This business is an industrial processor of US and foreign made steel.
Working the steel, preparing it for various customers, makes for a lot of dust and dirt and grime. Everywhere inside the plant is evidence of the hard work that goes into making the steel bars that eventually get shipped all over North America.
Inside of the building is generally loud, dark, and definitely dirty.
This location is older and the layout seems to work. As a trucker, I deal with the outside yard and loading inside the building. The yard doesn't have much extra room and if another trucker fails to park to one side or another, there simply isn't enough space to pass by.
Similar for the loading bays inside the plant, they don't have much extra room for manuevering.
The steel bars I haul are round, square or hex shaped, usually around 12 feet long. They can range from lighly oiled, to well oiled and dripping. The company insists on wrapping the bundles of bars with vapor barrier paper/plastic, but the oil still gets all over the deck of my trailer, making for a slippery walking surface.
The loads are always ready when I arrive and the paperwork is complete. In that respect, they do a top notch job. read more
