Checked out this pretty busy bar and grill in Marengo. It often has things like live music going on. Niko's Grill & Pub is kind of far away from everything else but it still is busy though. A lot of room for groups. There's a surprising amount of space. Basic menu items to get. It's got better drinks than food to be honest. There's actually some pretty thoughtfully made up cocktails especially for seasons. Also lots of the beers. The cocktails include the classics and modern stuff. It's about $12 for the Blueberry Mule. This is Niko's Blueberry vodka, along with blueberry Puree, ginger beer and lime juice so it's pretty great stuff. As for the food it's all meaty. They even have the salads topped with bacon so it's not good for plant based people. For sure it's one of the most popular restaurants in the area. It's located on Grant Highway close to Corral Road. This is closed on Mondays to Wednesdays. read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat. The atmosphere is great and the service is even better.

We had the misfortune of sitting next to the table that already left a review here (Irene), so I can confirm: the chaos was not an isolated incident, it was a full production. At some point we gnawed on the bread loaf just to remember what food tasted like, since everything else arrived mediocre at best. We watched the couple next to us wait two hours and get the legendary "we don't know," followed by the reveal that a party of 40 upstairs had apparently been eating their dinner. Riveting stuff. As for our own food: forgettable across the board, except -- and I cannot stress this enough -- the cheese curds. Genuinely good. Possibly the only thing in this building anyone actually cared about making well. And all of it priced like we were dining at a Michelin-starred bistro instead of waiting two hours for a sandwich. I've paid less for better meals at places with actual table service and a kitchen that knows where the food is. 10/10 dinner theater. 1/10 actual dinner. 8/10 cheese curds. 0/10 the bill. It was our first visit to Nikos in Marengo for dinner. We were very disappointed. After waiting 2 hours we asked where our food was? We were told "we don't know"° 10 minutes later we were told "sorry but we have a party of 40 upstairs"! No one came to update us or tell us this situation after 2 hours if we didn't ask. First time diners at this restaurant on Friday (6/19) evening. Overall ambiance of the place is great. We got a table in the bar area. Servers were very nice, but overall service was very slow. It took an extended period of time to get our food from the kitchen. Contrary to other reviews on line, the steak sandwich was not very good and the chicken piccata didn't set well with my date. Had lunch at the bar here today. Watched part of the Bears game. We made a meal out of 4 appetizers. All were great. Crab cakes had nice pieces of crab and the sauce was great. Also had the beef skewers, bruschetta and garlic shrimp. All were great. The waitress was great, the bar was nice and quiet. All and all a great find. Will definitely be back with the family. Wow!! What a great experience. We used Harvest Hosts app and pulled our camper behind the restaurant... went in to order our to go because we didn't want to leave our dog alone in the camper too long.. my husband had the burger and said it was one of the best burgers he's ever had! Worst food ever!! Get a salad with creamy garlic dressing and some homemade bread. You'll be good to go! Everything else on the menu sucks! I get the spicy rigatoni at The Mill in Woodstock for 20 it costs 32 in Marengo. Are you kidding me? 6 for Coors bottle, 7 for Corona. Definite price gouging. Very disappointing! Thank you for making dinner tonight! Decided late not to cook - great decision on my part! Called ahead of time to ensure we can get in... and said no problem... upon our arrival the place was packed... we were like uh oh... they had a Security guy working the parking lot ensuring future patrons all is ok.... It's just the wedding crowd... They had a wedding in the back... let me tell you they were having a nice casual fun wedding!!! Our waitress Janet L. Greeted us with smiles and was very friendly. Took our drink orders explained the specials for the evening. Husband was sold on Prime Rib Special. My son had the meatloaf and I the Chicken Picatta. All was good and the portions size were very large. Doggie bags for the next meal. Took a slice of heaven aka Chocolate Cake home for dessert that too will last for a few more days. During our meal the manager/owner asked how r things - of course we said all is good. It was nice that we were able to talk during our meal and not have to scream to have a conversation. Walked in tonight and walked out. Sat at a high top and was seated by the hostess was given water and menus. Sat there for 20 minutes got up and walked out. Was never acknowledged by any staff after getting seated. It wasn't busy at all. Bunch of open tables, very poor service. Went down the road to Checkers. read more

