I think I knew the owner back in 1979-80 or so, but that family isn't the current ownership. Good Chicago dogs here and the rest of the menu that goes with a place that does Chicago dogs. I really miss being able to find a good Chicago dog place around any corner but I guess it's better for my health that I'm in Milwaukee now. There are no authentic Chicago style hot dogs to be found in Milwaukee, if you see one on a menu anywhere in Southeast Wisconsin don't bother, you'll only be bitterly disappointed. This place, however, is the real deal. I don't know why anyone would complain about the service, if I got an overly polite, saccharine sweet, scripted dialogue from a hot dog stand cashier I would walk out without paying. I expect a no-nonsense gruff White Sox fan working class competent exchange that puts a red hot without ketchup in my hands without any butt-kissing. And that's what I get here, from the 1979 to now.

What can one say about a Chicago Dog? Hmmm, well as my neighborhood spot I have to say a lot. Hot Dogs in Chicago are definitely a dime a dozen, but how the hot dog is made can make a world of difference. You see, at Nicky's you have to get it Chicago style. No ketchup thank you and just the flavors that remind one of how it once well. Let me not be melodramatic but lets keep it real. Chicago Hot Dogs have to be made correctly in order to be considered real. And at Nicky's they make sure that you have that experience. I mean of course you can get other items here also, but the hot dog is what I come for. Juicy and just as I remember a hot dog to be when I was a small boy in Bucktown. You have to have that snap in the dog too, and without that extra snap, its just a hot dog. Of course please note that they also sell other items such as hamburgers too. Oh and they gyros plate, lawd, its definitely enough for two people as the plate has two gyro breads to share and with plenty of fixings, you just can't leave hungry.

So I will say I have history here, but a real Pulaski hot dog place. I worked down the road 20 years ago and would go there at lunch it was a full on Circus. So I am doing a job near by I stopped in. WELL LET'S SAY THE AREA HAS IMPROVED. It was a older Polish neighborhood but now appears a lot more upscale. So I get the Chicago Dog and a Italian beef. Yes I am a big guy. The dog was good, there relish is the one out of mustard. Tasty! there fry's are a steak FRY cut style. I love salt. So the the Beef I had hot peppers. It was huge amount of beef. So much you need to ask for extra hot peppers. I know odd! Well it is still solid. It not a Steak house it is a great lunch stop. Good to see it still on Pulaski!

Horrible breakfast sandwich! At least Mcdonald's is consistent!!

Even though there was a bit of a wait to get our shake, it was absolutely worth it. Rich, creamy, and loaded with the flavor of Portillo's iconic chocolate cake, it's every bit as indulgent as people say. It's definitely not an everyday dessert, but if you're visiting Chicago, it's one of those classic treats you should experience at least once. Do yourself a favor and order one--you won't regret it!

Good day dear reader,…read more I was visiting my family in the town for a week, I took the decision of going to the well know "Portillo's... Chicago"®. I was there with my wife, we got diferent set of Hotdogs and some pasta and two sides of fries and our drink. We will start with; The side of the pasta is really slow & they will stop at 11:00pm, what is completely okay and I do understand it, BUT! Hold on, because you can pay for things from that kitchen and they will tell you "it is too late and now we don't have more pasta, we cannot help you". That happened today with us 07/30/2026. It is annoying, because I needed to talk with different people to be able to get my food, with a people that doesn't reply to "good evening" or any kind of regard, after it, we started eating (approximately 30 minutes after our arrival). The pasta was not well cooked, it was hard, I don't know if that is the style of the place, but for me that was bad cooked, the sauce is good, taste ok, the portion is ok, but have in consideration that is not meat in there, you are paying just for the "pasta", then the fries are so soft, good, here I won't complain because the fries are one of those things that could be in different ways and the people will see it as good or bad, but they need a little extra of seasoning. The great thing: The hotdogs... expensive... no flavor, the sauce isn't a "quality" sauce, I am paying around 5 dlls per hotdog, I am specting a better quality, the bread is really simple, etc., average hotdog of a weekend at your backyard. The drink has a good size, no complaint. The workers are in a hurry all the time, they don't have time for regards or quality of attention to each customer, I encourage you to add more personal to your boards and to pay them better, they work hard. Best wishes, Salazar.

I asked for extra sport peppers... and they never made it into the bag. The peppers that did survive then launched itself onto the ground after my first bite, never to be seen again. A lone pepper remained. A true Chicago casualty. I ordered ahead for pickup at 12:15, and while it was ready on time, I think it had been sitting for a bit because everything was cold by the time I got back. The fries had good flavor but had sadly crossed over into soggy territory. The sauces were tasty (and generously portioned), but paying $1 each bruised my sauce-loving heart just a little. One thing that genuinely surprised me was the seating. The inside is tiny, and almost all of the seating is outdoors. It had me wondering... what exactly happens here in a Chicago January? Do we all just huddle around our hot dogs for warmth? Overall, it wasn't a bad meal, it just didn't live up to the hype for me. Maybe I caught them on an off day, because I can definitely see the potential.

It has that classic late night comfort food vibe and feels like one of those staple spots you have to try at least once. First night I ordered a polish hot dog with everything on it and a fish sandwich w/ extra grilled onions. Super cool that your order comes with fries and I added a cheese cup both times. In my opinion the fries were mid the first go around, but second time they were better. Definitely tasted better dipped in cheese. They were kinda airy in texture, if that makes sense. Polish hot dog was around a 6.5-7/10 for me. It did taste better warmed up the next day. What I was most obsessed with was the double cheeseburger and fish sandwich! both were easily a 10/10. Super good prices and worth the money. Also, the chile peppers were sooo bomb and hotter than I expected ! I wanted to eat them all, but they were packing some serious heat! The lemon Italian ice is where it's at, make sure to order one! You can also mix it with strawberry, but both times people recommended the lemon and now I see why. The line gets super active and busy past 10-11pm, but during the daytime it's way less crowded. Even when it gets packed the line moves pretty quick. They stay open late and close at 1am which is nice.

Both were nice and hot. Fries were crispy and that first snap into the juicy sausage was worth the trip. No seating, so be prepared to eat in your car and get a bit messy. Also be warned the peppers are legitimately spicy, those serranos had my partner sweating. Glad I tried it, but not something I'd eat all the time, great late night drinking kind of food.

It was almost 11pm (they're open until 2am on Fridays.) and there were at least a dozen other vehicles in their drive-in stalls. Ordered their specialties, a Superdawg and Whoopskidawg with Superfries, Chocolate Super Malt and Black Kows. Service was fast and friendly at 11pm on a Friday. We were eating in our rental car in apx 10 min. It was cool to eat outside on a warm July night in a classic, 1950s style drive-in. The food was excellent, flavorful and fresh. I normally avoid krinkle cut fries because they are usually frozen and mushy or mealy. Not Superfries. These fresh cut fries were practically fried mashed potatoes. We loved them! The drinks were perfect. The Black Kows is basically a root beer float and served with an extra root beer "sidecar." Our only complaints were about errors with the garnishes. We specifically said we wanted all the garnishes on both dawgs and they only gave us the standard grilled onions on the Whoopskidawg and forgot the sport peppers on the Superdawg. Otherwise we loved everything. We might go back next week (before we fly home) because I really want to try their Whoopercheesie Burger and maybe a Supersundae.
