I've never been here before and thought the sandwiches I got were pretty good. The bread was a mix of French bread (po'boy-like) and baguette. I thought everything tasted pretty fresh on a Saturday at 11am. The croissant looked a little dry but was so buttery that it was still soft. I don't typically see the French salami so that was exciting. Typically, if I'm in the area, I get Thang Hung's sandwiches, so it's nice to find another option nearby.

This restaurant never fails to amaze me with their amazing customer service, quality, food, and affordable prices. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area and don't be afraid to try something new.

nguyen ngoc has by far my favorite banh mi! what makes a good banh mi? it's all about that perfect combo of crusty baguette, savory meats, fresh veggies, and that hint of tangy pickled daikon and carrots. the bread here is super crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, and they don't skimp on the fillings. the balance of flavors is just spot on, with the right amount of pate, meats, and fresh herbs. it's a bit of a drive for me, but it's so worth it! it's located next to a gas station, and the inside seating is small, but i love eating my sandwich there in peace before continuing on my day. definitely a hidden gem!

This place has been around for six years but I'm just now discovering this hidden gem! Definitely gives off mom-and-pop shop vibes. The owner is a super sweet gentleman who chatted with us while we waited for our orders. I've been searching for a new regular place to get bahn mi and this just might be it. They have an option to get your sandwich on a croissant bun, which I had never tried before and loved! Not to mention the price is good for the size of their sandwiches. The rice cake omelette was cooked to perfection, I almost wish I had eaten it before driving all the way home. Lastly, the cafe sua da was pretty good! I usually don't get this type of drink because it's either too sweet or too bitter for my liking, but I think this one is a happy middle. It definitely gave me the caffeine boost I needed to make it through the afternoon!

I'll start off by stating that the staff were very friendly. No issues there. The ambiance was fine. It's a hole in the wall and there was actually a decent amount of seating available. The main reasons for my 3 star review are the following: - The bathroom was inconveniently out of order so I had to eat a sandwich without washing my hands. They did have hand sanitizer but it was obviously mixed with water or some other liquid to dilute it and it made my hands stickier than they were in the first place. The whole experience was a little icky because of that. I appreciate the dine in option, but you have to let people either wash their hands or provide a decent hand sanitizer that doesn't look super suspicious. And I don't like holding my pee while eating. This isn't NYC where a lack of public restrooms is expected. - The banh mi was good but not great. I could have used some more char on the grilled pork. The size was fair. - The eggrolls also tasted good but were the smallest ones I've seen in a long time. Just way too small and expensive. Don't get these unless you're just that rich. - Lastly, not a big deal but when I went to pay, the paper receipt had the check boxes for tip options and the lowest option was 20%. I don't mind tipping 20% which I did, but there was no table service, no water, and no bathroom. It's basically a takeout establishment. Also when you're done eating, you have to throw the food away yourself and I cleaned the table myself too. Chick-Fil-A provides way more service than this place and they don't expect a minimum 20% tip. Overall the food was good but I won't be going back because no bathroom or sink at all is just not acceptable at a food service establishment. And again, the staff were super friendly and competent. I wish them well.

