Came for the 2025 Ice Cream Wars to support local schools. What a fun reason to eat ice cream and try flavors I wouldn't have normally. I got a flight (which came with a waffle cone) because I couldn't decide which flavor I wanted. Got the Oceanport Obsession, Red Bank Churro, Thorne's Treasure, and their very popular Peanut Butter Palooza. Alllll so good but my favorite was the Oceanport Obsession. The lady at the counter was so friendly and patient even with the huge line she had. She hustled it all herself. This Highlands locations is waaaaay smaller than the Middletown location but for some reason, I like it better. Much cozier AND ample seating. Street parking as opposed to Middletown's parking lot so pick your pleasure. Either way, I'm a fan! read more

I was craving ice cream after a long beach day and came upon Nicholas' creamery. It was a little hard to find walking up on the Main Street because the signage is flat, but I'm glad I found it. Very clean and bright inside, with many flavors to choose from. The texture and flavor was better than your normal ice cream. It was creamy and lasted for a while even though it was only a small cup. Absolutely delicious. The Millennial Chum and I stopped by this past Saturday afternoon on her recommendation after a nearby lunch. This is my kind of ice cream place - verging on hipster, with unique flavors that require an extra few minutes of hemming and hawing because there are tons of legit options. This was a rare instance where I was completely okay with there being a few customers in line ahead of us to give me more time to make a decision. There were a few strong contenders but I ultimately ordered one of their small batch options, Taliercio's Italian Cookie. I'd...make that a flavor year-round. I'm a big fan of Italian cookies in general (my favorite is probably the anisettes), and one of the main reasons is their emphasis on almond extract. I didn't notice or confirm any anisette cookies in there, but I'm pretty sure I spied and/or tasted a few rainbows and butter cookies. It's a great flavor, and the cookies tasted fresh. In my experience from getting, say, a cookie dough-type flavor, the only potential problem that can arise is if the cookies are stale or the consistency is off from the ice cream. Not here. Perfect and tasty. The Millennial Chum went with one of their "normal" flavors, coincidentally their version of the cookie dough with brown sugar, and was enormously pleased. One big caveat here - they ARE cash only and have an ATM on the premises. In fact, the initial reason we stopped here was because we planned to go to an estate sale and the Millennial Chum needed to use said ATM to ensure we had some viable legal tender for that event. We didn't end up even going to do that, but I'd say plan B was a lot better and more scrumptious. read more

My minor son worked this summer 2025 at this establishment. He never missed a shift, but requested a Saturday off during a holiday weekend. He put his shift up and told Jodie Edwards a co founder he had a family obligation for that day, he didn't give the details because it's personal. From where I come from a family obligation is crystal clear, you have a required commitment to your family that is non negotiable. What did Jodie do? In spite she took away his last shift of employment, the Friday before the Saturday he needed off, along with a sarcastic text message of "good luck to you" and dismissed him. PARENTS BEWARE... management knows that these 17 year olds come and go, so it gives people like Jodie Edwards license to treat them like crap... knowing full well she holds the power to do that, because they are minors. She could have been an example of what a good manager looks like, but instead docked him a days pay, dismissing him. The ice cream is good but know it comes at a price of management being really shitty to their minor employees, and her reputation of being a crappy boss proceeds her, it not just me saying so, but this is what happened to my kid. read more

I was very unhappy with my choice, the Hudson cafe coffee crunch had great flavor but it had coffee grinds in it which was very unpleasant. I did not realize it until I started eating it. I have had coffee ice cream of all types from a 1000 different places and I have never experienced coffee grinds in the ice cream. I cannot see how that would be enjoyable. Buyers remorse. Multiple people told me to come back and try it again that their ice cream is is excellent. The ice cream tastes totally different from when they first opened. It's FANTASTIC now! It's definitely in my top 3 picks for best ice cream in NJ, and believe me I just about tried almost everywhere! The ice cream was nice and creamy, and it had no artificial taste whatsoever. You can tell it's made with premium ingredients. Today I had the pumpkin cheesecake, peanut butter palooza, and chocolate brownie bake flavors. All 3 flavors were mind blowing good! I got 2 scoops one of espresso and one of mint chocolate chip (my 2 favs). I got to say this is some of the highest quality Ice cream I have had in a long time. The mint packed a punch, so stay away if you aren't a mint lover, for me it was a perfect balance, cooling for a humid summer day.
