Do not rent from this company! They are scammers! This is an update on my previous review. After 6 months of trying to get my $250. refund for a double charge, Rashon L. (Apperant business owner), told me to try again. He seems to be telling others who are having this issue the same thing in answer to reviews. I did try again. After telling the person who answered the call redirected me to Customer Service. While on hold for 30 minutes, it went from 8 callers ahead of me to 2 callers ahead of me. Then there was a click and all of a sudden there are 7 callers ahead of me. Finally there were 0 callers ahead of me but, " there is no one to take my call"!!! I call back immediately and am told they will not issue my refund because Nextcar told my bank that there were two different confirmation numbers so they would not issue the refund. My bank could do nothing more than give a chargeback. We had the absolute worst experience with NextCar and will NOT ever use them again in the future nor do we recommend them. First of all, the car rental location is not at the airport. We had to take the airport shuttle bus to the car rental center. Next, we had to find the signs for the Offsite rental car and county bus. Then, we proceeded to bus stop 7 and awaited for the One Switch Shuttle bus. This was a long process in and of itself. There was only one driver driving back and fourth from the location. When we finally arrived at the location, the line was wrapped around the building. We waited almost 3 hours (most of it in the hot sun) to get our car rental. By the time we got our car, half the day was blown. When we got to the counter, we were bombarded with hidden fees. I was told I would have to pay $14.38 per day (times 6 days = $86.28) + $93.64 in taxes and fees. I was required to pay the $86.28 at the time of booking and the $93.64 at the counter. I thought my grand total for the car would be $179.93 since their whole website boasted about no hidden fees. Such lies!! Although I purchased their collision damage plan, I was told it was mandatory to purchase third party liability insurance for $19.99 a day. This came out to an extra $119.94 for the 6 days. Additionally, I was told I would need to purchase a Tolls Activation or face fines for EACH toll violation. This was $10.99 per day or $65.94 for the 6 days. Lastly, they required a $500 deposit which they don't mention on their website. They also charge you a fee to pay with a debit card rather than a credit card. This company is run by thieves. Very unresponsive I made a reservation with my family and we were late due the shuttle and airline and when we arrived at the Hollywood location (Florida) they cancel it due to late which they call it no show, but the reservation was already cashed and my vehicle rented to someone else. Oh where do I begin.... DO NOT RENT FROM NEXT CAR!!!!! I booked a one day rental that was meant to be $63 per day, with taxes and surcharges it was meant to come up to $84 per day. I had to get the insurance through them that was $32 a day. My total ended up being $140 for the one day rental. I didn't think anything of it and figured they rounded it up with fees and stuff and used my debit card to pay for it. I was charged a $490 deposit. Mind you I rented the Compact car which was a Hyundai Elantra...was confused why the deposit was almost $500 but again, I didn't think anything of it. I was meant to return the car at 1:45pm the following day. I called and asked if I could return the car a bit late as I was in DC and there was traffic and that would've prevented me from getting back to BWI by 1:45PM. I was told then by Pam Jackson that told me that because I booked thru Orbitz there was no grace period and if I don't return the car by 1:45PM I would be charged for a full day and my rental for one day would cost me $315. I was upset but told her I was on my way and would do my best to get there on time. As I stated there was heavy traffic from DC to BWI and I called her and told her my GPS said I would be there by 1:57PM. She told me that as long as I showed up by 2:00PM there would be no charge. I eventually got there at 2:03PM and called and she told me that the system would not allow her to receive the rental without charging me a full day. My fiance was on the other side of the garage waiting to pick me up and when I told him what she said he went inside to speak with her. The manager Pam Jackson was extremely rude with him and began yelling and being aggressive with him. SO he called corporate and explained to them the situation. They informed him that the reason they charge the full day is because the full coverage insurance I got only serves for 24 hr periods, but the car rental itself is done hourly. The customer service agent informed us that we could cancel the rental but would still be charged for the $32 for the insurance for the day, which we agreed to pay. $32 was better than being charged another 140 for the day when we were 3 mins late. He went back inside to inform her of what corporate said, Pam got so irate and said she wasn't refunding anything. We called corporate back and they basically said that the manager has the final say so we basically were going to be charged the additional day. Needless to say I was upset but I decided to keep the car for the additional day since I was already being charged. She told me I was being charged $315 total for the two days for a HYUNDAI ELANTRA! I returned the car