"T've gone to Dr. Guiv for about 15 years. She is top notch. She is caring, warm, and empathetic. More importantly, she knows "her stuff" and is an excellent diagnostician. She has volunteered on more than one occasion to comment on other aspects of my health, showing me that she cares about me as a whole. I had read some of these reviews before I saw her, and was prepared for a cold, rather brusque physician. That's OK with me....they're not all warm and cuddly. BUT, Dr. Guiv is lovely and has been nothing but kind, patient, and caring with me, In 15 years, I have never seen anything but kindness and compassion. Wildly unprofessional to the extent that I am wondering if her negligence is due to bias, religious or otherwise. I work in health care, and do not generally experience this kind of thing. I was told to see her and schedule a medical procedure involving surgery. I was not provided other options. I scheduled to meet her. She was extremely brief and direct, but kindly. I liked her in the brief time I met her. I scheduled the procedure many months in advance and never spoke with her again. The week prior I did her prep protocol. I am aware that people can feel ill prior but I was so violently ill for 3 days with her prep care medicine that I was up all night sick and unable to function. It impacted my family as I was incredibly ill. Faint, hot/ cold, throwing up, sick in a car. The only times I have ever been that sick are when 1) I was in the ER with my appendicitis and 2) directly after a six hour surgery due to anesthesia. Also once in Paris after having shellfish but that passed in 5-6 hours, this went on for days. I let the office know multiple times and asked if she could please talk with me. I spoke with reception and an assistant, no nurse and no doctor. They reduced the medicine and I started to feel better. I spoke with a family member who is a hospitalist out of state and he was really concerned. I asked about other options and was told there are some, not as solid, but less likely to make me sick and suggested I speak with the doctor. I called the office to discuss but was shut down. Given the effect of the medication, I was also hesitant to go under without talking with her. I canceled the surgery as I really believe in patient care and that the cure should not be worse than the issue. She then sent me a letter I was fired as a patient, certified mail, due to a break down of communication. In other words, there was no communication but me, very sick, asking for a phone call. How could she take the time to arrange that but not call me back when I was incredibly ill from her prep? I believe I am fairly low risk, so having that conversation would have been much appreciated as well. Yet, impressively, she chose to fire me as a patient due to what, why, I wanted to speak with the doctor who prescribed me medication that made me sick? As if I was trying to run back to her after I canceled my surgery? All I wanted was a phone call at the beginning. I do know how busy doctors are and that trivial matters can weigh them down, but I was incredibly sick. The ability to be humble and kind is what makes this world a good place, and had she taken a moment to discuss options I probably would have just moved forward. I still do not have any questions answered. I dislike leaving bad reviews in the health care space, but there is a lot of arrogance and sometimes it is important - she found it necessary to treat me abusively and so there it is. I am not a lab rat and certainly not going to allow someone to perform surgery on me that is so callous they won't take a minute out of their day to speak with me and assuage the issue they created. Patients do need to advocate for their care, we are human and not everything is suited to everyone. read more

She is professional, capable, articulate, and extemely knowledgeable. I read some reviews here that prompted me to add mine. She is not brusque, she gets right to the point and doesn't waste the patients time. She immediately puts you at ease with her exemplary knowledge and honesty. She won't waste your time if you don't waste hers. She is the most gifted physician I've ever known, she is personable and amiable and my trust in her abilities is unequalled. I saw Dr Guiv a couple of months ago and I am so sorry I did, from the rude office staff all the way to DrGuiv I met with rudeness and incompetency. I had an infection which was never treated and then went in for my procedur and finally my surgery. It turned out I had Avery bad infection that I was never made aware of. Due to that and then taken into surgery made it spread and I got violently ill. The Dr came right out and said to me the assistant called and gave me results, which is a lie no one called me and that would not have made any difference I should not have been taken into surgery if anyone reads this do yourself a favor and find a different doctor and save your life read more

Like many of the reviews mention, I was referred by my GP to see Dr Guiv for some gastro issues I've been dealing with. I felt like Dr Guiv was very uninterested in listening to my problems and helping treat me. She was short, uninterested in my specific issues and didn't seem to listen to what I had to say. I have seen Dr Guiv twice for Colonoscopies and the first time I liked her, the second was completely a different experience, she was rude, condescending and just plain rude. I went back several times because I was having severe stomach pains, each time I complained to her she said go back to your internal medicine Doctor I'm sure that it was stomach flu. After several weeks and severe pain (I thought I was dying) I was diagnosed by a different doctor who said I had severe colitis And this should have been diagnosed by Dr Guiv. I want to spare anyone from having to go through what I went through if I was dying and she was the last Doctor on earth I would gladly die over seeing her again the staff is not any better, I had some lab work done and when I called about it she said I must all ready know because one of the assistants called me and told me. This was not true no one called and gave me results. Then the Doctor said that I was telling a lie, really? No one called me. Dr. Guiv is hostile and rude. I saw her three times and every time her behavior got worse. I