a view, but not enough to bump things overall to 5 stars.