early the next day and the drop off attendant said he would email me a receipt. I checked my banking app and saw that I was charged an additional $176 dollars. I was told that my $315 rental fee was going to be taken out of the $490 deposit I left. Now I was charged and additional $176 for all kinds of crazy fees that I don't understand. Altogether I was charged $666 for this rental..,if that is not a sign not to do business with them I dont know what is. LOL! We rented a 'luxury' car online via Priceline and when we finally got to the rental site (had to wait over an hour for the shuttle), we were told they don't offer luxury cars. They still wanted to charge us luxury prices for a midsize car. Not to mention they require all US customers to pay some weird random tax of $40ish a day. They also had some other weird charges. They were rude and unhelpful. I had never heard of NextCar car rentals. It came up on my Google search when I was searching for a rental in Maryland. I was a little nervous but the price was good so I went for it. When I arrived at the counter I had to wait about 10 minutes before someone came to help me, which had me slightly agitated since I've been traveling for hours and was ready to go to my destination. When I explained to the supervisor of my wait he went above and beyond to make it up to me. He gave me an upgrade and didn't charge me for the extra 2 hours I was going to have the car when I dropped it off the following week. Now that is excellent customer service! I rented a small Hyundai. This little car is deceiving. You look at it and think it's going to have no power. It had more get up and go than my Altima. Everytime I fly from LAX to BWI, which is often, I chose NextCar. I appreciate the speedy (express) service and good customer service. The cars have always been clean, full of gas and the prices are honestly always the cheapest in comparison to the others there. Most recently when visiting, I was greeted and helped by Pam. I was visiting for a funeral and just having a hard flight in, she really made the "rental car experience" better. Quick service, friendly and just overall nice. I was discriminated against because I am a black man and I am renting in Baltimore I had just arrived from Los Angeles made a reservation over two weeks before I brought three forms of proof of residence my drivers license my ID card credit card and still was denied a rental and full coverage insurance as well. Two thumbs up, outside car guy!! *The guy who printed our receipt was friendly and smiled. *The car had four wheels and did car-ish things like driving, parking, and playing music. THE CONS *Our "guaranteed" reservation made online was not honored, despite having a hard copy of the reservation details, including reservation number. *We were charged more than our reserved price for a car with fewer features (eg sans sunroof) and worse gas mileage (ie non-hybrid). *The unlisted fees are ferocious! Almost $200 in miscellaneous fees (nope, I'm not including the $100 security deposit, the car insurance, the extra driver fee, nor the taxes in that) *The welcome staff were rude. *The welcome staff were rude. (Yes. I typed this twice. It needed to be typed twice. Somehow they missed the "service" part of their "customer service" job description.) I don't have time to tell you all the details that build a picture of a poorly managed business. From driving for *20* minutes to figure out how to get out of the lot, to empty wiper fluid, to having a former customer come up to the (empty) desk and tell us "These guys are great. I always use them." and then go rent from their competitor a counter over. Corporate claims that Fort Lauderdale is privately owned. So I finally get a human being on the line. They said we could have fixed it on Monday. The entire car rental experience was egregiously terrible. The car renter was not in the airport and only had one shuttle and refused to take our whole party of 8 who had to stay at the airport with heavy bags (on a ski trip) to wait for the single shuttle to return. As the renter and driver, I went along with the shuttle arriving at a shoddy office building literally underneath a bridge. I commenced my 20+ minute wait for a representative only to be informed that I had not paid on my reservation even though a charge was already posted on my credit card. Without options, I paid the price and waited another 30+ minutes for the car to arrive. The entire operation seemed understaffed and extremely unprofessional - no one gave us any indication of where to go other than to stand outside in the Vancouver winter alongside other duped-renters. If all's well that ends well, then truly nothing went well when the car they finally tried to give to us was a 5 seater even though we had rented a 7 seater. After a back-and-forth, I refused to take the smaller vehicle and had to wait another 10+ minutes for them to find a bigger car - in this case, an older 4runner. At least my hour-long wait was also the time that it took for the shuttle to finally fetch the rest of our group from the airport 5 minutes away. If I could give them less than 1 star I would. First, the staff did not walk me through the contract at all and you must sign once and then they add your signature to the rest of the contract. They made me use my own insurance but then did not allow another person, even though covered under my insurance to drive the car. They charged me a $100 fee for