Even though Zalla was already catering a wedding, they still made sure to accommodate our large order. They delivered 7 different dishes to the house, handled the setup, and helped make a very difficult time easier for our family. After my father's burial, we hosted a Khatm-e-Quran at Ruby Event Center in Livermore and again asked Zalla to cater, this time for 250 people. Once again, they came through for us. Every guest commented on how delicious the food was. Between the white rice, the shola, the kabobs, and the desserts, everything was excellent. More importantly, the compassion, professionalism, and service their team showed our family meant a lot to us during a very hard week. We truly appreciate everything Zalla and their staff did for us.

My husband ordered a steak shawarma plate ~ the steak was cut perfectly for our kiddo to enjoy too! We also did a cold mezze side of hummus with pita. There is interior/exterior seating. The eggplant dip was too sour. In order to make everything work, I highly suggest you save the red sweet pepper dip and mix it with everything else. I enjoyed the two falafels because they were hot, very light and crispy. The dolmas were sour. Overall, I felt like I was eating a lot of baby food. It's difficult to take home dip so I just ate it all which is a lot of food. I enjoyed the chickpea salad. It was one of the three items that was not a dip. The dips went well with their pita. When you order two entrees, you get a good amount of pita. They always serve complimentary black tea with your meals which is comforting to have. This restaurant is always clean and the music relaxing and not overwhelming.

It also had a slight "refrigerator" flavor like it was stored uncovered and it absorbed flavors from other food in the fridge or freezer. Issues like these will erode the good will of loyal customers if they persist. The other thing the restaurant has messed up is when I ordered the Sultan salad. This particular salad doesn't typically have lettuce. It has tomatoes, cucumbers, chickpeas, feta, and avocado. Once, staff gave me a lettuce salad instead. This has happened only once, again when I did takeout. Partially my bad since I should check the bag before leaving. Could also be a language barrier. That particular night, I was trying to be extra healthy and making special requests. The cashier must have been so confused and didn't know how to key my changes into the register. Next time, instead of trying to order a lettuce or protein wrap, I'll get the chicken burger as is and discard the bun at home. Or won't order smaller portions of different salads to try to make a "sampler" salad plate. S'OK tho, as long as it is some sort of salad, I can truthfully tell my doc I'm eating healthy. We came in on a weekday for the lunch special and I was excited to see it was still on the menu. I ordered the vegan beef koobideh and added a vegan chicken koobideh for $5. The lunch special comes with half rice, half salad, plus a drink. I chose the iced tea and it was really refreshing. For an appetizer, I had my must-have mast-o-musir (shallot yogurt). They also bring out butter and half a raw onion, which I always thought was random until I asked my Persian coworker how you're actually supposed to eat it. Turns out the butter is meant to be mixed into the warm rice so it melts, and the onion is used as a palate cleanser. You peel off a small piece and take a bite between eating your rice and protein. Once you know, it totally makes sense. Between the two koobidehs, the vegan beef was the clear winner. It was flavorful and honestly didn't taste like fake meat at all. The vegan chicken was good, but you can slightly taste that Impossible-style meat flavor. Next time, I'll definitely just get two beef koobidehs. Overall, I'm really glad I came back. After trying a bunch of other Persian spots, this is still my favorite, especially now that I can enjoy it while eating vegetarian. Highly recommend.

The flavors were subtle and balanced, with hints of saffron throughout, especially in the rice. They also have a good selection of vegan options, which is nice to see.
