What a lovely store. The ladies were super friendly and answered many questions and good advice. Purchased fabric, thread and some yarn. Well supplied with all your sewing needs and whatever you are crafting with yarn. Found the pricing very reasonable. Not many stores like this in Westchester--they have been in bus 30 yrs! As I have mentioned in my other fabric store/quilting store reviews, one of the things my mom likes to do when she visits me, wherever I may be living, she loves to visit these stores. So, I take her around to what's near where I live. We stopped by this one, it has street parking. It has somewhat narrow aisles, so a little difficult for my mom to navigate around. They have a variety of fabrics for quilting as well as other sewing needs, but there was nothing that really stood out about the fabric selection - you would find this fabric just about at any shop. There are not many fabric stores near here aside from joanns and I love the very personal touch here and I love to support this buisness. The ladies that work here are absolutely lovely. I've been in here a few times for various items. The last time I was in I was buying fabric and tulle for a costume I was making for a Halloween event. I have to say that I they had a decent amount of fabrics available and many notions as well. But the service was sub par and it seemed like I was irritating the woman I was trying to get help me. I'm sure that many people flock to these types of stores during Halloween time for costume fixings. I'm also sure that its annoying to be asked some really basic questions- but I'm a customer and I'm willing to give you my money for your goods- But I wont be back because I seemed to really be an inconvenience. read more

This store is stocked with supplies for quilting and yarn crafts. There is a good selection for these crafts as well as basic supplies for a variety of other sewing: fleece, zippers, buttons, a little home dec fabric, etc. The staff is generally helpful and very knowledgeable. I have shopped here many times as they usually have what I need. Not the most exciting selections, but solid choices in a variety of colors and styles. Psst! Lower Fairfield County knitters -- I've found your next local yarn shop. The folks that own Nimble Thimble opened up a haven for yarn two stores down over the summer. And it's pretty awesome. The space is very homey, with a big area in the front decked out with what look like comfy couches. The yarn selection seems like a good mix of reasonably priced Lion's Brand and Dale of Norway, along with luxurious Berroco and also some local, hand-dyed yarn, from sheep sheared over in Connecticut. It's still in the growing stages, but seems like a great resource. read more

I really, really want to support my LYS but they make it virtually impossible. The hours are very sporadic so you never know if they'll be open. I've driven over on more than one occasion to find them closed. They don't update their website, which might have been an acceptable business practice five years ago, but now it's just a sign that they take their customers for granted and can't be bothered. Another issue I have with this store is that they sell discontinued yarn at full price, so if you buy yarn here, be sure it's current or you'll be fleeced (no pun intended). Again, I really believe in supporting locally owned businesses but it's just too much work with this place. I won't be back. read more

I took a 3-week (6 hour total) sewing class here and I was very disappointed with the outcome. I bought a sewing machine shortly after the class but I had to reteach myself everything through YouTube videos. We were not taught practical skills (hemming, patching, etc.) and only followed instructions from a cookie cutter pajamas kit. Everything was done for us which made it hard to learn. We were not given thorough instructions, didn't receive any hand outs about the machines/ sewing to take home and the instructor set everything up for us so all we learned to do was press a foot pedal. I would have liked to learn by doing, not by watching. I would not recommend taking sewing lessons here if you are a beginner. It was a waste of time and money. read more

Dropped in to The Nimble Thimble recently to see if they had updated and improved their yarn selection and I was most happy to see that they did a major overhaul to their selection. (I want yarn stores to be successful and I Love seeing them thrive with great yarns). It turns out they have a new yarn person there who is a KNITTER and has a passion for good yarns. They even went so far to admit they were not moving in the right direction before and that the selection had been ALL WRONG. They are building themselves up with new, good yarns coming in. They said they will be adding Madelinetosh yarns. This place now cooking with gas and I'm very happy to say they look like they are on their way. It's really nice to be able to drive by and WANT to go in rather than lament that the owner just didn't have GET IT and what a missed opportunity it was. read more

I recently took up crocheting again, being a novice I found the staff at Nimble Thimble very helpful with selection of needles and beginner patterns. One of the ladies even informed me in classes that are offered in crocheting, knitting, and quilting! I am excited to be signed up for my first class, as I love crafting and learning new things. The store owner, JoAnn, was very helpful and friendly and offered her help with questions I have in the future. Overall, I would say, cute shop, very homey, and I will be back again! read more

I visited in mid-January to find a skein of yarn in a specific color to finish a project. I was looking for an acrylic/wool blend - a very sensible yarn. Most yarn shops in the area carry high-end yarns or have very limited selections. For example, the Lion Brand shop in NYC carried a very limited selection and no colors I could use to finish my project. Couldn't find Plymouth Encore anywhere, until my sister took me to Nimble Thimble. Debbie at the shop was friendly and knowledgeable. She also had a couple of good choices for what I needed. I look forward to going there again when I visit the area. read more
