While overseas, I had a handgun I ordered on Gunbroker sent to NFA Arms. I figured that, since I had an Ohio driver's license and since the military still considered me an Ohio resident, I could pick up my handgun in Ohio, right? Well, I was wrong. Long story short, I should have sent my gun directly to my next duty station in Georgia. NFA Arms could not transfer to me my handgun in Ohio- which I had no issue with. But then, Max insisted, he would not ship directly to my next FFL. Max insisted he would only return it to the original FFL who could then send it to an FFL at my next duty station (which would cost me twice as much money). Though it was not listed anywhere on the website, Max said this was his policy. Max would not let me pay the shipping directly, so I left for Georgia and contacted the original FFL so that he could handle it. Max intended to have the original FFL charge me $78 first class shipping (when the original shipping was only $25) for the return, and then proceeded to tell the other FFL that he did not want to sell to me because I was "suspicious" and advised him not to deal with me. Thankfully the original dealer helped me through this and did not agree to $78 return shipping. So, I emailed Max and let him know I was only going to pay for him to send it directly to my FFL in Georgia. Only after advising Max that I was going to seek legal action did he finally return my pistol, which he did on $12 shipping back to the original FFL. Moral of the story, instead of going to Max for those $10 transfers, pay a little more and go to a legitimate gun shop if you want to ensure your gun is not held hostage to Max's made up "policies". read more
