The food - 5 stars. Absolutely delicious. We shared the Bent Breakfast Burrito with Al Pastor Pork + Avocado + Eggs + Red Onion + Chipotle Sauce. MMMMMM. Big portion and so filling. I added an extra egg for protein! We also split the Monte Cristo Fried Chicken Sandwich - Fried Chicken Thigh, jelly, swiss cheese, all pressed in-between two amazing slices of french toast. HOWEVER - gotta throw shade at the management of the restaurant/hotel. There was 1 server handling 8-10 tables on her own, doing the best she could, but the wait time was bananas. For 2 entrees, we waited 40 minutes. She was obviously hustling but someone from the management staff should have came down to support if they were short handed. read more

Perhaps you should edit the menu on open table, like as such, so it is not your restaurant week menu. :) What's the deal? :/ The restaurant has a great aesthetic, it's beautiful! It was also E-M-P-T-Y! For a Friday night at 6:20pm, that seems immensely disappointing. I wish they had the menu we saw. Whoever designed your restaurant is SPOT! ON! The food and service were terrible. They do a breakfast buffet that they charge $20 for. The options for hot breakfast food were limited to your traditional wet scrambled egg trough, over or undercooked bacon soaking in an inch of grease and the worst french toast you ever had. The other option was to stand in line for an omelet made by one single cook so naturally there was a line of 10-15 people at times resulting in an extremely long wait. Our server was good but she must have been by herself because we hardly saw her and it took forever to get the bill. At one point I asked if I could bring a to go box with some food to my wife who was getting ready for a wedding and our server said it was fine. She grabbed me a to go box and ultimately charged me full price for a second buffet which she never told me she was doing. It's marginallly better than a traditional continental breakfast but instead of being included with your hotel stay you are charged $20. read more

I would rate this 0 stars if I could. They have no clue what is going on or how to run a restaurant. Took two hours to get entrees. Management came out after 40 minutes to explain they were out of just about everything we ordered. Slow service, drinks and apps took forever. No one here knows what they're doing. The space is beautiful and the menu looks promising but the experience is an absolute joke. Avoid. Literally go anywhere else in acme or traverse. Quick update: the staff here seems to be the same staff as the hotel and banquet areas in general which explains the lack of specific training around how to run a restaurant. read more

Hey, don't eat here. The food tastes like nothing and is covered in flies. I mentioned the flies to the waiter and was told, "it's just the season; they're everywhere." We just had a wounded full Valentine dinner special there, my wife both had the scallops that we thought were out of this world, the beet salad was good and the deserts were also out of this world. The waitress was new but very attentive and pleasant, and being new to the job did an excellent job. To me if you go to The Grand Traverse Resort you need to order off the menu and not eat off the buffet. The chefs are far more talented and the buffet is just that another buffet with just ok food that is made to try to please some people. My wife and I live in Traverse City and have been to a lot of or restaurants here and this was a very good dinner and experience for our Valentines dinner. read more

Had a terrible dinner last night at Niijiis. The chicken on my sandwich was dark brown, obviously left too long in the deep fryer. My neice had a pork sandwich that was all bread and a few sprinkles of meat. I'm shocked because I had been told this was an upscale restaurant. It was REALLY terrible. This one is hit or miss. Waitstaff was friendly each morning we ate here. Had breakfast three times, twice the buffet, once off the menu. Omelettes on the buffet were very good, the rest of the bar was average at best. Eggs prepared off the menu were cooked to perfection. The problem with ordering off the menu is that they were very slow, took about 30 minutes to get three egg dishes. It's a small restaurant, but was kept very clean. Prices were very high. It was $42 for breakfast off the menu for three people and we all had water. It was about $50 each day for breakfast off the buffet for the three of us. read more