my husband having driven the car around the block to the return location- after watching me drive it into their lot. Both interactions, both when picking up the car and dropping off, were with two employees who were much more interested in their phones then me. When I dropped off the car, they did not walk around or look at it or anything. Actually I don't even think the gentleman looked at me at all. Next thing I know, I was sent an updated contract with an updated amount of over $500. They charged me for smoking in the car!!! I don't even smoke, nor does my husband- who's father just died of cancer!!!! I work in healthcare and was APPALLED by the accusation and the $500 charge!! I called to speak to a manager whom I had to call SEVERAL times because she did not have the decency to return my call. When I finally got her on the phone, like her staff members, she shrugged it off and told me there was nothing she could do and the smoke fee was non negotiable. She told me that the staff member who inspected the car upon drop off notated that my boyfriend was smoking when he pulled up! I told her to look at the cameras because that's a bold face lie. I had used the car to go to my father in laws funeral in DE and after pleading my case and explaining time and time again that there was NO WAY they smelled smoke in the car, she basically told me to go F myself. She told me her name in case I wanted to try and call someone else-but good luck with that. So for everyone's knowledge, Pam Jackson, the manager of the Hanover location at the airport, is a nightmarish woman who has no sympathy and will rob you blind. I was absolutely taken advantage of here. I think she should consider that her employees may have smoked up the car because how dare she accuse me. I have disputed this through my bank and the investigation is underway that they have stolen from me. NextCar are thieves. Beware! They will "skin you alive" if they have an opportunity to do so. My flight was delayed due to emergency landing and even though I tried calling their customer service for 30 minutes from Atlanta (place of emergency landing) to let them know I was going to be late, I was put on hold (standard thing with this establishment) and never got to talk to anyone. Upon arriving at Orlando at 11:30pm with two small kids I called to let them know that we landed and ask for a shuttle bus which they promised to arrive in 15 minutes. We waited an hour and got to their rental location around 12:30am only to find out our reserved compact car rental ($350 for 2 weeks) was not available due to the fact we missed our pick up time (9pm) and didn't notify them. Had they told me that when I talked to them while requesting the shuttle van I would have simply gone to one of many car rental companies right at the airport. To add to an insult to an injury they offered "the only vehicle they had available", which was a large SUV for a total price of $857 for 2 weeks. They also forced me to use their insurance even though I had my own (no other car rental at the airport does that). The only reason I even agreed to sign the contract on the small screen pad their counter rep handed me was because my two kids were completely exhausted and I wanted to get them to bed. When the rep handed me a hard copy of the contract (already with my signature on it) I got another big surprise. The total price was $857 plus the $350 I already paid in advance for our reservation. I immediately asked him to cancel it to which he replied that he was not authorized to do so and only the manager (who was already gone) could do so. Therefore, he told me to come back next morning and speak to the manager and possibly get a smaller vehicle. I reluctantly agreed. When I came back the next morning I was told that the manager was not working because it was Sunday and was told to come back the following day. When I came back the following day I finally spoke to the manager, who informed me that there were no vehicles available and reluctantly agreed to give me approx. $200 refund, while also promising to get me a smaller car after 1week of rental. When I came back a week later I was told again that no cars were available and that I could call customer service to get further refunds. I, therefore, tried calling them numerous times only to be put on hold for hours and never being able to speak to any live customer service rep. Finally, I gave up calling and returned the vehicle two days later (4 days earlier than my contract stipulated).When I asked for credit for all unused days I was told that I was liable for the entire length of the contract and that was it. During all of this ordeal I witnessed many more people coming out of that establishment fuming over the same shameful practices that were administered on me and my kids. I am an experienced world traveler who has rented dozens of cars around the globe, so I know a thing or two about the travel industry. This was by far the worst experience and company I have ever booked through. My experience: Upon entering the doors to their off site location to pick up my rental, I was greeted by a room full of frustrated and irate travelers. After waiting in line and making it to the counter, I understood why. I checked in and moments later the gentleman at the counter told me that they didn't have the car for my reservation. I asked what cars they had left and he responded with "none". When I inquired on how to get a refund he