Somehow, she managed to completely destroy the hem of my dress. The way it hangs now is an absolute disaster; it doesn't even resemble the original garment. The workmanship (if you can even call it that) is laughable. The seam looks like a toddler did it. Crooked, uneven, sloppy... it's truly astonishing how someone could deliver something so poorly done and call it professional work. And the final insult? She charged me $60 for this abomination. Sixty dollars to ruin a dress that cost exponentially more. To make matters worse, even the presentation was careless and disrespectful. When my husband picked it up, she didn't bother to steam it, or bag it properly she just threw it over a hanger like it was a rag. Zero care, zero pride, zero skill. I had a last minute alteration on a Friday, to a bridesmaid gown, which I needed that following Tuesday. After googling tailors near me, I came across Nice Alterations & Tailoring recommending that Helen was fantastic! The hem needed to be altered in the front only, and the fabric was somewhat difficult but Helen had me try on the dress and stated even though it was a difficult fabric it would be no problem and yes it would be completed by the same time on Tuesday. I paid $60, which may seem like a lot but is definitely not unreasonable as I was bringing this in incredibly last minute. Dress was ready as promised on Tuesday and was absolutely *perfect*. Will I be bringing back anything I need altered to her next time? Absolutely!!!! 10/10!! read more

I needed to get a silk skirt that was too big for me tailored, so I decided to go to Nice Alterations because it's close to my apartment. I was quoted at $35 for the alterations, and the lady that quoted me didn't mention that there would be any problems with my request. When I arrived back, the skirt had a seam on the side that was jagged and looked unfinished. I also noticed some puckering in the seam, as if it had been pulled unevenly. I pointed this out to the tailor, but she told me that I had brought it in like that. I pointed out the seam on the other side of the skirt and said that I had brought the skirt in with a seam that looks like that on both sides. She complained that silk was difficult to tailor, but she would fix it. I came back in when she had redone the skirt. Still, there was some puckering and unevenness even thought the seam had been fixed. When I pointed this out, the lady actually started yelling at me and complained that the silk was too difficult for her to fix. I told her that if she had told me that when I brought it in, I would have taken it somewhere where they knew how to work with silk. I said that if she couldn't do the job I wanted my money back. She refused and said she would fix it one more time even though I was causing her a lot of problems. I was surprised because I was doing my best to be respectful even though the standard of tailoring was so low and she kept yelling over me when I would speak. I came back in a third time and she had fixed the skirt so that there was less puckering but wasn't perfect. I decided just to take my skirt and be done because it was clear that she couldn't do a better job and wouldn't give me my money back. Consumer beware. This is not a reputable business. If you're expecting an expert tailor they will ruin your items and then blame you for their mistake. I'll give you 3 reasons to run! First this business is over priced. Second the turn around time is a joke. Third the quality is terrible. Upon picking up 2 items for travels abroad. One item was okay. The second item was a hot mess. A "tailored" pair of pants were fitted in the ankle to calf as soon as you hit the knee they bunched up like a trash bag. Sharing thoughts of the issue I was met with rude comments and being yelled at for their mistake. I was told to go on my travels and come back in a month when I returned. When they realized that wasn't going to happen they rushed me out to come back a hr later. Upon returning the item still was not to satisfaction but the fight wasn't worth it. It wasn't until I got home an truly inspected the work did I realize how botched my item was return to me. Issues were as followed: - Uneven seams - Bunching in the back side - Unfinished interior work - Uneven fit through out pants - Fabric left to bunch up on the leg instead of trimming for a tailored fit This tailor took an expensive pair of jeans and destroyed them. Once he was back, I was "amazed" what a horrible job with a ridiculously cost. They charged him $10 for the shitty job. They only sewed four freaking lines on the band which left the band still wildly open and unfinished just like how it was before. How can you charge someone $10 for this horrible job? I rarely write reviews but when a business is this bad and scamming customers, I feel compelled to warn others. I had a Friday wedding and received some dresses I ordered online on Tuesday. I was in a pinch as the dresses were a bit long and needed to be hemmed. I reached out to nice alterations and tailoring and spoke with a woman who stated she could hem both dresses by Thursday afternoon. I arrived to the business shortly after the phone call and tried on the dresses, and was pinned. I received a ticket stating that hemming for the two dresses would be 70$. The business owner insisted I bring cash and would accept nothing else. I arrived Thursday as planned (2 days later, March 30) to pick up the dresses. I paid the 70$ cash and headed home. When I was home I tried on the dresses and examined the work that was done. I was very disappointed to find out that my dresses were not hemmed, but the excess material was just cut. Realizing I had just paid 70$ to have my dresses cut and not hemmed, I was extremely frustrated. I did not ask for them to simply cut my dresses as I could have done that myself. As the ticket clearly states, I wanted my dresses hemmed. Now, as the wedding is tomorrow, I am forced to wear these dresses and hope nobody notices the shoddy work, the uneven cut and the cheap looking result I am left with. I reached out to the business shortly after seeing the work in hopes that it was just a mistake and the business owner would rectify the situation. I was disappointed when instead of an apology, I was met with hostility after explaining the product I received. I explained that I asked for both dresses to be hemmed, not cut only, and that 70$ is absurd for just cutting the material. I could have cut the material myself, I reached out to a professional business because I wanted my dresses hemmed. The business owner began yelling and refused to help the situation in any way. I am extremely dissatisfied with the service received and would not recommend this place to anybody. I was clearly quoted for a service that was not provided, and furthermore, I am extremely disappointed in the business owner's response. Paying 70$ to simply cut fabric, and not even cut it straight and even, is a complete joke. False advertisement. It is not right to scam customers like this. And what is worse, the business owner Helen became belligerent when I tried to explain the situation in a calm manner and reach a solution. Then as she rings me up she charged me 11$ without saying anything... I came here 3 times. The first two times it was to get slacks hemmed. She did a pretty good job and was relatively quick. The third time I brought some jeans. First, she used a method I felt she should have told me before she did it. She basically cuts the original hem and re-attaches it to the appropriate length you asked for. The problem with that is that it leaves an additional fold above the original hem line which can easily get discolored and show after a few washes. Luckily, I never really wash my jeans. 2nd, both jeans I took she cut way too short, even though she measured me. I had to give the jeans away because she could not repair them. When I complained, her only solution was that I should take them back to the store and tell them they came like that and they should give me an exchange. She showed no concern, nor did she make any attempt at customer service after a clear mistake on her part. This part upset me the most, and it's the reason why I will no longer give her my business. read more