My family went here to catch breakfast. Everything on the buffet was cold. The Waffles and French toast were like hockey pucks. They were that hard. I was very disappointed in the price we paid for this and what was being served. Our server was great though. Management and kitchen staff should be checking the buffet so that hot food is served continuously. For a high-end hotel I was very disappointed in this. I don't know that I will come back. Ordered Mac and cheese for my child (did not say I wanted a "kids" Mac and cheese) and was served a small cup of lightly microwaved Kraft Mac and cheese and was charged $14 when the "fancy" menu Mac and cheese was $15. I've been staying at this hotel for 30 years and this cafe has gotten worse year after year. I stayed there this past weekend and went in for the morning with my family to the buffet. After 15 minutes of waiting, the food was never replenished (eggs, bacon, sausage). The quality of the food was terrible. The omelette at the omelette station was undercooked and soggy. The two stars are for the kids meals of a nearly perfect grilled cheese sandwich, impressive cups of fruit, and chicken tenders, but the adult meals were so disappointing that I would've given only 1. To give credit where I think it's due, the wild mushroom pasta that I ordered could have been a truly inspired dish, but for the heavy-handedness with the red/white wine vinegar, which rendered it nearly inedible. I am borderline obsessed with pasta, mushrooms, cream, and adding acid to creamy dishes, so what really should've been a dream meal for me ended up with half of it going in the trash. Maybe sending it back would've given the opportunity to fix the mistake and revive my faith, but my twin toddlers hovered on the edge of turning into miniature Hulks for most of the meal, so we were stuffing our faces as quickly as possible while attempting to keep the inevitable meltdowns at bay. All I could taste was the vinegar, to the point that it hurt my stomach. I was so disappointed. My husband ordered the beef tenderloin, which actually had the same (or uncannily similar) creamy mushroom sauce under the tenderloin, and thought everything was fine enough, but for the tiny portion of beef. He wasn't looking for a massive side of beef, but this was roughly 3.5 inches long for a pretty pricy dish. We can round up to 4 inches as I didn't actually measure the portion and may be a bit faulty, but I think the answer is closer to 3.5... anyway, I digress. Yes, our girls were a major distraction from enjoying the meal, but I don't think I'm really commenting on anything other than the vinegar and portion sizes here. There must be a new chef/manager. Most of the menu is new. I had the buffet because I was running late and got there about 45 mins before they closed the breakfast menu thinking the food would not be as fresh. Well I was surprised everything was still hot and fresh, fruit was cold and everything was so delicious. The wait staff was amazing they were kind and caring. They helped me with my grandson who is 2 and kept him busy so I could grab food from the buffet and also so I could eat when he was done. on top of that this was the week that U of M football team was there and pretty much fed an army of players and there was still food left on the buffet line. The restaurant was clean considering a whole football team had just gone through there. Looking forward to this great experience again on my next visit. read more

We had a large group staying at the Grand Traverse Resort and we all met for breakfast at Sweetwater, which was conveniently located inside the resort. We all really enjoyed it. Good service and we liked the food which included an option for the breakfast buffet. And particularly for a restaurant inside a large resort, it was reasonably priced. We recommend it. read more

A fellow server that that appreciates talent in the restaurant industry has seen coworkers and Nikki especially, go above and beyond for guests and members. The people that work here make you feel at home and is an amazing wake up call to get moving in the morning. The food is well priced especially for traverse city prices and the coffee is always hot. Our cooks put there heart into the menu and put there talents to the test every day to strive to be better. We are not the best but we are striving to be. read more

Took us fifteen minutes to just be seated. After that, we were told it was buffet only and that's fine, except that the buffet was all pretty much empty at 10:30am. I didn't realize that I walked in close to when they were closing until after I'd sat and ordered and they were so nice! Really bad service. No water refills. Waiter brought our tray of food out after a horrendous wait and tried bringing it to another table then went back into the kitchen for 5 minutes and finally I had to tell him it was ours. He seemed completely confused and as if he'd never worked in a restaurant before. The food was not bad but the wait staff seemed so inattentive that multiple tables were complaining or straight up leaving before their food came. Apparently this is an ongoing issue here.