Food was a 6, flavorful, had some chunks of fat in the chicken and filet mignon skewers, which my husband and I both cannot stand. Waitress was nice, good service. Nice ambiance, however a framed picture of Trump and Vance were displayed at hostess desk, which took all the initial ambiance pleasantries I felt walking in, all down the drain. My wife and I each ordered the Half Greek Chicken Diner and were 100% disappointed when this arrived with the server. You DO NOT get a 1/2 of a chicken ..... but you do get a THIN SLICED PIECE of chicken breast covered over with a greek sauces hiding the portion. They owners obviously do not know what a 1/2 a chicken looks like. For $25.00 each...... $56.00+ with tax. Nikos is deceiving , and ripping you off. We asked the server about this and she said this is the way they do it. I have a 3LB bag of chicken breast from Walmart in my freezer at home with about 8 large chicken breasts in the bag for $7.88 Get the point!!! This meal was hardly any kind of value to say the least and nothing special about it. Stay way because as what else is deceiving here. I will recommend to all to stay way. Always enjoyed dining at Niko's in Marengo. Greek Chicken was amazing. Last visit was early January 2024 and the menu was much smaller with some of the best items off the menu - weird..... Website reflects the original menu - weird..... I just called - today is 1.26 and was told they were keeping the smaller menu and they have not updated their menu - weird...... Need to find a new local restaurant. Too bad - really enjoyed this experience. read more

I made reservations at Niko's Grill and Pub before Thanksgiving for Christmas Eve for fifteen. We got there 10 minutes early. The table was ready and nicely set for us in their beautiful room with the floor to ceiling windows. From there things went rapidly down hill. No server came to our table for at least 20 minutes. Finally I flagged her down to take our drink orders. She took two people's orders and wandered away. Ten minutes later we got the two drinks and begged her to take the other's orders and also ordered several appetizers to share for the table. 20 minutes later we got the rest of the drinks. Appetizers didn't appear for an hour even after several inquiries. 40 minutes later another waitress appeared to take our dinner orders. I don't know what happened to the first one. After another hour the children were becoming restless , as you might well imagine. Niko, the owner, came to the table and told us we were not getting our dinners. So, after three hours there, we paid the tab and left without dinner. Very Disappointed! Will NEVER go back. It's a shame too. This was our fourth year in a row there for our family Christmas Eve celebration. Service had been a little slow there before, but, nothing like this. We always had a good time there and I gave our waitress $100 PLUS the 18% gratuity included in the bill in previous years. read more

My wife and I just ate at Niko's for our anniversary dinner. When we walked inside, I noticed all the windows were open as were the windows on the large patio. I found this odd as it was 86 degrees and sunny outside. We later found out their air conditioning was broken. At this time we weren't aware of this however. We were seated by the hostess in the patio area in a table that was almost completely in direct sunlight. My wife walked back and asked the teenage hostess if we could be seated at a table that wasn't in the sun and she said she couldn't do that because servers were assigned to different areas. I couldn't believe she refused our request, especially because there was plenty of seating available in shaded areas. So, against my better judgement, we sat down in our assigned table. We were then given bread with no butter. My wife asked for butter, and the server cheerily gave us packets of butter in a dish. I opened the butter packet, and because the butter had clearly been sitting in the heat for a long time, it was completely melted. The server then asked if we wanted drinks. My wife had a glass of wine and I asked if there was a cocktail menu. The server apologized and said there wasn't one. By this point I just wanted to get out of there, but we stayed anyway. The food was an afterthought because I was miserable sitting in the sun sweating like a pig. I had a burger and my wife had fried shrimp. Don't get me wrong, we had no real complaints about the food. It was ok. Not great. But nothing special. The experience was awful though. In my opinion, the staff should have stated when they greeted us that the A/C was broken instead of having to find out by accident. Then refusing to seat us in a different location out of the sun was unbelievable. Also a cocktail menu should be implemented. I'm always wary of ordering a cocktail from a bar that doesn't have a drink menu. In my experience, the drinks have been subpar in places without a cocktail menu. Decent food in a comfortable setting. We have eaten here several times and the food has been consistently good. My partner typically orders the broasted chicken and has never been disappointed. I have tried the Chicken Parm (good), Steak Diane (excellent) and Chicken Marsala (gravy a bit too thick for my liking). Our one complaint is that they ALWAYS have brussel sprouts as the veggie. They need to mix the veggies up. Pricing is in line with the quality of the food. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. The upstairs is cozy and quiet. Was part of a craft show there and when we got there they told us we could only have 1 table not 2 like originally agreed upon. Then they decided to charge the coordinator $5 for chairs for the vendors who didn't bring their own chair to the restaurant; they had an event shed over flowing with hundreds of them!!! They made us use the stairs to load our stuff instead of opening the ramp entrance. They advertised a buffet and the only people who paid for it were us vendors because it was DEAD EMPTY NO CUSTOMERS. Never again. read more

