Les Trois Cochons - Østers

Their name translates to "Three Little Pigs"…read more Boy, did we eat like we were! ;-) Being part of the Cofoco chain of restaurants, Les Trois Cochons gives you so much value for your money. (what?! is that possible in Copenhagen?!) After sorting out the confusion of the ordering process, we found that dinner is a pre-fixe menu of 3 courses meant to be shared between two people. Hold on. If you're thinking, we're supposed to SHARE dishes at a French restaurant where courses are traditionally small to begin with? (we were proven wrong, in fact, we had leftovers) The food is casual and uncomplicated. We had foie gras to start, simply salted and served with pickled plums and grilled bread. I can't get foie gras in California so it's always a priority when I travel! For our main course, a very hearty braised pork shank with carrots, leeks and root vegetables. This comes with mashed potato and French green beans. Dessert was a divine assortment of molten chocolate cake, creme brulee and ice cream. You'll be opening your belt a notch to accommadate your expanded waistline ;-) The street Værnedamsvej is lined with French cafes, small specialty stores and this restaurant seamlessly folds itself into the mix being a former butcher shop. A little piece of Paris right here in Copenhagen. Tres bon!

Had passed Pastis a few times while visiting Norreport and decided to give it a try…read more I called ahead to find out they stop serving food/kitchen closes (beverages are availabile) from 3:30-5:30 as a break between lunch and dinner. I arrived around 3 and decided to do the two course meal. I wanted Foie Gras as the second course so the server suggested the Nicoise Salad instead of the Chèvre Salad (next time) which was great advice. This salad was amazing! Perfect combo of Tuna (sashimi), anchovies, haricots verts, olives with a light dressing. The Foie Gras was also very good. The staff was attentive and friendly. Probably the top French restaurant in Copenhagen. I will be back to try some of the main courses.

You know a restaurant's food isn't that memorable if you instead recall walking into the restaurant…read moreroom and I lovely blonde woman walks out past you as your mouth hangs open. "I must be in the wrong room!" I sputtered embarrassingly. She laughed and said with a smile "unisex!" Ah wonderful Copenhagen. So, once I'd confirmed my gender, I took out pronouns back to our table and finished my order. I tease with complete good natured seriousness! Few my age "get" the binary and gender-complex array of people and respect it and again;: Denmark: cutting edge of common sense. But Pastis was not remotely the same or similar to the long gone Pastis of the Meatpacking district if the West Village, a much missed true bôite francaise d'NYC. Steak frite was tough with gristle and somewhat cold. Fries are fries. No Tuborg or Carlsberg! Quelle horreur! Still, the convivial and graceful staff, the people watching outside and more made it a pleasant miss. At one point an electric car crunched glass along the curb and minutes later, a Pastisian was out sweeping it up. Tak!
