Lamb Racks
Shayer S.

Tried Georgian food for the first time and overall had a pretty good experience. Definitely a unique cuisine that you don't come across very often. For apps, the Elarji Balls with Walnut Sauce were disappointing though. Very bland, boring, and did not have much flavor at all. The Mountain Khinkali was also pretty bland. It had beef filling inside but really needed some kind of sauce or something to bring it together. The Adjaruli Cheese Khachapuri, on the other hand, was so good and one of the highlights of the meal. For mains, we got the lamb racks on a skewer. This was my personal favorite dish. Both the chicken mtsvadi and the beef mtsvadi were excellent. Everyone at the table loved them. The meats were definitely the highlight overall and gave similar vibes to Turkish grilled meats. Also worth noting: the chicken and beef are halal and clearly marked on the menu. The potato wedges and fries that came with the dishes were pretty average. So the appetizers and sides were underwhelming but the entrees definitely redeemed the experience. The Natakhari Georgian pear lemonade was way too sweet for me. Honestly tasted more like licorice and medicine than lemonade. Service was good, ambiance was cozy and casual, and they had a soccer game playing in the background which added to the atmosphere. It felt like a mix of date night couples and families dining out. Clean bathrooms and clean restaurant overall. Food is pretty pricey but since Georgian cuisine is not something you find everywhere, the premium pricing makes sense. Overall, I'd come back, especially to try more of their comfort foods. Not everything hit, but it was still a solid first introduction to Georgian food and I'd recommend trying it.

This place is sooooo good. It is the best Georgian food I have had. I was especially impressed with the khachapuri (perfect chewy dough) and kinkali (so juicy). The beef stew and chicken and potatoes had good flavors. I wish the eggplant rolls were a bit more seasoned but truly such a good place. I crave the food all the time!

My first exposure to Georgian food and it was a delightful experience!! So many new foods to try. We tried the eggplant rolls which were a great first bite. It's served cold and the eggplant is rolled up around a delicious walnut filling. We got the Khinkali, so interesting how it's exactly like the Chinese xiaolongbao just a lot bigger. I tried the mushroom one which was really salty but delicious. My favorite thing we got was the Khachapuri - it's basically a giant pastry with cheese and butter. What's not to love. The bread was soft and light paired with the cheese and butter was delicious. I tried the chicken Mtsvadi which is BBQ. It was a decent amount of food. The chicken was tender. The grilled vegetables were really salty but well seasoned. I tried the pomegranate sauce which was quite tangy. Overall, thought the meal was absolutely delicious!! Just a bit salty.

Discovered another Georgian restaurant in Austin so I had to try it. The ambience is nice and really transports you out of Texas. We started off with the elargi balls which were kind of like arancini but more gritty and came with a delicious walnut sauce. Next came the Ostri beef stew and the khachapuri. The stew was very tasty with a tanginess to it and the khachapuri was the biggest one I've had across roughly 6 Georgian restaurants I've been to in NY and here. Finally, the khinkali dumplings came. They were deliciously seasoned and the dough was supple. I just wish they came out a little earlier in our meal because it was more light in flavor. The service was decent, though I felt they could've been friendlier to new customers as they seemed to be very warm with familiar faces. I'll be coming back!

This is genuinely a nice place to visit if you want to try Georgian cuisine. The interior is beautiful, with a pleasant ethnic style, and the atmosphere feels warm and inviting. The service was good overall, although there was a small mix-up with our order at the beginning. The staff were friendly and attentive. Almost everything we tried was very tasty fresh, well-prepared food that we enjoyed and finished with pleasure. Unfortunately, the one exception was the khachapuri. We didn't like it at all: neither the dough nor the cheese. The cheese tasted very cheap, and the dough was dry and not flavorful. I've had khachapuri in other places before, and it was noticeably better there. Aside from that, all the other dishes we tried were delicious, so the food experience overall was positive. The check is above average, and if you come as a group, they automatically add a service charge to the bill, which is something to keep in mind. Overall, it's a good place to visit at least once to get familiar with Georgian cuisine.

Great food, good service, would come again to eat. This was the first time eating Georgian food. Everything was new but the flavors were rich, fresh, and cozy. We have a tomato beef like soup, creamy chicken soup, mushroom dumplings, cheese bread, and a Georgian soda. My favor was the cheese bread and the creamy soup. There was also a market next store that sold a lot of goods. We liked the soda so much we went next stor to try other flavors. Would 100% come eat here again.