I finally found a Croissant Banh Mi that doesn't BLOW So if you come with me, so to speak, I will SHOW You where it is, what to get, and then you will KNOW That the best Banh Mi in town is at Nguyen NGOC There's lots of great Viet places for you to GO But you need to come and try this place now, ALTHOUGH You'll die from pleasure like Jason Scott Lee did in the CROW Cause no Banh Mi is better than Nguyen NGOC So after you and I hook up in the CHATEAU With me and Barbie and your boyfriend as a COMBO Right in the middle of the AFTERGLOW Let's head out for Banh Mi at NGUYEN NGOC So good you'll cut your ear off like VAN GOGH It's so cheap, you can keep your funds in ESCROW Like Hailee Steinfeld, you can even come SOLO Cause no Banh Mi tastes as good as Nguyen NGOC WHAT WHAT to get: Croissant Banh Mi WHAT not to get: A Cross Ant. Angry ants can be scary. The battle for the best Banh Mi sandwich in Houston rages on. But as far as I'm concerned, it's over, because Nguyen Ngoc is the Nguyen-er. Get it. Get it. Absolutely incredible sandwiches, although I don't love the Vietnamese iced coffee here as much as I do at other places. These are some of the best Vietnamese sandwiches in town, and absolutely as good as the rival and former associate and relative at the other location which is on Bellaire. See, I have a big appetite, and a big C**K The kind that RHCP would cover with a SOCK And my body's owned by Barbi, she has it on LOCK And when we want Banh Mi, we come to NGOC Nguyen Ngoc serves spectacular Banh Mi on soft delicious Croissant sandwiches. You can get traditional bread if you like (and you should, because it's great), but their croissants are really really really good - and it works. They're spelled slightly differently because of massive family drama, but this place is one of the very best Vietnamese sandwich spots in town, and even though they have a lot of rules and are pretty anal retentive, and some of the service might rub you the wrong way, it's absolutely worth coming here for this little local family owned sandwich shop that makes some of the very best food in the city. Definitely one of the best sandwich shops in the city and easily a five-star destination. One of the best Banh Mi shops I've ever been to, anywhere. Make sure, if you're in Houston, you give it a try. Maybe I should just rap. So let me finish up with another fine FLOW I first tried this sandwich long AGO Barbie loves it from her pink hair to her pretty pink TOE There's no better Banh Mi than Nguyen NGOC So bring your fave girl, or your ma, or your BEAU And bring your main chick, or your fave side HO Settle down with a 'wich and a cup of Viet JOE Cuz the best Banh Mi in town is at Nguyen NGOC From Cypress, Spring, Tomball, it's just a stone's THROW And when you taste it you'll be like WHOA And it'll cost you hardly any of your DOUGH So come for Banh Mi with me at Nguyen NGOC So stop snorting the powder that looks like SNOW And forget Cali Sandwich (that stale meat THO) And don't touch me there, cuz you're making it GROW And come with me now for Banh Mi at Nguyen NGOC WHAT

My family always went to the banh mi shop behind this place but today I decided to cheat on them and tried Nguyen Ngoc. Pretty much I'm breaking up with the shop in the back because Nguyen Ngoc is where it's at!!! I've heard of croissant banh mis before but Yooooo, this is it right here. Going to base this entire review off of just that. Got the croissant with bbq meat and seriously, it was so good. Yeah I'm used to the banh mis on a French baguette BUT THIS CROISSANT DOEEEEEEEE! Mmmmmh okay so the croissant was crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, buttery with a hint of sweetness and a beautiful golden brown color. The grilled meat was seasoned perfectly and the freshly pickled veggies added a nice crunch. That's probably all the veggies I'm going to eat for the day, no lie. Added extra paté and butter and didn't even add an egg like I usually do to my banh mi because this was already rich and indulgent. Got the special combination banh mis on baguettes for my parents because they're basic. Didn't have to wait in a long line and prices aren't super expensive. Coming back to spend all my money.

There's quite a few Vietnamese sandwich shops in my area. I've tried most. This one is by far great quality! It is owner operated, great customer service! They even have a frequent buyers card, ask next time you are there. This shop also has choice desserts. Discounts are offered when you make it a meal: sandwich, chips and drinks. My favorite is the steak & eggs sandwich

Tucked away behind the Blind Eye of Hong Kong market is this little mom-and-pop sandwich shop that always sells fresh ingredients. The main sell here is the Vietnamese sandwiches along with a couple of small side items and your drinks. Owner is very very nice and willing to suggest anything to you if you are not well versed on what to pick out at a place like this. This is the equivalent of a Vietnamese Subway. Prices are a tad on the high side for the sandwich but this is nothing that was made yesterday. The seating inside you could probably fit maybe 25 of your friends that's probably it. Parking is a little tight when it gets busy but it's only the people that can find this place that would have a problem. Pick you up one of these sandwiches and a Vietnamese iced coffee, you'll love it here.

Ate here for lunch on Saturday. It was our first visit. It was located on the corner of a tiny shopping center. The restaurant is small; only three tables and some seats along the window too. It was clean and also had a few drink coolers against another wall. I ordered the BBQ pork Banh mi with a fried egg. We also ordered Bánh bot chiên (fried rice cake omelet)to share. The bánh mi was more a "traditional" sandwich then most places around. It was very tasty. My egg was cooked just right. My husband's egg was a little over done. (No runny yolk) My husband really like the flavor of his sandwich as well. Now on to the rice omelet. I love these things!!! They are simple but tasty. The one we ordered here was really good but a tad small. I think because they put it in a styrofoam container to serve it to you. It was yummy. Would definitely order that again. The only thing is for the size of it $6. was s little high. We would eat here again. (But we are never in that area) If you are; give them a try.

