Overall I give this a 5/5! So to remove some concerns from the beginning...yes, this is at and inside a gas station! Did I have concerns at first as well... yes! BUT did those concerns disappear after I pulled up, after I ordered my food, and after I absolutely devoured and digested that smash burger (my first smash burger )? 100% YES. I made sure to do my research: YouTube, TikTok, Google reviews... you name it! So when we arrived, it was literally in a gas station... and there was a line out the door! That alone told me something was up. My wife and I ordered the Double The Classics (Two 2.75 oz patties, Mt. Olive pickles, American cheese, French's mustard, Sassy Sauce on a Martin's Potato Roll) and the Sassy fries (thin crinkle cut fries deep fried in beef tallow with a dusting of Sassy seasoning and served with Sassy Sauce on the side). Let me just say this is easily one of the best spots! The Dunwoody location is a MUST visit. No seats inside, but there are some picnic tables out back or you can take it home... trust me, it's worth it either way. Trust me on this...burgers at a gas station like this?! GOLDEN. The owner of the store was on the radio yesterday (92.9) telling how he had won 1st prize at the Burger Mania competition in Miami. I had to be in the area this morning, so wanted to give it a try. The young lady taking the orders knew nothing about the win. As usual, parking at Avalon is a pita ( not the bread). I ordered the "Billy Special" double with no cheese and a side of fries. $14.25. Self-serve water to drink. I prefer thicker burgers less well-done, but the bun and sauce are tasty. Fries were under-cooked and not crisp. So a decent lunch but nothing really special. read more

I had previously visited the Dunwoody location but this was my first time at the relatively new location at the Avalon. First of all, it's great that they have a dining area in comparison to the picnic tables at the original location. It's also amazing that they have so many big screen TVs. I visited on a Sunday and they had almost all of the NFL football games on the TVs in the dining area. The burgers are really good. I ordered the single based upon my appetite, but apparently the most common is the double or the Billy's classic. The burger was juicy and very flavorful. I also ordered a tots which come crispy with a side of sassy sauce. The overall service is good. The order taker who greets you is relatively friendly, but the people behind the bar and the ones who bring your food continue to check on you and ask how you liked your meal. The service was fast and there was a lot of seating with TVs all around on the walls. Another social media hyped place I have been wanting to try, NFA Burger in shee shee Avalon was pretty good as far as burgers and hot dogs go. That's what I tried! This place is moderately priced and moderately hostile towards ketchup which cracks me up. The burgers were your basic smash burgers, simply dressed and well seasoned. A good burger should stand on its own hence the hostility towards ketchup. I get that. That hot dogs though! The one I got was the Southsider which was a Polish sausage simply dressed with mustard and raw onion. This dog had a kick to it which I loved!! The tots were tots and nothing special. I got the Sassy sauce which the greeter/ cashier couldn't describe very well. I'm guessing it was mayonnaise and ketchup and some spices. We really didn't get great service until we sat down and got our drinks. We weren't warmly greeted when we placed our order. I also wasn't sure how to get a refill on my soda. I guess I could have asked but it wasn't very clear and I didn't know who could have made that happen. My wife asked for just water and you had to get that yourself at the bar. (Weird) The place looked pretty clean, modern but retro and it had a full bar. I saw that the people who delivered the food were fast and efficient. Will I crave this place? Probably not. It was kind of an odd experience service wise. I just wasn't too sure how their type of service worked. The food was good though for burgers and hotdogs. I ordered a triple burger with turkey chili and grilled onions for which I paid extra. Burger was way too well done. They do not ask you how you want your burger prepared. Virtually no chili, onions or cheese on the burger. I asked a employee for more and he brought out extra chili and onions in very tiny cups. Ridiculous! First time at NFA burger and i really enjoyed it! The inside is designed like a sports bar, so its a cool casual place to stop by if you're walking around the Avalon. The smashburger was great and the tots along with the side sassy sauce were perfection! The staff was also very friendly and helpful, they constantly checked on us. My amazing son came to visit me from Massachusetts and requested his obligatory NFA burger as expected. I have been wanting to try their new sit down concept since it opened so I invited my best friend Matt to join us for his first NFA experience. This is my first time at this location. My previous experience was the one in Dunwoody at the gas station. Food - I ordered the double patty NFA Burger, the quality here is just as good as the original location, it has a crispy exterior for the smashburger, as well as the quality taste in the meat. The burger is 5/5. Also ordered the tater tots, it has a great perfect exterior crunch, but felt a little bit dry and over fried. 