Today we visited Nikala for the first time, and it instantly took first place in my personal ranking of local restaurants. The moment I walked in and saw the tablecloths on the tables, I already felt my first wave of delight. Then came the warm welcome, the way we were seated, and the thoughtful introduction to the menu -- and my admiration kept growing. But when the khinkali arrived... that was it. Straight to the heart. It felt like Georgia. The khachapuri, , rolls, bread -- everything was absolutely delicious, beautifully made, and tasted so clean and authentic. And the service was truly exceptional. You can immediately feel that the people who work there genuinely love this place -- not a trace of anything fake. One young man spoke to us about the wine with such knowledge, care, and respect. A young woman told us about the food, the ingredients, the ovens, the paintings, the meaning behind the restaurant's name, and so much more. It was all done with such warmth and sincerity. At the same time, the service was incredibly delicate and natural. We were never interrupted unnecessarily, plates disappeared almost invisibly, and it felt like they noticed even a glance when it was time to refresh our drinks. Everything in this place feels so organic, thoughtful, and full of heart that from the very first visit, it became my favorite restaurant in the area. I will absolutely be back -- and I will be bringing friends.

I came to Nikala with my family for Sunday lunch after hearing about it from the city of Round Rock's Instagram page. I've always been curious about Eastern European cuisine so we went to try it for the first time, and it was great! Out of the items we ordered, I recommend the khachapuri (adjaruli with cheese) and the mtsvadi tsibili (beef & pork Georgian shish-kbab). Nikala is also a child-friendly restaurant as we had no problem bringing our baby with a stroller. One of the waitresses even offered to open the door for us and did so. The bathrooms were also very clean, and even had a changing station and bidets. Will recommend this restaurant to my friends and family!

A Georgian restaurant in Cedar Park? Who would've thought? -…read moreIf you're looking to expand your palate beyond Tex-Mex and BBQ, run, don't walk, to Sami Sumeli. For those who fondly remember the gone-but-not-forgotten Russia House in downtown Austin, Sami Sumeli is a more than worthy successor. - Georgian cuisine is known for its bold flavors, fresh herbs, walnuts, cheese, and bread, and it stands apart from traditional Russian fare. Sami Sumeli does an outstanding job showcasing these flavors, with a menu full of richly seasoned appetizers and expertly prepared entrées. _ On this visit, I convinced a Yelp OG and his lovely wife to brave the traffic and make the trek to Cedar Park for dinner. We proceeded to order enough food for six people, but here are the highlights. _ We kicked things off with flights of infused vodkas. The horseradish vodka definitely cleared the sinuses, while the cherry and sweeter varieties were smooth and surprisingly rich. Beware, these are stronger than they taste. _ For appetizers, we sampled the salted herring over potatoes with a touch of onion, eggplant rolls stuffed with cilantro, garlic, walnuts, and pomegranate seeds, and a side of sour cabbage that was much milder than expected. We all were impressed how the spices complemented the main ingredients. Nothing overpowered the dish. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Khinkali. These oversized Georgian dumplings are filled with savory broth and your choice of pork, beef, or cheese and mushrooms. The proper technique is to pick them up by hand, take a bite, and sip the broth before diving in. - For entrées, we ordered the Beef Shashlik, featuring marinated and grilled skewers that were unbelievably tender, and the Chakhokhbili, a rich dish of chicken simmered with tomatoes, onions, herbs, and served with rice. Both dishes were easily five-star worthy. - And yes, we saved room for dessert, too much dessert. The Honey Cake, with its layers of caramelized honey sponge and sour cream frosting, was light and refreshing. The Bird Milk Cake combines caramel-honey cake, white chocolate cream, dulce de leche, and prunes for a delicious dessert. Finally, the European Chocolate Cake, a rich cake, with an equally rich chocolate glaze. _ If you're adventurous enough to try something different, you'll be rewarded. We'll be back for sure. Unlike other dumplings, you're meant to grab the top knot like a handle and take a bite out of the juicy parcel full of mushrooms, in this case, steaming and sprinkled with a liberal amount of black pepper. It's much closer than Georgia (the country, not the state, to be clear) got vegan mushroom khinkali and ABSOLUTELY worth the trip from anywhere in Texas.
