HasletPublic Library looks like it would fit on a production stage. The bookshelves are tall and close. It's very cozy in here but they do have small tables set up near the window. But as soon as my curious 2yo wandered into the computer lab/stem room & found a bin of legos that she touched for a total of maybe 8 seconds lol, the bald headed man marched in there & started watching us, making me feel as if I'd let my toddler freaking steal something?! I even said oh sorry she's just a curious toddler, we're just wandering. He didn't say a word & continued to be rude & correct anything she touched. Just wanted to put my experience out here before I submit my formal complaint. I'll stick to Saginaw library-- so kid friendly & the staff is always so friendly. That said, I REALLY enjoy the Roanoke Library. My wife and I moved to Roanoke in July 2011, and I kind of stumbled across this little gem. Here's a summary: - It's small. Cozy, but not too small - every time I go, there's only one or two patrons in the whole place. - Free Wifi. A lot quieter to study/work here than Starbucks. - They carry fairly new items (in my category of interests, anyway). I managed to secure the Steve Jobs biography on hold, within a few weeks of publication. Beats spending the money on Kindle. - A part of the TexShare program, which allows me to borrow books from other libraries after being a local cardholder for 6 months. - Good movie selection, and blu-rays. Current stuff, stuff I would think would be "too new" for the library. Also, the week-long policy for movies is a plus. - Decent online holding and renewal system. I can check out a book for 2 weeks, but renew it up to 5 times online. Wow! That's cool. All in all, this childhood place of memory has re-entered my list of favorite places - good resources, friendly staff, and a quiet environment.

There are a lot of computer terminals for those individuals looking to gain access to the internet. This is a very comfortable library now and a strong library system for such a small little community.

So this isn't breaking news or anything, but here's my new discovery for the Keller City Library:…read moreeBooks, audiobooks and Freegal Now I'm not completely thrilled how they work, as checkouts and downloads are limited, but hey, it's free, so I can't really complain. For eBook and audiobooks you are limited to three holds and three checkouts. Lending period can vary from title to title (most are 14 days). The books I've checked out are in Kindle format, which means you need either a Kindle, of one of the the free Kindle reader apps (available for a variety of platforms). Unlike a real book, it does not appear you can return material early in order to check out more material Freegal Music gives you access to millions of songs from over 10,000 labels including the Sony Music catalog of your country (in MP3 format). You are allowed a measly 3 downloads per week. If you are patient enough, you can download entire albums. Another thing I just started looking into is Mango Languages, also available with your library card. Maybe after 10 years of marriage I will finally try to learn some Vietnamese, beyond the most rudimentary of basics that is. As I mentioned in my earlier review, Keller City Library is part of the MetrOPAC system. Other MetrOPAC Libraries, which accept Keller Resident Library cards, are: Fort Worth Public Library Benbrook Public Library Burleson Public Library Haltom City Public Library Richland Hills Public Library Watauga Public Library Oh, and here's a cool tip: If you book is overdue, renew it on-line. If the renew is successful, it's won't be overdue anymore. I'm not sure if this works with DVDs, which carry a stiffer overdue fine. Lastly, this library can be noisy. People just don't seem to know what library etiquette is. Perhaps the expectation of a quiet library is changing. I agree with Tee, if you are looking for a quiet place to study, this may not be the pace for you. The Texas Motor Speedway may be a bit quieter ;-) Nowadays I find bookstores more quiet than libraries, and many even have tables (and coffee shops).
