Very disappointed with this Newks. Have ordered several times for to-go orders and gave encountered errors on each, missing side items, missing ingredients to sandwich. Lately it seems there are problems with the bread, I have yet to get a sandwich to match the Newks on Jackson ave. the bread here has yet to be toasted or warmed and is often soggy undercooked seeming. read more

Had some good veggie pizza and sandwiches here. Sandwich had grilled portobellos and bell peppers with pesto sauce and goat cheese on toasted white roll. Now, if they added a nice artisan bread instead of the generic white roll, it would've been truly outstanding. Still, it was very very good for a fast food place even with the generic roll. Even the fresh fruit side dish was very good, with fresh, ripe cantaloupe, pineapple, and grapes. The pizza crust was of surprisingly good quality for a fast food place. Clean restaurant, friendly service, and the food is really good. It's an exceptional deli-style restaurant. The sandwiches are great- in particular, the Italian sandwich here is the best one I've ever had, and I've had my fair share of Italian sandwiches. Seriously, I'm not exaggerating. I wake up at night craving it. Try it. There's no other words I can say about it. The Chicken Salad is pretty great too. The side dishes are not bad either, but they weren't that big nor were they particularly outstanding. They're definitely a good compliment to the meal, but they're not something I would walk in there and get all by themselves. The drink cups are huge, high quality and refillable. Take them home- don't throw them away- and use them. It's big enough you can even put cereal and milk in it for your breakfast if you're a college kid in a pinch. Only gripe I have is portion size- it's a bit small for the price especially when it comes to the side dishes. That's not a huge deal, though, when you consider everything else. Overall, probably one of the best restaurants in Oxford. I'm very pleased with the quality. I just wish they had delivery :/ read more

I have a life threatening dairy allergy- not lactose intolerance, but an allergy. I disclose this anytime I eat anywhere. Wednesday I ordered, in person, a Mediterranean pizza and a Cobb salad with no cheese. I referenced my dairy allergy when I ordered. I foolishly did not check my food carefully before I took a bite. While there was no mozzarella, there was feta cheese under all the toppings. I had a SEVERE allergic response and only avoided using my Epi pen by taking 15 mg of prednisone to stop my throat swelling. Concerned about the salad I bought for the following day, my mom shook out the salad - there were small pieces of cheddar cheese in it. This was clearly cross contamination in the salad bar. That is honestly inexcusable- Newks should at the very least be able to put lettuce in an area of the kitchen that doesn't allow cheese to fall into it from the toppings area. Now, I tried to report this to Newks using their "complaint" link, but I had too many characters. If this weren't the 5th time this has happened in 18 months, I'd just set it aside; but the cheese on dairy allergy orders is just too much. It's dangerous and must be fixed, if not for me, then for other diners. read more

My first experience with Newks was good. The next two were not great. Last week I ordered lobster and crab bisque to go and got a fork and knife to eat it with, NO SPOON. You can't eat bisque with a knife or fork. Was dissapointed. Thought I would give them one more try, so today I ordered the Farmers market Sandwich, no spinach, no tomatoes, extra cheese, and add bacon. There were tomatoes on the sandwich, no cheese period and no bacon. And the sandwich was very thin. Basically it was just bread. One slice of portobello, one slice of zucchini, one of summer squash, and no carmelized onions. This ends our dining relationship. When I pay extra for extras and you don't get them you won't get my business again. Disappointing Newks read more

The Newk's on University Ave. is much better than the one on Jackson. However, you can't go wrong with Newks! Try the potato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Finish your meal with some carrot cake! A little overpriced for a lunch-type meal, but not so much that I wouldn't eat there. read more

I normally love Newk's but today we went and the girl that brought us our food just dropped it in front of us in a very rude manner. They over charged us and then were very rude when we asked them about it. She made it seem like we were the stupid ones. Will not be going back! read more

Good food, good service. But tables are distributed in an odd way. Many are out in the open, and most or all are near high-traffic areas. Noise is encouraged by the hard tile floor and clanky ice machine. We got a table (they are 100% booth-less) next to a window that afforded some traffic relief, but only some. In exchange, we found ourselves underneath a light that probably was last used as a spotlight in a WW-II prison camp. Food was fine, but go elsewhere for comfort. read more

I had the five cheese pizza, my son had the mac and cheese and my husband had a club sandwich. All was okay. You can definitely find better mac and cheese elsewhere. The pizza and sandwich were good, not great, portion sizes were generous and the price was reasonable. Better than fast food, not as good as some restaurants near by. read more

Hi this is Silas McSilassilas and I thought this Mel's was a decent place to eat. The food was great and the people were very nice. However the atmosphere and efficiency of the place was less than great. For starters, when I first walked in there was only one person in front of me. A nice lady who was doing her best to move as quickly as possible. However, though they were not in any way aggressive about it, the lady seemed as though she was being rushed. Also, the reason for the slow pace was the machine wouldn't take her card. It eventually did so there was obviously something going in out of the lady'a control. The second thing that happened was while I was getting a drink. One of the workers seemed very annoyed as she was having to organize the straws and napkins and such next to the drinks. She had just been told to do it because it want crowded, but it was still completely unnecessary. The straws were already more than organized and it was obvious they were just working her to work her. Overall not a bad experience, it could just use some improvement on making the atmosphere more enjoyable. read more

I've eaten at Newk's several times and it's always fresh, fast and delicious. My personal favorite is the Newk's Salad (dressing on the side please). Yummy!! read more