told me that he could just make me a new reservation but couldn't guarantee me the same rate and I had to request a refund online for my original reso. I played along and asked what car he had for a new reservation knowing very well that this was a scam I was taking my business elsewhere. He tried to give me the exact same car for nearly 4x the price! Didn't he just say he was out of cars 30 seconds ago.... I took the shuffle back to the airport, booked a car with Budget on the ride, and was in my car 10 minutes later. Budget also upgraded me for free after hearing about my troubles. Upon pick up, the card strongly smelled like smoke with air freshener to disguise the smell. The driver's drivers seats were incredibly stained and the card was filthy. The car was returned on the morning of 7/22 with the attendant completing the vehicle inspection, stating the car looked good, including an inspection of the trunk. When I returned home, I received a text stating there was a wheel issue, appearing to have hit a curb. Damage such at that would be evident immediately upon the return inspection. We assumed their lower prices for a one week rental in Orlando was because we would have to take shuttle to off site location to pick up the car. We were so wrong. Unprofessional for starters. The 2 clerks at window were evidently in middle of story when we arrived and couldn't decide between helping us or continuing their conversation. But besides that, a very loud verbal argument was going on outside between 4 male employees. We had to then wait for our car until they finished their argument and went to get our car, take photos, etc. No one said anything to us as we were handed the car keys finally. At check in, I learned the real reason why their prices online are so much less. They try to add everything they can at the counter. I had to go in depth showing I had sufficient insurance without buying anything new. (I have now noticed online others were not as fortunate so maybe it was a good thing in this regard the agent was too occupied with her ongoing conversation. However, she did blatantly lie and said that all the Florida highways are tolls roads so it was suggested we pay the $13/day prepaid tolls for unlimited daily use. We traveled every day (some days only to the amusement parks but other days to Tampa and the beaches) and the ONLY days we would have incurred any tolls would have been the days going to and from the rental car agency. The road they are on is toll road and I saw signs for other toll roads buy we would have probably incurred $20 MAX for tolls had we paid on our own. As soon as I realized this (2nd or 3rd day of rental), we started trying to get in touch with someone at the company to discuss. That was another problem. They offered online chat and they referred me back to a phone number. When I FINALLY was able to speak to someone (I pushed "1" for English but he didn't speak English), I was told it couldn't be changed even though I had been lied to. TERRIBLE!!!! This would be officially my first bad review but if this can help other people here we go... I had rented cars many times before I never felt so stolen as with NEXTCAR. I rented the car by Priceline and it supposed to be the cheapest car (8.55$/day), I added the only full cover collision insurance which was offered on the Website and supposed to be cheapest if u get it online(11$/day), I took it. In total I was getting a car for 19$/day. TOTAL 119$x6 days. (Photo attached) Once I arrived to the counter they took my my documents, they asked me to show them the proof (receipt) that I had payed for the insurance (they couldn't check it online), once I found through the app my payment and showed it to them they told me that I had to pay for another insurance which was OBLIGATORY and it cost 20$/day plus a couple more of random stuff added (photo attached), plus the toll (high way) I had to take and they charge extra money for paying the toll, since you can not pay by yourself anyhow because is their car no any other option but paying it extra. Terrible, terrible, terrible. The rental car was not in the terminal, as advertised. They requested a non-refundable payment. Then I got stuck with many one-off charges. And three weeks after my rental I got another bill for $70 for an alleged violation that contained no details! Whatever I saved on the base price, I lost twice as much due to the additional charges. Nextcar literally scammed us! We booked and there was no note or policy about making sure you picked up the car on time or it would be cancelled. When our plane landed I got a text message that said I had two hours to pick it up. Okay, not cool but we can do that. By the time we got all the way to their counter off the airport grounds it was about 1.5 hours, well within the two hour time frame they gave us in the text. The person at the counter said it was actually one hour that we had and our reservation had been cancelled. I am trying to get my money back from the company I used to book the reservation. We had a reservation at Nextcar 7440 New Ridge Road, Baltimore for last Saturday, September 25 until Oct 1, 2021, our international flights were delayed and after a long journey we arrived at the customer desk after midnight to pick up the car to continue our trip another hour and a half to our final destination in West Virginia. At the time to process our reservation, the clerk requested a credit card deposit to secure