Car was towed there at 10 pm. Owner was so mad at me for trying to give him business the next morning that he wouldn't accept my car because I didn't leave a note in my windshield. Hi there, I am going to keep this short and sweet. I work at St. Mary's College in Moraga, and I happened to have an issue w/ my car 2 years back. I had a '95 Chevy Blazer and it had a whirring sound. I pulled in to get gas, at MSC Gas Station, and saw Nicks Auto Repair at that facility, so i asked the mechanic what he thought about the sound. Nick asked me a few questions, extrapolated some info, and made a diagnoses on the spot---fuel filter in gas tank is bad..it will go out soon, and you will be stuck somewhere. Boom, he takes it in and fixes it the same day. That was my first experience w/ him. Over the last couple of years, I have gotten to know Nick and he is well loved in the community. This guy is a total straight shooter, easy going, and a mechanical savant (the guy fixes and knows any car--truly amazing). This guy knows it all. I have seen him take on literally every type of car...from top shelf mercedes, corvettes, acuras, lexus, to my humble little hoopties (I have a 2000 mercury villager minivan too). Re: the '95 Chevy---he kept that thing running for me for 2 years, and finally told me, "no more service for that car". That car was done, and to repair it would cost more than it was worth. You will only have one mechanic like Nick in your life. If you're lucky. The guy knows everything about any car you bring him. Yet, he actually wants you to NOT spend your money. He'll diagnose your issue and find a way to avoid a costly repair on the spot, if at all possible. He had his head in a classic Benz the first time I came to talk with him. He was fixing the locking mechanism on a 1990-something Toyota when I dropped off my car. He replaced what I needed, plus my 60K service, for less than HALF what the dealership quoted to repair the initial issue. Might I just mention that he's actually a really good human? This business has the worst customer service I've ever witnessed. If you want to be jerked around and get overall poor service, stay home and work on your car by yourself. You might actually do a better job than the people at this place. It's clear they do not care one bit about their customers. My car was in the shop from 930-6 for a simple oil change, new tires and new alignment. I was told it would be done by five. I show up and get told it will be another fifteen minutes. During those fifteen minutes, the employees decided to talk to a "customer" for fifteen minutes instead of doing their job. When I came back, they said they would get started on it now. Oh so what were you doing this entire day with my car? Scratching your head and looking at a wall? I watched them finish my car. They told me to pay. I did. While I'm inside, they pulled the car out of the garage and left my keys in the car, windows down, and didn't tell me anything. They didn't say a word. Probably because they knew they were being shady and overall they neglected to do their job. Save your money and your time. Shut this place down. Horrible place. read more

I give Nick 5 stars for his service because his service is completely deserving of it! I was not sure where to have my car checked since I have zero knowledge on cars. I went to an auto mechanic next to my house where they wanted to charge me $1200 to get some parts fixed. I was planning to take my car back to that same auto mechanic until my sister recommended me to Nick. The very next week I went to Nick to check out my car and to give me a second opinion. He ended up giving me a price that was half of what the last auto mechanic was trying to charge me. He ended up telling me that my car does have some issues but that I don't have to drop over $1000 all at once. He took care of my car with half the price the last mechanic was trying to charge me. It was such a relief! I would recommend Nick's auto services to anyone. He's friendly, funny but most importantly honest. I only has one issue that they quoted me one price and when I went to pick up my car the bill was $50 more. We bought in craigslist a 20 year old Camry with 247,000 miles. Nick has serviced it and repaired it on time, with a smile, being very straight about what to repair and what not. His prices are very reasonable, works fast and the guys knows a lot. Nick's colleagues are first rate and service is always most responsive; the prices are more than reasonable for the Lamorinda area and the expertise he provides to these diverse set of wheels I possess from Japan and Germany. There are some fine choices locally to get your vehicles attended to, but I say that you need not look any further if you have read this review. We've recently moved to Moraga and I was looking for someone close by that could help with the cars. I've got an older car that I don't want to spend too much against to keep it running and when I went in last week with a flat tire they let me know that the seal around the chrome wasn't holding (no leak or puncture in the tire). Now at this point the guy can pretty tell me anything to sell me into something expensive. Instead he says "go to the hardware store and get a bottle of Green Goo, it's about $10 and come back over". I return with the bottle and he pours this stuff into my tire, tells me to drive around a little and that should hold the seal. $20 bucks and I'm out the door - they helped me replace the tire, etc. on their dime. One of the worst car services. Went there to fix a problem with car oil leak, they took all day, which is OK. Went there to pick up the car at 3pm, a time they had suggested, and got he car at 5pm. Was driving back home to SF when close to Bay Bridge toll plaza, smoke started coming out of the car; traffic was horrendous, the smoke started getting heavier and it started to smell like something was burning. The car was overheating and the alarm beep in my car went off; I was able to drive until the toll plaza. I stopped on the side. Called AAA and a friend called Nick, who came to get the car about two and a half hours later. AAA wouldn't pick up the car until much later because they were very busy that night. My friend also came to help; we checked the car oil,which was extremely low! a big surprise to me since they said they had changed he oil and all. To make a long story short, Nick took the car back and worked on it the next day. Said the car had no coolant and that the coolant had been the problem, not the oil, but why did the car had no coolant?? in any event, he said he fixed the issue. I took the car back a day later. I drove the car one day and pretty soon that afternoon I had the same problem with the smoke and the overheating signal! Took the car to my other mechanic in the city and this mechanic said not only was the oil leak never fixed (it's still leaking), but I now had a problems also with a radiator leak, which I never had a problem with before. Best and honest business! I brought my car here because when I did a oil change at one of those "quick/cheap" oil change spots next to a gas station, they told me the coolant was leaking and other things that needs to replaced all cost around $400. But I decided to get a second opinion on that so I brought my car to here and it turned out nothing was broken, it was just loose and pressure was low. Thanks to the guys here who were so patient with explaining everything to me because honestly I am one of those girls who doesn't really know much about the mechanics of a car except being awesome at changing stations on the radio. With a lightbulb that needed to be replaced and all other minor fix, total was about $60. Thank Lord I came to this place eventually and not spending my hard earned money on the other repair shop whom clearly wanted to take advantage on people like me for knowing so little about cars. The really unfriendly, unsmiling 'intake' guy actually berated me last time, saying that he looked through the glovebox of my car (!) to see where I've been getting my major servicing done and that he can't make any money doing just oil changes. Nick is great, I now live in Pleasant Hill but I still bring my cars out to Moraga because he is such an honest and competent mechanic. I happen to be pretty mechanically inclined so usually mechanics have a hard time overcharging me, but it still gets tiring calling shady shops out on their tactics. Nick is different. He knows that the way you win business is to treat your customer with respect and honestly; give them a reasonable and fair repair, and you'll win their loyalty for life. The only thing that sucks is that you have to go to Moraga to get to him, but if you have an older car and you're getting a $1000 quote, take it to Nick. I had a REALLY bad experience there. Nick's was recommended to me by a friend. He kept our car for about 2 weeks, after which when I got it back the air conditioner was not working (which wasn't the original problem). I took it back there and they fixed it, but when I got the car back I noticed sometimes the car wouldn't start. I had gotten a new starter put in it a few months before (from the dealer). I ended up taking the car to Nissan, only to have them tell me that someone had replaced the new starter with an OLD one. I wonder who did this. Nick denied it. I was had by them. I see a ton of great reviews and am usually one to give the benefit of the doubt, but the experience was awful. Be careful. read more
