The culture is amazing; almost no one is talking or making a fuss nor are there a lot of the aforementioned 'content creator'. Agreeing with the consensus that the staff is kind and efficient. 5 stars on this locally owned gym was easy to write, but I almost don't want to post so I can keep this gym a secret. As a previous college athlete, I love the environment and I'm excited to get back into my old shape hahaha. The cleanest gym I've been to. With the 'no contract and no start up fee' standard, commuting to this gym is still a no brainer even if it does add a bit more travel time. The popular '$200 a month, class based' gyms in the city are extremely overly priced and I (respectfully) think they are suited for a particular type of person. I write this review as someone who has solely weight lifted for years, then cross trained, then prepped, etc. Lifting for 10 years now, I've been to a lot of different gyms and I agree with another comment about 'feeling at home' (which is especially important as a girl at a gym that's mostly men!) I look forward to updating my review :D

Really nice gym facility hidden away at the brewery. There is a huge amount of cardio equipment…read morethat is in great shape. There are several distinct spaces that make it feel like you can find a corner of the gym and focus. The space isn't overly loud and there is great natural light. The sheer amount of equipment is impressive. The staff are really nice and helpful, they know most members by name which is great. Pricing is competitive. Locker rooms could probably use an overhaul and there aren't amenities like saunas, but overall really nice gym.

There just hasn't been a review of the Curtis Hall Community Center in quite a while, and I thought it would be helpful to update. I'm training for a triathlon and needed an affordable place to swim 1-2 times a week. I I've gone swimming here a couple of times and I'm very happy with the swimming facilities. The locker room is.. a locker room. It seems well maintained and clean, which is all I can really ask for. The showers do turn off approximately every 30 seconds or so, but it's not a huge problem. The pool is 25 yards, and there are three lanes. I've only been in the early morning, but the most people I've seen at the pool at one time is 9 (3 per lane) and that worked out just fine. The gentleman who works at the front desk in the morning is friendly, and very helpful. He allowed me to try out the pool a couple of times before joining, which was really nice. The cost to join is $30 a year and there is a $2 per use cost for the pool. However, you can buy a card that gives you 7 uses for $10 -- well worth it if you ask me. I have no problem paying to help to support a community center. I will take a look at the rest of the facility one day when I'm not in a rush to get to work.

It's a good gym. Can get a bit crowded in the afternoon and late at night during the summer. The…read moreequipment is mostly satisfactory, though sometimes there can be a line. Not sure if the AC has been broken or off, but it can get pretty hot sometimes. The water fountain has been broken and the vending machine out of service for a while. Some of the front desk staff aren't super well-versed in the policies. The group exercise classes can be hit or miss, but I really enjoy Leo's Monday night Zumba. The (summer) hours could be better, with the gym closing at 5pm on weekends and the weights floor closing 15 minutes before actual closing time.

IF ONLY the Housing section and VULNERABLE TENANTS were treated as wonderfully as the gym and gym members that would be nice. Tenants are watched like criminals from behind an ALWAYS CLOSED CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY office door, but Huntington House is not a prison, jail, halfway house, shelter, recovery/treatment center, or the like. It is simply low-income/subsidized housing where tenants are treated very disrespectfully by the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON'S agent CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY. The building is treated just as poorly as tenants. Hallways and common areas are rarely swept or cleaned. Trash bins are often placed inside on the residential hallway on at least one floor, instead of outside of the entrance door to the residential floors. Exterminations are rare and many tenants would probably describe their units as uninhabitable. Complaints, maintenance requests are either ignored or, well, ignored! The general negligence in oversight by the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON of CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY "property managers" is nonexistent EVEN when YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON officials are apprised of problems and, in my situation, even after multiple legal actions. AND I COULD GO ON AND ON...AND ON!!!...AND ON!!!!! INSTEAD, I will refer you to my Substack account. There you can read my claims about the many violations of my state, federal, and constitutional rights by the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON and CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY since 2020 and YOU BE THE JUDGE in the comment section as to whether my rights were really violated. Search Still I Rise Above Hatred on Substack. MAYBE ONE DAY the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON will use the many millions in donations per year to make living at the Huntington House as wonderful as exercising in the gym.