Would not recommend this lady to my worst enemy. Came in to have several pairs of pants hemmed. 2 of them were faux leather pants. I asked before she did if she was able to do so and she said yes and even charged me $15 instead of her usual $11 for pant hemming. Came back several days later and she had sewn holes right through both pairs of pants. I went back and showed them to her expressing my concerns. She proceeded to say she would fix it which I didn't think was possible. Fast forward the next day she shows me the pants and lo and behold they still have holes. She proceeded to argue with me saying they' were holes just indents from the sewing machine. She also said I shouldn't have come to her shop asking for something so difficult because she doesn't have an industrial machine. I asked for a refund for both the pants and she only would give me a refund for one of the pants. I' didn't even bother asking for her to pay for the pants themselves. Wow! This place is awesome, the owner Helen takes pride and passion in her work. She tailored my suit perfectly for my wedding that just passed a couple weeks ago. And to top it off I lost a few more pounds "shred for the wed" haha cheesy I know, but she was still able to alter the sleeves right on time for my big day. I'm telling you she is honest and puts effort and consideration in her customer's request. Everyone at my wedding was complimenting my suit, figuring I paid about $1k on it cause it fit so well. I needed to get one of my new Calvin Klein suit pants altered. Relied on Yelp for a good alteration place. When I dropped the pants off, I was asked when I wanted to pick the pants up. I said I would like it in a week and would pick it up the following Friday before noon. It was marked on my receipt Friday morning pick up. I came back the following Friday late morning to pick up my pants. The owner couldn't find my pants. Then she tells me it was for Saturday pick up. I check my receipt and it clearly is marked Friday. She finally find my pants and it wasn't done! Then she says it'll be done in an hour. So I leave and do other errands. She calls my cell and leaves a message saying that she'll be gone for the shop and will return by 3:30. When I call her around 3:15 to see if my pants were ready, the owner starts yelling at me and says I told you one hour! WTF? Why are you yelling at me when it was clearly your fault for not having my pants finished as promised! I go back and pick up my pants. The Bitch doesn't even apologize for the inconvenience for me going back a second time in one day, nor does she say sorry for the misunderstanding! And no discount for her blatant mistake. Terrible customer service. Won't be coming back here again. read more

