All the plants I've purchased have been unique and really healthy. Last December owner/tattooer Joseph McSween canceled my appointment because he was sick then gave two options to reschedule neither of which were times I would be available. I then went to his shop and witnessed him being completely rude to the girl working up front (his wife apparently) publicly complaining she wasn't checking tattoo clients in fast enough when she was trying also to run the plant shop side. This was so off putting I just walked out without speaking to them. I was told via email all deposits are non refundable but I would never want someone like him to tattoo me especially when my intention was to start a large project with him. Again HE IS THE ONE WHO CANCELED. Other Tattooers who I have since worked with both mentioned they'd offer to return deposit if they were the one who canceled. I also had concerns with scheduling out a large project one appointment at a time. I ended up booking elsewhere and all of my appointments were planned and booked when the project was started. read more

I got a tattoo from Aleisha a few weeks ago. It was so great! Arriving on time, she was waiting tending the adorable and cozy shop front. Set me up with the form while she set up in the back. She had a few size options of the preselected flash ready to go, and was easy to work with on placement. The vibes were great, they had a really good playlist going. Her partner was already mid tattoo session. The small talk was easy, but for the most part everyone was focused on the job at hand. This is a very honest review from my own experience with the tattoo artist and the customer service I received. I know everyone has a different experience and if yours was just fine that's great! I'm just explaining what happened to me which I personally felt was not great. I had reached out back in late December/early January with my tattoo submission to Joe. I was extremely excited once I got the email from him saying that I had been chosen. I loved his work and knew he would do exactly what I wanted for my next piece. I sent my deposit and scheduled for my appointment to take place on 4/23/22. Two weeks before my appointment, I reach out to Joe and ask if I could do an in person consultation so we scheduled that right away and I made the drive all the way down to Queen Anne (big drive for me since I come from up north) and met with Joe to go over the details of the design. The vibe was great and we had a plan for the tattoo. He had asked me to send him pictures of the Flora and fauna I wanted on my tattoo and I did just that. I never heard back from him at all and assumed everything was peachy so when the date approached, I was super excited to get my tattoo. At midnight of the 23rd, I get an email from Joe saying that he would need to cancel our scheduled appointment and move it as he hadn't had time to work on it at all. I was very shocked and sad as I really had been looking forward to this day and had rescheduled all my plans to accommodate this tattoo. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and rescheduled for the following week and double checked with him to make sure that that would be enough time for him to put the design together. He assured me that it would be ready by then so we booked it for early May and I even took time off of work that day to make this happen. Morning of the second scheduled attempt, I get a text from Joe stating that he had only been able to get a small portion of the tattoo design done but would not be able to see me that day. So again, my appointment was canceled and he gave me the option to get a full refund back (he had out the deposit number as $200 in his text when it was actually $100 that I had paid) for the delay but I held out hope that the third time would be the charm to make this happen. Joe had assured me that he would work on the design and reach back out to find a time that worked for me when he was ready with it. I waited two weeks and had heard nothing from him at all. I then texted to ask him if he had some of it ready to see if we could get part of it done as I knew it would take multiple sessions which I had also booked for September. I tried to be patient, but it honestly hurt me to see others that had their appointments scheduled get their tattoos done on time and here I was still waiting on the sidelines for my tattoo design to even be finished. The icing on the cake was when he posted on his Instagram story that he had availability due to some cancellations and didn't even think to reach out to me at all. I had been waiting patiently and that was enough for me so I sent an email and took him up on getting a refund of my deposit back (again, he had told me in text he thought it was $200 which is why I had asked for that amount back as I couldn't remember what I had put down and was going off of what he told me). I will never ever go and support this business again. Im so hurt by how I was treated and the poor customer experience I received from Joe. Please think twice when booking with him and he clearly doesn't have his shit together. Also, his partner charged me a hell of a lot more for a plant than what the price showed on their website when I checked it the next day. Was just trying to support a small business but really felt taken advantage of. read more

I frequently visit Nightshade, mostly to chat it up with the owners- Joe and Aleisha, who are amazing! Such a cute spot tucked into one of my favorite streets in Queen Anne. Close to good food, entertainment & there's even a small park down the street. Aleisha is very knowledgeable on anything I've ever asked about my plant babies & has made the front half of the shop such a fun place to be. As for the back half of the shop, as somebody who has been tattood at other places and bigger shops- Nightshade is such a comfortable, private workspace & definitely eases the pre tattoo anxiety I have had. I've been a huge supporter of Aleisha and Joe since they opened, so when I got the chance May 2021 to book myself an appointment I was all over it. I gave Joe a general idea of size and style, but let him have complete control over what flora would be included. Joe and Aleisha went above and beyond, even going on a picnic to go look at flowers that he might want to include. It ultimately took 3 sessions, but then again this is back breaking work! Joe creates beautiful art, and if you ever get the chance to book with him you won't regret living with his art on your body. read more

I love visiting Nightshade whenever I need a new plant. I've been collecting plants from them since they opened! Here's my collection now, i have thriving a Alocasia Black Velvet that I purchased last June as a birthday present to myself and somehow we are both still here to tell the tale! I also have my magnificent Begonia Maculata who is a pride of mine for always pushing out new leaves! I also purchased the Alocasia Polly most recently and she has really thrived in my plant cabinets! They also have really awesome curiosities and homey-items like candles that are my go-to gifting item! The experience is one of a kind, the art is amazing, and Joe and Aleisha are the best. Its not your normal tattooing experience. Its a private one on one room in the back of the shop with the cutest little plants in the front. I was allowed as many snack breaks as i wanted and he is a lot kinder and more patient than many tattoo artists I've experienced in the past. i followed him from his last shop (a more traditional one) and im so happy he has his own space now.