4/5 Service - 3/5 - I think that this place needs some reevaluation. The line very is long especially when you are waiting on a Saturday at peak lunch time in Avalon. The issue is that there is one line and that there is one register to take orders. That's not okay when you're waiting 30 minutes in line. Another issue is the the water, just as reviews have said in the past, they tell you that the waiter will bring out water for you but they don't and you have to ask them when they bring out your food. Next, the water cup is so small that after you finish your serving, you have to either ask the waiter to refill your water cup or go up to the bartender to refill it. If you're making it self-serve, you should have a water station to fill up your own cup. Otherwise have a larger portion size for the cups so that customers don't have to keep on refilling their cup. The food is great and I'll come back for it. But the logistics aspect needs some work. read more

So excited to see NFA opening up in a new location - this one will be right on the green next to the gelato shop, just as we were asking for more casual, easy food to be at the Avalon! Went on a Friday night with a concert on the green so the place was packed, took about 30-40 minutes to order but the staff were doing a great job controlling the line and making sure the kitchen wouldn't get overwhelmed. Food would come out pretty fast after ordering. Burgers were great if mine was a little on the done side but would definitely go back. Tots (and fries) are fried in beef tallow which gives it a bit of a deeper and different flavour than you'd probably be used to. Grilled cheese was fine, nothing special, but definitely hits the spot when we were looking for one. Prices are extremely good, $7-8 for a double burger, $5 for sides, beers are also $4-5 and seemed like everyone had a beer out on the green from here. Place has a good amount of tables inside, a bar top, and lots of TVs for a very casual feel. Maybe would have been more appealing to sit in on not as busy of a day. Second time at the location and had a good experience. Ordering was easy and quick to receive. Only thing I didn't like was they put the bacon on the bottoms bun and it constantly went everywhere. Ed have been to the original NFA Burger in Dunwoody and decided to give their new restaurant in the Avalon a try. Parking is either valet or metered parking on the street throughput Avalon. We parked and walked a block to Billy's new location. It was midway between lunch and dinner hour so there were none of the long lines to order that I had read about from other Yelpers. We placed our order and were given a number for our table. Our order was delivered quickly and all the burgers and fries/tots were piping hot and freshly prepared to order. My better half ordered a double burger and added chopped onions (a 75 cent up charge). I ordered an off menu item, a patty melt, that I have previously ordered at the original location. My patty melt was essentially a double patty with grilled onions and cheese on Texas toast. It was delicious and very filling. My better half ordered the tots which are served with Sassy Sauce on the side. NFA tots are the best and are cooked in Beef Tallow. The fries are sprinkled with a healthy dose of Sassy Seasoning (similar to season salt but spicier). Their fries are cooked in Beef Tallow and served with a side of Sassy Sauce. This new location looks like a Sports Bar inside with rows of Big Screen TVs across one wall and above the bar. They have 4-top tables and high top tables in the bar area. All the wait staff are dressed casually to align with the Sports Bar concept. All things Considered, I can certainly see why this restaurant gets long lines to order during peak hours at the Avalon. This location is an hour plus drive from our home so I will wait for the planned other NGA locations to open but the Avalon location is Great for those living in the surrounding areas. From the moment I walked in, the customer service was outstanding all the way until I left. I was hesitant to come here because I'd heard the lore! I had heard that the line was long and never moved and it is a challenge to get the toppings you want on your burger. But one day I was walking by and there was no line! So I decided today was the day to give it a shot - and I'm glad I did! The burger was phenomenal!! Probably my new favorite burger in Alpharetta. It is true that they are sort of weird about toppings (no lettuce, no tomato, they won't put ketchup on the burger, only American cheese...) BUT just order it as it comes and trust. It is SO GOOD. Came here for lunch on a weekday. The setup is a bit awkward. You walk in and the hostess podium is actually also where you order your food, take a number, and then get seated. I don't know if I missed the menus further back than the actual stand, but it was annoying having to decide what I'm getting with someone staring at me, and a line forming behind me. I got a standard burger and tots. The tots were perfectly crispy. The burger didn't seem special on first bite, but the deliciousness of a simple burger and how it all melted in my mouth was perfect, and I get why this place is so popular. The second I finished my burger, someone came asking if I was done. That was super annoying bc I had most of my tots still. After the third time being asked if I'm done, I gave up and