We engaged Newark Tree Service (NTS) to (1) remove/grind a big cluster of palms and a bottlebrush tree and (2) prune two trees: an ash and a flowering pear. The ash had never been pruned and had become heavy and bushy; limbs had broken in strong winds. The flowering pair had not been pruned in decades and had developed three lobes; it was a very tricky pruning task. Miguel and his team did a great job, exceeding my expectations. Tree pruning is tricky and a weak team can ruin a tree. Miguel's crew is led by another Miguel ("Miguel Dos") who was smart, articulate, and expert at his craft. Hats off to the whole team. Miguel is now my go-to tree service. When we received bids, I thought that NTS's estimate was high; now I realize that I received great value for money. As a certified arborist, Miguel knows his trees! He came to advise us on possible replacements for our dying Cypresses, but quickly evaluated that they could be salvaged. While he was here, he surveyed our property, observed the dead tree that my husband has been trying to take down himself, little by little :), and provided info on the maturation and life cycle of our trees and how placement of current or new trees would affect other plant and tree growth in our yard. Although my project was completed on August 19, 2024, I got time now to write this review. I initially searched and got the information on this company on City of Fremont website for approved tree service contractors. It gave me some confidence as City approves it. I then contacted the number provided for NTS. The gentleman picked up the phone and quickly set up the date and time for on-site project estimation. Interestingly the gentleman told me that he does not work during the weekend and that gave me a special impression. Later I met Miguel during the estimation and quote visit. I had one side-walk high palm tree full of dead leaves and a dead perch tree in the back yard. He gave good explanation on the best approaches and how he would conduct the project. His price quote was also very reasonable as compared to the ones given by other contractors. He seems very knowledgable on what he is doing and on all tree related topics. On the day of the project, he and his team not only arrived promptly, but about 10 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. Miguel introduced the team and explained time to finish the project. The team worked very professionally and finished the project on time. They took and processed all the debris and left nothing but a clean site. I gave 5 stars to this company and Miguel. Newark Tree Service cut down a medium pine tree at my home on May 5, 2023. In the process a smaller nearby tree was damaged with broken branches just left hanging there to die. Also my rain gutter got damaged and now leaks. In addition two of my patio blocks got broken. I supplied replacements from my side yard which NTS was supposed to return new ones to me which I have yet to receive. 5 STARS IS NOT ENOUGH!!!! What a great team!!! This week was the 2nd time Miguel & his crew came to my rental in the Niles area to do some tree work. He topped several cypresses a few years ago. Left them looking great! So I knew who to call for help with damage after the January storm. Monday Miguel, his crew and, lucky for us, his dad came to remove a large limb and put a brace on the remaining part of a 100 year old Cedar tree as well as remove a dead Cypress that had a 45 year old tiny rose bush and 30 year old bougainvillea totally wrapped around it. Both flowering vines looked like they had been given steroids for 30 years!!! The tiny yellow roses were like a huge 10 foot ball. The Cypress had fallen over and had landed on a baby plum. It was AMAZING to watch as they went up a 15 ft. ladder then climb up into the canopy 30 or 40 feet up the Cypress to put in the bracing cable. Totally Awesome!!! Both trees created a lot of wood & wood chips, however, they cleaned up the yard so well you wouldn't of known it. Miguel was so professional, pleasant and friendly. It was such a pleasure to see them work. I was charged a very reasonable price for the complicated and difficult work that was done. When the huge grass fire reached the border of our ranch the fire department told us that we had defensible space because the vegetation was cut back properly, our roof was fire proof and the trees around buildings was trimmed properly. I have been a client of Newark Tree Service for at least twenty years. In the early years, I had them prune trees and lots of hedges and lots of roses once or twice per year, and I would maintain the shrubs the rest of the year. In the past few years, however, I have had them maintain my garden on a monthly basis. I have counted on them to do a lot of planting over the years as well as install and repair drip irrigation. And when I need to freshen the redwood bark mulch and the gravel in my garden, I arrange for the mulch and gravel to be delivered, and Newark Tree Service does the hard work of distributing the ground cover. Miguel has pursued an impressive amount of training in tree pruning and maintenance. He and his team are extremely reliable and very friendly. Miguel and his crew are FANTASTIC. They have come to our place in San Leandro annually for the last several years, pruning the same 5-6 trees during each visit. Over the last decade, additional jobs that they have performed have included the removal of diseased trees and the repair and upgrading of a pathway on one side of our home, with the (beautiful) result being a functional and attractive crushed granite path (which our dog also happens to enjoy as an occasional dog run). Miguel's knowledge of proper care for trees is terrific, and every one of his team members is highly competent and friendly.
