I rejoined this gym after a brief hiatus on thje cape. It is spacious but unpretentious here but…read moreit still offers every type of weight equipment immaginable and there is a normal distribution male and female members.

I was hesitant about writing this review, but I think it's important to share an honest experience…read more Lighting: The lighting throughout the gym is very harsh--extremely white--and combined with the white walls, it creates an uncomfortable environment. Lighting in a gym isn't just aesthetic; it directly affects safety, performance, mood, and the overall workout experience. Equipment Condition: A significant amount of the cardio equipment is not functional. It's frustrating to see equipment moved from the old location to the new one without being properly repaired. Many machines are in poor condition and need maintenance or adjustment. TVs: All the TVs display the same content, which feels repetitive and uninspired. It would be a big improvement to include a variety of options like music videos, workout-related YouTube channels, educational fitness content, or even news. Music: The music selection is consistently heavy metal, which may not appeal to everyone and can be demotivating for many members. Music plays a major role in workouts--it boosts performance, increases motivation, reduces perceived effort, and helps maintain focus. A mix of genres like EDM, house, pop, and remixes (typically in the 120-140 BPM range) would create a more inclusive and energizing atmosphere. Warm-Up / Stretching Area: The stretching area is too small and cluttered with unnecessary equipment. It would benefit from better organization and the addition of useful items like resistance bands. The current layout negatively impacts the overall experience. Safety Concerns: The hallways leading to the bathrooms are overcrowded with equipment and tools, making the space feel unsafe. In the event of an emergency evacuation, this could become a serious issue and would likely be flagged during a safety inspection. Functional Trainers: Many of the cable machines are in poor condition and need maintenance. Some have uneven cable resistance or mismatched thickness between sides, which directly affects workout performance and balance. Bathrooms: Basic supplies like paper towels are often missing. Additionally, signage encouraging proper use (e.g., not disposing of gum or trash in urinals) would help maintain cleanliness. Water Access: There should be a proper water dispenser for filling bottles. Relying only on water fountains is not practical for members during workouts and doesn't meet basic expectations for convenience. Front Desk Staff: The front desk staff could significantly improve their attitude. They are often not welcoming, which sets a negative tone from the moment you walk in. As the face of the gym, they should create a friendly and professional first impression for members. Overall: The gym has lost the strong bodybuilding atmosphere that made the previous location stand out. Right now, the experience doesn't match expectations. I would recommend management visit facilities like Mass Underground or Olympus Gym for inspiration on layout, equipment quality, and overall environment. At this point, I'm seriously considering canceling my membership

I started here almost a month ago. I have been a member of various gyms over the years, have done…read moreboot camp, have had a personal trainer. But this time around, ,I was really looking for something different. My sister in law had done this program at another location and had great results. I talked to her beforehand, so I knew the pricing and how the program worked before I made my initial appointment. I can honestly say that this is one of the best places I've worked out. Is it huge? No. Does it have all the amenities of a big gym? No. But to be honest, what I needed was someone to push me a little harder, get me on the right track and hold me accountable. And I needed to feel comfortable. I get all of the above at GISFW in Braintree. After reading reviews on other locations (which I looked at before I joined) I realize that your experience can really vary depending on the staff. Now that I'm a member, I can say that the staff is probably 75% of the reason why I'm happy here. They make me feel comfortable, they know me by name, and they push me, which is what I needed. Nikki, Gina and Tomaso are all really good trainers. And Maria (who owns it) is always smiling and helpful. You know she cares about her clients. Can I do this type of program on my own (30 min strength/30 min. cardio) and follow the nutrition guidelines they gave me? Sure. But I honestly know that it wouldn't be nearly as effective and I wouldn't stick with it so consistently unless I was here. The location is convenient for me. Parking can get a little tight on street but there is a municipal parking lot just down the street. Overall, I can say that I have no regrets!

I took one of Helen's HIIT classes at Athleta in Dedham one early Sunday morning with a group of…read morefriends... And it was totally worth sacrificing sleeping in-- it was grueling, fun, and set a super positive tone for the rest of our day! I don't remember the last time I sweat so much. I actually met Helen at my climbing gym, where I've seen her crush many routes, so I had a sense of how athletic and passionate she is about health and fitness. For that same reason, I was a little apprehensive about the level of intensity of her class, when she told me about it--will the class be beginner friendly, etc. However, the moment you step into her class, she made it clear that her philosophy is focused on pushing oneself to the furthest, in an encouraging and supportive environment. It didn't matter what level you are, she adapted her instruction to make it more challenging or more appropriate for your current ability, depending on your preferences. I wasn't familiar with the proper technique for some poses or exercises, so I appreciated that Helen demonstrated first what the next set was while describing how you should be positioned verbally. She came around every station throughout the sets and guided people into the poses, etc when it was needed, and with such bubbly enthusiasm (since she was cycling through them along with us when she wasn't checking in) that I questioned every so often if she was part robot. (She's not, just insanely strong and also super nice). It was also helpful when she confirmed and reassured that you are doing it right. We did three sets of 6 stations or so and my body was barely mobile by the end of it, but in a good way! Everyone audibly sighed a breath of relief when it was over but we also looked around and you could sense that we were proud of ourselves for finishing it together. Helen's chipper and cheerful instruction was definitely a factor, and even beyond that, I thought her layout of and plan for the class demonstrated great understanding of effective instruction for a group of people with varying strengths and abilities. Dividing the whole class into smaller groups to rotate through the stations worked so well. You see your group mates in the zone, so even if your body is screaming (which mine was, within safe boundaries), you feel like you can also do it and then you do. Naturally, my body thanked me by being sore over a couple of days, so you know it was good! I will definitely participate in another of Helen's class in the future. If you're considering it yourself, I would highly recommend it. Helen is like your own personal cheerleader that is also highly invested in helping you become stronger mentally and physically.

Went in today, "Oh, you're right here, your account is active, no idea who you spoke to last night, sorry'" and then, "Since your account was never canceled, we can't help you. They get to keep my $1,300.