    Yummmm!

Their bánh khọt was crispy, sweet and savory, and went well with the fish sauce. Although the portions initally look small, they are very filling. The bò né was filling and sizzling when it came out. It also came with a side of salad. The meat was tender. I really liked the bánh khọt and would definitely come back for them. I couldn't have been more wrong. Xeo Yum (#1) as it turns out is one of the most legit Vietnamese places in Midtown serving up some of the city's best banh xeo and banh khot. Located inside of a Food Hall (#2) in the back corner, they have low-key become a destination and without question, the most popular stall in the entire place. The fan base didn't happen overnight but is a direct result of Chef Cuong Nguyen's commitment to quality Vietnamese fare. Banh Xeo is their signature item, which is also known as a sizzling crepe or pancake made of rice flour, tumeric, and coconut milk. The banh xeo holds well, is perfectly crispy, and is nicely stuffed with an assortment of beans sprouts, shrimp, and some of the best grilled pork belly I've had. Another specialty item that doesn't get enough mention is their banh khot, which is similar but has a mini muffin / cupcake like appearance made in a specialty cast iron mold. This version is wonderfully crispy and pairs perfectly with fresh greens and fish sauce with some funk. It is my favorite item here. Some have argued they also serve one of the best bo ne (#3), the Vietnamese version of steak and eggs served in a skillet. The chunks of beef are nice and tender with just a tad of char, served with two fried eggs, and a banh mi baguette with a mix of butter and spare. Normally I think of spam or sausage included with the meats, but Chef Cuong's spin is with cherry tomatoes. It's a different approach and I'm not mad at it. Folks not looking for this can shoot for bo luc lac, aka shaking beef, which is also recommended. The staff here is sweet, hard-working, and very friendly. They also make a mean Vietnamese coffee and offer free iced self-serve water. The prices are what I would expect in a Midtown food hall, and there's plenty of seating. Anyone checking out the food hall need to make Xeo Yum as part of their eating itinerary. __________ (#1) A play on the Vietnamese sizzling crepe, Banh "xeo" and yum" (#2) Previously the Conservatory and now Stestí Food Hall. When I arrived there was nobody dining in the restaurant, that was a bit worrying, but I figured it was a bit early for the dinner crowd and late for the lunch crowd. Food & Drink - 4.5* First up was the noodles, I enjoyed them, but I wouldn't say the hype I'd heard about from some others was there. They had nice flavor, but there just wasn't anything "special." 3.5* Then it was on to the crawfish, and my oh my. Superb, the flavor is delicious and unique. This more than made up for the noodles dish. The potato and corn was good too. Service - 5* Solid. When I first arrived the owner was quietly reading a newspaper and eating his own lunch. He paused to greet me and advised that I could sit anywhere. He provided water and adequate time to determine what I wanted to order. The food came out quickly and he checked in a few times to make sure everything was ok. As time went by, the crowd of folks showing up increased quite a bit and he still managed to check in on tables consistently. Pricing - 4* This is where it was odd. Always subjective but I found the noodles to be overpriced for not only the size but what I felt was a pretty simple dish. The crawfish on the other hand was priced very competitively and made up for the overpriced noodles. I provided pics of the menu for someone to make their own assessment but in general I thought many of the dishes were pricier than they probably should be. I know inflation is certainly killing many businesses and consumers but even these felt a bit off. Overall - 4.5* This is definitely going to be one of my go tos for crawfish when in the area. The flavor is fantastic, the pricing is good, the size of them were solid. There are a couple of other dishes I may try on the next visit. As they began their lunch and I was finishing mine, multiple staff members paused their meals to refill water check in, etc. for not only me, but the other few remaining stragglers of the lunch crowd. Huynh is every bit worth it. I will be back each time I'm in town

Overall, will definitely satisfy your craving for Viet food in Downtown. Ordered: - 95. Banh Cuon - Reminded me of the ones my grandma makes but with less meat in it. Not a big fan of the Vietnamese ham because it had some chunks of peppercorn but that's just my personal preference. - 73. Crispy Noodles with Seafood - Not usually a dish I typical order or care for. I was fine with it. - 57. Shaken Beef Rice - Beef was flavorful and tender. - Avocado Smoothie - Not much avocado flavor in my opinion.