I researched this business and based upon the reviews .I left two brand new jackets to have the arms taken up by about two inches. To say that they were butchered is an understatement, the work was second rate, and shoddy . I picked up the jackets without trying them on as I was double parked outside. To be fair I also dropped off five pairs of pants to be taken up. This work was average at best. My impression is that they are good at women's dresses, but as far as men's clothes are concerned, they just don't have the skill set necessary to do a good job. Now I have to pay Nordstrom to try and fix these jackets which irks me to no end. Buyer beware, I just wasted $125 read more

It is suspicious how almost all of the reviews for this place mention "Helen" by name. This is uncommon in reviews and makes me wonder... Just to be fair, the lady is really nice like they say. The customer service is good, and my pants were done on time.... However - I brought in two pairs of men's dress pants to be altered, not just the length but the sides as well. When I picked them up they still looked too large and sure enough when I got them home they didn't fit any better than they did before. At first I assumed they actually just forgot to alter the pants but thought they did (an honest mistake). Except, upon closer inspection, one of the pants had a hole along the side now - NOT a hole in the fabric or anything, just unfinished stitching. So they had definitely worked on the pants. Anyway, the price was $24 per pair, for hemming and altering. I am disappointed and didn't really have $48 to throw away on this. I recommend comparing to other places in the area. It looks like they can at least hem things correctly, judging by all of the reviews by people who know her by name. read more

Ever since I've found this place, I've come here whenever I need alterations or repairs-- guys, no need to be shy about coming here, she does a fantastic job on men's clothes (and women's clothes too, judging by work my friends have had done there). "She", by the way, is Helen, an extremely friendly and pleasant lady who does all the work herself. Helen is truly everything you want in an alterations person: meticulous, creative, accomodating, and incredibly fast. Her prices are great too; you will easily pay a lot more for the same amount of work if you go to one of Long Beach's higher-profile alterations shops instead. Helen also does custom tailoring: bring her the fabric and a sample or photo, and she will MAKE you what you want! If you go (and you should), make sure you ring the doorbell if you don't see anyone inside. She's usually in the back working on some alterations. read more

I brought in a cotton sundress to have the skirt shortened and made a bit less full. The tailor lady pinned the skirt up rather hastily when I tried it on, but I figured she knew what she was doing. When I got the dress back, it was indeed shorter and less full, but now the hem slopes out in a very strange way and the skirt has almost a godet shape to it. Ugh. That's not what I asked for, not what I wanted, and it's definitely not cute! Now I've not only wasted the tailoring charges, but I have to ask myself whether to take it somewhere else and sink more cash into it or just cut my losses and waste the price of the tailoring and the price of the dress. Good ole Yelp for steering me toward another good local biz. I just needed some jeans hemmed and this place had the best reviews around, so off I went. I got there in the pouring rain almost close to closing--the lights were on but the doors were locked so I was afraid she'd closed early, but it turns out she has the door locked as a matter of course and you ring the bell to let her know you're there (something I didn't figure out til my 2nd visit, doh!). Anyhoo, the proprietress (I'm assuming she's Helen) was super-nice and and promised to have it done in a couple of days. Went to pick it up on the designated day and it was all bagged and ready to go. The hemming was $9 and it looks great. Granted, it's probably not the most challenging alteration job but that's usually all I need most of the time. A good reliable local biz, hooray! read more

If I had a sewing machine I would've gladly done it myself and it would've taken me a max of 30 mins because I'm not very experienced with sewing machines. But I knew it was a straight hem, I've done these before and it doesn't take that much time. I had to wait 5 days for the service. She didn't have to measure anything on me. No fitting was necessary.