We often go here with the whole family, little kids included. Even on busy nights we're never rushed. The wait staff is always very kind and helpful. We've never had a bad meal or even a less than stellar one. The patio is a wonderful place to host a party. Niko himself is very involved in the community. As a neighbor I would know that, unlike the woman from Indiana who let a PHOTO (that she pinched from the Facebook page to leave a bad review, proving she's never been here) of a CARDBOARD CUTOUT to trigger her. We were excited to go here for the first time since they opened. We found the dining room to be very comfortable as well as the overall atmosphere. Unfortunately the salmon I had and the meat loaf my wife ordered were barely edible. Had a party of 6. Food was good and plenty. Meatloaf was great with mashed potatoes. Broasted chicken was very good, and shrimp scampi. Drinks were good. The only issue we had was with the bill. Meatloaf was $19 and steak burger was $16. The bill said meatloaf $21 and steak burger $21. We asked the waitress about it, and she said "Oh you got an old menu. These are the new prices" . Went there today for a Christmas party and was very disappointed! About 70 people and it was so disorganized! We were in a add-on room and it was very cold. If you wanted a drink, you had to go to the crowded bar in another room. We were to order from a choice of 4 entrees and after taking our orders, they waitstaff came back three times and kept asking if we had all ordered. I ordered the Chicken Piccata with brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. It was tasty but not warm. One lady asked for the chicken with the sauce on the side and her food arrived at least 20 minutes after the rest of the table was served, with no sauce. The wait staff was exceptionally rude! Two at our table ordered the Tilapia with Mango Sauce and said it was tasteless. We had help yourself coffee, 2 small pots, and they were empty most of the time. For dessert, there were two small cakes and one medium sized that definitely were not enough to feed 70 people. We were told it was help yourself but the cakes were not cut. Looks like they were scored but into HUGH slices, more than one could eat, and again, not enough for 70 slices. Definitely not going back!! read more

Let's start with the bar. They need to work on their cocktail program. If they are going to have classic cocktails on the menu, they should be able to make the classics. I asked for a sazerac. The bartender looked at me with a blank stare. They didn't have absinthe, so they couldn't make it anyways. I ordered an old fashioned off their menu. Here's the thing, if you're going to muddle a sugar cube in a drink, don't use a large grain sugar. The sugar didn't dissolve at all. If you can't do it right, stick with a simple syrup. I got the 28 oz ribeye with Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. The brussel sprouts were the best thing on the plate. They were delicious ! Pro tip: toss them with a little balsamic after you pull them out of the fryer. They'll be even better. The mashed potatoes were ok. The steak was definitely not a $39 steak. I'd compare it closer to a long horn steakhouse steak than a Gibson's or even a Jameson's steak. It was cooked perfect, but definitely too expensive for the quality. The sides were large portions, but that doesn't make up for the overpriced plate. They should work on that. I've been going to Niko's restaurants for years, but if you're going to dabble in the steakhouse world, you'll need to step it up. Niko shutters restaurants like I go through girlfriends, so hopefully this constructive criticism will be taken seriously. If they don't make improvements, this place will be another vacant lot in the future. Also, just because you call it a supper club doesn't mean it's a supper club. Where's my relish dish ? read more

NO call, NO text, NO contact, so we could make other plans.
