This is my go-to barbershop since moving to Houston last year. They go above and beyond to make sure their customers are satisfied.
First off, the shop is clean, modern, and has several screens to watch while sitting in the waiting area. The barbers always offer a bottle of water if you have to wait.
There are a number of workers on a daily basis which means they have open spots for walk-ins. If there aren't any walk-ins available, they'll get you set up with an appointment. Last week, they had no spot open for me when I walked in, but they set me up with a 7pm slot even though the shop closes at seven. The barber stayed late just so I could get a cut.
Turns out he was one of the owners of the shop and did an excellent job. I found out through him that they have more than one location.
Every-time I go, I always have a pleasant conversation with the person cutting my hair. They also tend to remember me when I return after months of letting my hair grow long and shaggy. This adds a nice personal touch to the experience. I have yet to encounter a rude or unprofessional barber at Next Up. Sadly, my main guy Damien now works at the other spot, but all the other workers do a great job too. Frida is another one that I highly recommend, she is nice and does a nice fade.
The clientele is very diverse. No matter what type of hair you have, Next Up can accommodate you.
I recently bought styling powder during my last visit. My barber explained the product to me, styled my hair with it, and gave me tips on how to style my hair. The product is called L3 Styling Powder and I've been using it everyday.
Besides the hair cut, I also recommend a shave and trim. They take good care to pamper you with hot towels and precise shaving. They add lotion and aftershave for a refreshing and clean feeling. I never have bumps or irritation afterwards.
A hair cut is $30 dollars, I forgot how much they add for shave and trim. The hair styling powder is got was $20, but it seems to last for a while. Like I said, I use it everyday and it still feels like a full bottle.
I generally get my hair cut during a week night, so I'm not sure how busy they get on the weekend. I do recommend making an appointment even though I also just show up. Each barber has their own business card they'll give you so you can easily see their info and schedule with them if you like your cut (which I bet you will!).
I also see a lot of children getting their hair cuts here, so if you are looking for a place that is good with kids, this is the one. A lot of the barbers are bilingual (English/Spanish).
My hair cuts usually take about 25 minutes, which is pretty standard, but definitely faster than some places I've been to in the past. They take their time to do fades and let you check your cut before it's done. Last time I decided to shorten the top more than what I originally instructed, and he did it with no fuss.
You can tell these barbers take pride in their work, and I highly recommend Next Up to anyone looking for a good hair cut and a pleasant experience. read more