the vehicle as normally happens in these cases. For that purpose, as international visitors in the US, we offered 4 different European credit cards that she refused, two because she was unable to recognize the issuing Banks and the other two because for her, the card holder name was not completed showed on the car (Spanish surnames are much larger than in the US and the cards do not have enough room to write them completely!). It is clear that the clerk has not received the appropriate training to be able to deal with international travelers or recognize a proper solid credit card. She was limited to "Google" the bank name on the card, and inaccurately concluded that our cards were provided by an electronic bank or so. She refused to try any of the cards, also to return the money (we paid in advance through Expedia), and we were forced to take an Uber car to West Virginia at 1am. We are still using that same transportation means as our arrangements were frustrated by Next Car. We were not notified by Expedia that we needed an American card to leave a deposit otherwise we wouldn't have made the reservation nor the payment. At this point after so much inconvenience, we lost the full amount for the week we paid to Next Car via Expedia plus the extra expenses we have been forced to make with Uber during our business trip as per the failure from Next Car to recognize a proper Credit Cards. I got to Fort Lauderdale on a Friday night about 11 pm and I had a reservation with this crappy company. I went ahead to the office to get "my car", I had to wait in line for an hour to found out my license was expired so since I had a copay with them I asked if they could make a new reservation under my husband name. They denied it and no only took my money but I had to go back to the airport to find a car at 2 am was the time I left their office. They cared less. I would not recommend this company since I also witnessed how they were trying to get people to purchased the very expensive car insurance with them when you could use yours. They have so many excuses to no give you a car for cheap. Their prices online are a ripoff. Do not believe it or waste your time going there. They will try so hard to try to sell you their insurance or you won't get a car with them. read more

SCAM!!!! DO NOT RENT FROM NEXTCAR. SCAM!!!! I booked through priceline and was quoted $225 for a 6 day economy car rental. When I got to the counter I had to pay an additional $396 for insurance. I could not use my own insurance as it was "not good enough" You need at least $300,000 coverage. I couldn't cancel at this point since you have to cancel at least 8 hrs in advance. I was not the only unhappy customer that day. There must have been at least a dozen of us with the same issue. There was not a single customer that walked away from that counter happy. Regarding my car rental in Orlando From NextCar Priceline Trip Number: 436-901-823-45- . Worst car rental experience ever. First time in my multiple local, national and international rental experiences that my own rental car insurance rider insurance was not accepted. They did recognize my credit card collision insurance coverage but still charged me $111 for liability for one week. The vehicle was a mess. Upholstery was dirty and almost threadbare. Interior trim was marked. I had to have the tire pressure checked as the warning light was on. All tires were highly over inflated, tread was about at the wear bars and the sidewall of one tire was torn making it dangerous to drive. They would not allow me to use my own Sunpass transponder. Mandatory to use the EZPass they had glued to the windshield, at a cost of $14/day.. I declined and avoided tolls but it was a pain. Never encountered this with any other rental agency. Base price looked almost too good to be true. It really was. Any time they come up on a Priceline search they should be flagged with a warning to beware read more

Put this company out of business. The company is pure garbage. I reserved early to assure I had a car. This trash company only holds your reservation for one hour. That's right! One! Hour! If your flight is delayed, trouble getting from the airport to the offsite location, or any other of the innumerable possibilities, your rental car may be gone. read more

We had rented a car in Baltimore the pick up process was fine we go the car all good. Day of return however we had a hard time locating a gas station near by and due to heavy traffic we were running late for our flight and had to turn the car back in with 4gals less of gas. I expected a fee and more expensive fuel cost than at the pump. However reading the contract they emailed me after the fact they charged the 7$ fee and then charged for 21gals of gas at a higher rate than what was on the contract. Sent an email complaint, and I plan on calling a complaint when customer service opens up but this is horrible buisness practice. If the contract says I would have to pay an estimated refuling fee based on fuel cost of 4.75$ per gallon plus a 7$ refuling fee that is what I expect to pay. I will never use this service again. read more

I would give a zero, but since you can't I will go for 1. Never have I seen a business so bad at its business it has to make rules so they make money. Very shady, how can you make a 2 hour window to pick up your car after your time when planes cancel all the time. Or at least put it in big letters when you purchase the rental.
