After visiting the falls over on the Canadian Border, as a visitor from the U.S., I had to find somewhere to get my poutine fix. Discovering Niko's Place was the foodie equivalent of witnessing the majestic Niagara Falls. And Niko's more than delivered on both food and service. Located on a street with a small dirt parking lot in a small building, you would have no idea the food treasures you are about to unpack. With just a couple of larger picnic benches and one table with a few seats inside, it's small venue a bit subject to the weather. But even with the heat on this particular day, Niko and his wife were so friendly and kind. From being patient because we didn't have Canadian dollars ready (This place is cash only! But there is an ATM nearby), to friendly chatter and smiles, you can tell they love what they do. As for the food, we went a little crazy and ordered fish and chips, poutine, and even a burger. All worth it. The Poutine (get the mix, which has curds and shredded cheese) was one of the best I've ever had. The bottom started with beautifully plump fries that were lightly crispy on the outside and full of potato goodness on the inside. On the next layer, they had plenty of their mild and full-of-umami cheese curds which was melted just right with some texture from the curds combined with tons of ooey-gooey goodness. And this was all topped off with a generous ladle of a beefy, savory gravy packed with flavor, all without being too salty. Can you tell I love poutine? But wait, there's more! The Fish and chips, which used the same perfect fries for the chips, was an unexpected home run. The Fish was so flaky and tender with just the right bit of crispy breading. And the homemade tartar sauce was creamy, a little sweet and really pulled the whole dish together. And finally, the burger was undeniably delicious and could easily have been a favorite if not for the insane line up. Needless to say, my cravings were satisfied. My stomach is still singing praises days after the visit. The only downside is that I don't know if I can have poutine or even fish and chips elsewhere for a while for the risk that it won't compare to the experience at Niko's. So yes, locals and tourists alike - run there now if you have never been so you can count down the days till your next visit, like me. read more

Came with the wife and kids. My wife and I ordered the two piece Haddock with fries. We ordered a family fries and a kids chicken fingers and fries. The fish tasted fresh and it was accompanied by a really good tartar sauce. I wish I would have taken pictures but...... it was too good to be playing around with photos. Traveling to the area from Maryland and we wanted good poutine. Reviews lead us to Niko's and we are so glad they did! We were worried when we first walked up to the place but we weren't disappointed. Niko was so friendly (and funny)! You could tell he really cares about the food quality he puts out. We had the poutine with curds and it was everything you'd expect in a good poutine. Fresh, flavourful, and big portions.

I ordered a small poutine with half shredded, half curd mozzarella. I LOVE LOVE LOVE french fries and was afraid the small would not be enough for me but this is such a heavy and satiating dish that I don't know why anyone would need more than a small for themselves. I ate this as a meal and still barely finished. I liked that the shredded cheese was more thoroughly melted and integrated with the poutine so perhaps I wouldn't recommend getting the curds. I just had water with my "meal" but I got super thirsty and should have ordered a drink as well. I docked a star because the restaurant interior felt a bit not well kept. We were lucky to having seating but there's mostly the two picnic tables out front and really no where else to sit. As we sat at one of the outdoor tables by the unattractive view of the run down parking lot, we were aggressively eyed and squawked at by some feisty seagulls. So atmosphere is not good, but food is. Friendly crew. Everyone, including kitchen staff waved goodbye to us when we left. Great little gem. I would recommend this restaurant to others. Lucky to have found it! read more

After me and my family went to Niagara falls, we went to this place. The service was amazing. The guy at the counter was really nice and the food was even better. I got a large poutine and it had just the right amount of cheese(I got mixed which is shredded cheese and curds). It was so good we went back to get some for our friends. This place looked amazing. It is primarily take out with limited seating. Out of the main tourist areas it definitely looks like more of a place frequented by locals during their lunch breaks. They do have a lot more than just poutine if you have picky kids like we do. We drove past this place and it looked like a sketchy hole in the wall, but I read a review that this was the place that locals like for "authentic" poutine. It was very good. Quick and good burgers and delicious huge hot dogs. Great prices compared to the area. Spoke with some local guys who were waiting on orders at same time as me. They mentioned they'd been coming here since they were kids. Would definitely stop here again. Not much space to eat at the restaurant (more like a food stand), but it was perfect to take back to our hotel and enjoy! read more