I've been going here for several years, both in person and for take-outs, and they have never failed to impress me. I like to go here for late lunch or early dinner when the restaurant isn't as busy. The restaurant is in the same shopping center as the Chase Bank and Thanh Da Quan. Even though it's located on the far side of Chinatown near My Hoa Market, the drive is definitely worth it. The restaurant is small and well decorated, and the workers are nice. The dishes are a bit pricey compared to other Vietnamese restaurants for the portion size, but the taste and quality definitely make it worth it. Even my parents, who are super picky when it comes to Vietnamese restaurants, love the food at Com Nieu Houston. Like the name, most of the dishes here are in clay pots. Everything is always super flavorful and perfectly cooked. My absolute favorites are the Thit Ba Chi Kho To (caramelized pork belly), the Suon Non Rim To (braised spare ribs) and the Canh Chua Tom (Vietnamese sweet and sour soup with shrimps). I also really love their Com Chien Ca Man (salted fish & chicken fried rice), which I think is one of the best in town, as well as their Ga Kho Xa Ot (braised lemongrass chicken). The Ca Bong Lau Kho To (caramelized catfish) is my parents' favorite. Photos are from my most recent visit.

I took my parents here and we ordered the pickled cabbage w. chicken, the clay pot fish, and sour fish soup. It was really good and not heavy at all. I never had central vietnamese food before and never heard of most of these dishes. We saw that everyone was getting the three appetizer platter, bun bo hue, and had to try it. I also got the chicken vermicelli just as a classic. But every single item in the bun bo hue platter was jawdroppingly good. I never had anything like it before. I didn't know there were vietnamese dishes that utilized mochi flour and now I can never go back. Every single item was so good. The mochi was cooked so perfectly as every bite was so chewy and soft with no hard clumps at all. The meat that came with them as well were so sweet and tender. The vermicelli plate was awesome too as you can make a wrap with the lettuce and veggies and rice noodles and they all come together to mouthwatering perfection. I found a new spot to hyperfixate on whenever I come to houston.

My favorite appetizers (in order): Banh beo chen, Banh ram it, banh bot loc, egg rolls, crystal dumplings. Personally I wasn't a fan of the paste-y texture of the banh nam but that is a personal preference! Service is not the most hospitable but very quick. We were reseated after spotting a cockroach under our table. But even so I would come back to have this amazing food any day.

The service was good, the ambience is super casual but the menu was phenomenal. They had artichoke and salmon pho! I clearly love a good pho and I was all for it! It was a 10/10 full flavor bomb. recommend.

There is a mural of Vietnamese landscape and an aquarium of arwanas. We started with mango salad with grilled pork and papaya salad with shrimp. Both dishes came with sweet and sour dressing. Mango was sweet and grilled pork was yummy. Papaya salad was fresh and a bit more subtle. We also ordered the fresh spring rolls. The old Saigon rolls came with mango and pork. Always liked mangoes. The other was regular fresh spring rolls with shrimp. The rolls came out last after when we got our Pho. Would have enjoyed it more if it came after the salads. I ordered the combination Pho with all the ingredients (brisket, eye round, tendon, meatball and tripe)a. There is only one size. There was a lot of noodles for the size of the bowl. They were generous with the meat. Wish they would have more soup. The soup itself was ok. Thought it was a little bland compared to others. Service was quick. It didn't take long to receive our order. They offer reusable wooden chopsticks. Will plan to try the other dishes other than Pho like rice plates next time.

This is a higher end fine dining restaurant so you should expect the portion sizes and price to be pretty comparable to a lot of other finer dining restaurants. Overall the food's flavor was fantastic. I ordered the king salmon clay pot. I thought the salmon was so tasty! They added pepper and sauce to the salmon - It was tender and flavorful and paired nicely with white rice. The quail (not pictured below) also was super flavorful and was cooked so well it tasted like beef. The soup was also light and refreshing, similar to a west lake soup. It was thicker consistency and had cilantro and chucks of lobster. The drinks served were also super balanced. We ordered the mojito and the dragon fruit cocktail. The mojito was the right balance between minty and sweet with just a hint of alcohol flavor. For the dragon fruit cocktail, it was very fruity, on the sweeter side but not overpowering and was topped with egg whites to give it a little bit of frothiness. I will say, we are slightly underdressed to enter this establishment. Everything seemed so luxurious and many people were in formal business wear! Keep this in mind if you go! There is a parking deck right next to the location as well, both self parking and valet!