left. NFA is considered by many to be Atlanta's best burger. Does NFA live up to the hype? Partially. Their smash burger delivers good flavor and juiciness, without dazzling. Their fries and tots hold their own but are not memorable. In terms of condiments, I really enjoyed their so-called "sassy sauce." One pet-peeve: if you want water, additional condiments, or napkins, you must flag the wait staff. I'm partial to the DIY approach that most burger joints employ; I'd rather just help myself to condiments, water, and napkins. We literally had to ask for extra fry sauce four different times. Final verdict: NFA offers good burgers. Perhaps verging on very good... I'd say 3.5 stars, so I'll round it up to 4 stars. But they are not the best the city has to offer. I've been wanting to try NFA burger since I kept hearing so many people rave about the original location in Dunwoody so I am beyond happy there's a location in Alpharetta now. I went opening weekend and the interior has a good amount of seating, and an expansive bar space. There is also limited outdoor seating. Both my husband and I got the classic burger as is and shared between fries and tots. The employee at the ordering stand was really nice and kept the long line moving efficiently. I also caught bits of other customer interactions with other staff and whom I believe was the manager/owner - everyone was so so sooo nice. The food came quickly after ordering. I enjoyed how the burger was cooked and seasoned but personally, I wish there were more veggies or an option to add lettuce and tomato to it. The mustard and pickles gave a good tartness to the overall burger. The size of the burger and quality is very reasonable given the price point. The fries and tots were both crispy and hot. We both preferred the fries slightly more because of the amount of seasoning on them. I would happily return here again to try other menu items. read more

If you know, you know and if you don't, then you absolutely need to. Billy Kramer brings NFA Burger to Avalon??!? This is a dream come true after years of driving to Dunwoody from Cumming to get this amazingly-simple smash burger that has set the standard for all other smash burgers in the ENTIRE world, coming straight out of a Chevron gas station. Now we get a Big Box version of this here in Alpharetta, and my friends it is 100% exactly what I was hoping it would be....it tastes exactly the same as the Dunwoody location. Exactly. Now you must understand one thing; Billy Kramer dipped out of a deal with Truist Park because he wanted his burgers to taste the same and they didn't because he wasn't the man behind the curtain pulling the strings anymore. That takes a lot of guts and shows a lot of integrity over something as basic as a hamburger, but this burger has actually been voted the best in Atlanta....years over. The care and commitment Mr. Kramer has to this newest venture shows. Now for the basics. It's a Day 1 review, so the space still needs work, but NFA is going to absolutely kill it. Located in the former Goldberg/Rinas space, there's a bar with a walk-up window great for the concerts on weekends, and for touring around Avalon with a cocktail in-hand. The bar will be something different since the other NFA is in a gas station. I'm excited to see this turn into something amazing, and look forward to its completion. In the mean time, the soft opening seemed to run smooth, and this place had a major line. Everything you want to see for a business owner who deserves this incredible level of success. It's Avalon, so parking is all over and it's located right on the square, so it's a great location to be in. I'll be here weekly, you can count on it. I have no doubt that this place is only going to get better and better and...it's already popular AF, and much-needed in the Avalon. The two times I've been here I ended up walking out because the line doesn't move. The lines haven't been too long but unlike, the gas station it doesn't move fast. Could be the staff or the customers who take forever to order. I'll stick with the Dunwoody location because they seem to have together there. read more

I waited this week til the lines simmered down.. being from California, now transplanted in ATL, I was wanting to check things out first hand. The service was good, very friendly staff still in training at cashier desk.. they eventually brought my food 15 min later while I was sitting down with another California transplant ( we always compare burgers to in & out) we both basically had the same thing: basic I meat burger, cold bun, cup of their signature sauce we both requested ketchup on side I had tater tots, he had fries both very tasty! There's no lettuce or tomato just pickles & spicy sauce .. it was 9$ and I gave 1$ tip. We were enjoying our food & server came by with another order of the same thing! A top 10 all-time burger! I had a double with no mustard, cheese, and grilled onions. The two tender patties had a crispy edge and came on a delicious, soft bun with a perfectly tangy sauce. So good! Don't ask for mayo. None in the store. But with the tasty sauce, you won't want it. My buddy said he'd pass on the fries next time as they were "eh". And I'd not have the chocolate shake again. I took it back and didn't even get my money back when I exchanged for a regular bun. The restaurant is nice and service was cool but burger was bad and not a lot of selection.