should not have seen her the third time, but she had an appointment available, so I did. Big mistake. She yelled and berated me because I was taking two aspirins every day for a week for pain. Then she did not answer a gastroenterology question, telling me "ask that question from your primary care physician." When I told her, "But you are a gastroenterologist," she yelled at me some more. Dr. Guiv is arrogant, dismissive, and downright dangerous. Dr. Guiv walked into my appointment saying "I don't know why you're here, I can't do anything for you. You've already seen so many people. There's nothing else to say." She repeatedly dismissed me and said there's nothing to do for me. I brought in practically my whole history of GI records for her, from all of my life, so that I could provide a comprehensive picture of my health. I went to her because I am looking for a regular GI doctor, because I changed insurance plan and sub-specialists do consults as second opinions only. She has a very bad attitude, and she kept repeating her irrelevant advice (eat more fiber) even though I told her I'm already doing that--in fact, I'm on a plant-based diet with like 90% whole foods. The fact that I'm severely constipated on a high-fiber diet is alarming, because fiber creates more and bulkier stool that's supposed to be passing out of me! She didn't feel concerned at all that there was BLOOD in my stool, or that a combination of prescription drugs + magnesium supplements + laxatives + high-fiber diet + loads of water still doesn't give me a bowel movement, and she wasn't even going to examine me. I asked what the safe level of magnesium citrate is. She said "there is no safe level. Whatever works." She told me to just mix and match whatever OTC laxatives are available to get me to poop. Her advice is downright dangerous and irresponsible. By the way, her office didn't have a means to electronically send medical records. I was told to print and take to the office. I said that's a lot of printing, and you won't have time to scan everything before my appointment. No other option provided. So, I took the printed records, and they initially weren't even going to give them to the doctor. I insisted. But Dr. Guiv ended up giving everything straight back to me. She doesn't care. Doctors like Guiv, increasingly the norm in America, are the reason why people are increasingly resorting to gurus, naturopaths, so-called "traditional" medicines, and pseudoscience. The medical profession has totally failed us, and the prime example of a failed field of medicine is gastroenterology with doctors like Guiv. I hope she retires really damn soon. I never saw this woman but after the way she treated me without even seeing me was enough to make me never want to visit her. She operates under a medical group where my primary physician is located. I was scheduled for a colonoscopy and had to cancel due to my menstruation and heavy cramps. She told her office that I had to pay the $75 cancellation fee no matter what. This woman obviously has no heart for those who are genuinely sick. She is all about making money and not making her patients. Her answer as to a "standard cancellation fee" tells me that this is a cookie-cutter medical office. No concern for each individual on a personal basis. I was referred to Dr. Guiv by a co-worker and I Love Dr. Guiv and her staff. She is sweet, friendly, smart and professional and her staff is exactly the same. I'm recommending her to everyone I know. She and her staff are the best! Update after reading other Yelp reviews: I don't agree with the negative reviews on Yelp about Dr. Guiv or her staff. Dr. Guiv is friendly, funny and she completely put me at ease. I came in for a standard procedure years after I should have. I was afraid that any doctor I went to see would show concern after waiting so long - especially given my family history so I was naturally nervous going in. But Dr. Guiv did the exact opposite! She put my mind at ease. Spent a lot of time with me. She asked me a lot of questions and got a detailed medical history of me and my family. She did a physical exam and answered all my questions. She's so smart and so sweet. I had so many questions leading up to my procedure and Dr. Guiv's staff was so friendly, knowledgeable and understanding. They answered all my questions (and I made multiple phone calls to them) and even sent me emails. So sweet! The medical facility where the procedure was done was state-of-the-art and the Anesthesiogist and staff there were amazing and sweet too! They were so friendly we were actually having fun. Dr Guiv recommended for me to have a special procedure that was only done by another doctor in her office. She said that I wouldn't have to pay for the visit and took me to see the office manager to make an appointment for the next day with the doctor that could do the procedure. I got a bill for the visit and both the office manager and Dr Guiv denied that they said I didn't have to pay for the visit. She only saw me for 5 seconds and led to the office manager. I paid for the visit but will never go back to see her. This review has been resolved. The office manager Wendy read the review and refunded my payment. After entering a consult today with Dr. Guiv, my mind was put completely at ease. I've never met a doctor that cares for their patient as much as her. She was able to answer any questions and soothe any worries I had about my procedure. Understanding she had other patients she still took her time to explain to me the procedure itself; doing this showed me how kind hearted and caring she is as a person and a doctor. -Going to any medical physicians office takes time out of anyone's day, the doctor/dentist including. Today was my first visit with Dr. Guiv. After almost two hours of waiting, I saw her and the whole time she was so aggressive and yelling at me. I don't know if she was having a bad day or what. She would ask me a question and when I answered she said "that's not my concern, take it up with your other doctor. Sadly, this doctor has no bedside manner at all. Especially given the circumstance that she deals with patients during their most vulnerable and uncomfortable time. I understand you have a medical degree but it gives you absolutely no right to speak down to patients. You are supposed to be a medical professional and treat your patients like human beings. You need to acknowledge and understand that coming to a doctor for procedures such as the ones you perform is a very uncomfortable and scary situation for a person. It is not an easy thing to do. Dr. Guiv- Learn to have bedside manner. Be kind. Be appreciative. Be respectful. But most of all, Dr. Guiv-Learn to be HUMBLE. Having a medical degree makes you no better than anyone else. Being humble is way more important that the degree you hold. That is what separates a doctor who cares for his/her patients from ones who are only in it for a paycheck. I was referred by my Dr's ofc to see Dr Guiv. I was a new client. In all my experiences with Doctor's, I have never been treated so unprofessionally and disrespectfully in my entire life until this Dr. She was talking the whole time when I was explaining my issues. I felt rushed. I finally told her that I felt she was not listening to my issues. She stopped and let me talk. Then she said "Can I talk now?" Things got worse when she started asking me questions about my medications. She talked to me in a very condescending, rude, disrespectful and insulting manner. She was telling me how to take my meds that I have been using for years. She asked why I wasn't taking any presciptions for my acid reflux in a condescending tone. I told her I am taking what my Dr recommended to me. She recommended Pepcid for my acid reflux. I told her Pepcid did not work for me. She ignored what I just said and just wrote down on the paper that I need to take along with my other meds and gave the paper to me. Then it got more worse when she asked me when my last endoscopy procedure was. I told her years and I don't remember the date or year. She was confrontational and insulting. She barked why I couldn't I remember my last endoscopy. I told her again that was years ago. She just drilled on me about this issue and told me she could remember what she did years ago. At first I thought she was having a bad day. I realized this Dr was attacking me verbally without any cause or reason. Then she looked at her laptop and told me she saw the medical records from my last Dr and the procedure. She told me very fast what was done and everything was normal. I told her my Dr told me I had a polyp removed. She totally dismissed what I said like I was lying to her and told me everything is normal and I don't need a procedure done until 10 years. She kept repeating everything was normal based on the old medical records from my Dr that was done years ago. I asked her if everything is normal then why do I still get pains on my right upper quadrant. She again rushed and said the same thing. I did not get my answer. After she left in a huff, I complained to the med asst my experience with her was horrible. She told me she was probably having a bad day. I told her Dr Guiv was rushing me, disrespectful, rude, condescending, insulting and I was a new client. I left feeling really upset how I was treated by this so called Doctor with a degree. Wow! Came for authorization for a test needed to this specialist and she was so aggressive, hostile and brusque I left feeling shell shocked. I like no nonsense people and hate chit chat but this doctor comes across more like a militant soldier at war rather than a physician talking about an invasive procedure with a patient. Not my style. I was having stomach issues and made an appt. with Dr. Guiv after reading the reviews on yelp. During my first consultation I observed her to be very matter-of-fact. As a male, this was not an issue. She recommended an endoscopy and because I was going to pay for the sedative, she recommended I do a colonoscopy as well. About six weeks later I went in to had the procedure. I found the facility and the staff to be great. When I woke up, a nurse and then Dr. Guiv we're there to check on me. Although I had many questions, Dr. Guiv directed me to relax and save my questions for the follow up appointment. When the follow up appt. came, I found Dr. Guiv to be very thorough in explaining the results of the examination. Dr Guiv and her staff have to be the worst. Not only did I feel as though I was being yelled at each time I saw her, her staff forgot to send in the request for my procedure until the afternoon prior business day before my surgery which happened to be Good Friday. They called me shortly after sending in the documents to say they hadn't heard anything back from my insurance, when I called my insurance that is when I found out when they sent the request. After going back and forth with my insurance and the office I finally find out the lady who handles the requests was out on vacation and the employee who was suppose to take over for her just forgot and although they normally check a few days prior to any patients procedure to make sure everything is in order they "forgot" and received a phone call from Dr. Guiv herself yelling at me that I better figure something out because her office couldn't have made a mistake. Today I find out that they notated that I cancelled the procedure when in fact their office had to cancel it due to lack of doing their jobs. If you have to go here ask to see any other doctor other than Dr. Guiv, but good luck with that as not only is Guiv rude and hostile, but the office staff will be just the same..... and they are horrible at returning your calls. I had 2 appointments with Dr. Guiv. The first one, she rushed me in and out. She came in with an attitude,and an arrogant way. I had filled out her questionnaire and she decided after talking to me that I would need a Sigmoidoscopy because I had multiple complaints. She I was very polite and respectful hoping she would drop her holier than though attitude. She did not. The next time I came in was for my sigmoid, and she was still the arrogant, no personality doctor. I decided I would never come back. She new what my complaints physically were, and only half addressed them. I asked her what my symptoms could be if they weren't what she she denied they were, and she didn't give me an answer, nor did she think to look into this problem. I finally found a dr. that not only was professional enough to listen to me, but looked into my problem, found out the problem, which I need surgery for, and was very very pleasant and thorough.
