Been thinking about heading back to school. This campus offers a paralegal program, so I headed to…read morecampus in order to speak with an advisor. Unfortunately, no one was available to speak with me; however, a phone appointment was scheduled for next Monday at 10 a.m. Woohoo! The lady I spoke with was very accomodating and satisfied every question and concern. She was ultra-professional and didn't seem in any hurry to move on to the next person. This showed me how much she really cared, and that I simply wasn't a number or random student to deal with. This is an open-air campus, which means the buildings aren't connected. Wonder how that would fare during inclement weather. Anyway, please check out this school.

I used to go here before transferring over to a university (UNT). It's alright, it's just old and…read morerun down from what I remember. What irked me was that the buildings were not all connected to each other so if you had class in one building and then class in another and it was raining, well good luck getting soaked or whatnot! Also when I was there, there wasn't that many spots of food choices on campus, just a Subway from what I remember. There was no coffee shops on campus from what I also remember, the closest one being that Dunkin across the street that I'm not even sure if it still exists or whatnot. The advisors there too weren't necessarily the brightest either as they had me working my own schedule out and what classes to take.

Colleyville Public Library - Outdoor storytime

I used to be a big library person when I was younger. Raising kids and working full time in a…read moredemanding job meant that me time was at a premium and my love of reading was temporarily set aside. When I relocated to Colleyville and went to vote in person, on a whim I went downstairs and got a new library card on the spot. They laughingly told me that new users often ticked up during election season for them. Now, the best parts. The only portal makes it super easy to request books, and I can swing by the handy dandy drive thru and pick up during library hours. They have a wonderful service where you can submit a request for a list of recommended books just for you based on what you share about your interests, favorite authors etc. I'm on my third list and Kara has nailed it every time. I've found some great new authors and enjoyed some books I never would have found otherwise. Just another reason living in Colleyville is pretty awesome.

The Colleyville Library is an outstanding library. They put on great events throughout the year,…read moreespecially in the summer. Their storytimes are so fun for littles. Most of the storytimes are not drop in - You have to register in advance and commit to an 8 week session. I think this results in a higher quality storytime - the librarians get to know your kids, they have crafts and other fun aspects to the storytime, and it's never overcrowded. Many other events offered do not require registration. The kids play area is the best I've seen at a library. There is so much to do! My kids all still love playing there, and will happily move from table to table building and playing for HOURS (even the older ones!). I do think, since this is a small library, you really have to utilize the online hold system if you want to pick out specific books. Especially when it comes to popular kid's books, it's unlikely that you're going to walk into the library and find it on the shelf. That's ok with me - the hold system saves me time because I reserve it online, the library tells me when it's been turned in and sets it aside, and I swing by the drive through to pick it up. Through the interlibrary loan system, you can get *almost* any book or movie you want, even if the Colleyville Library doesn't have it. I utilize the interlibrary loans regularly and have only ever requested ONE book that the library wasn't able to procure for me. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. Two negatives I'd point out: 1. The new "no late fees" policy. Because there are no longer late fees, it's essentially "choose your own due date!" and the result is very long wait times for some book series. When I scroll through my list of holds, more than half the books are often overdue. The library should be collecting fines for this to encourage on time return of books and use the money to purchase duplicate copies of books in popular kids series. 2. Holds are capped at 20 books. This isn't really an issue during the school year, but during the summer when more kids are checking out books, you pretty much have to wait for every book that comes to mind. With 8 people in our house, we reach 20 holds very quickly. I'd prefer if they did away with the 20 book hold limit. Those negatives aside, this library has my heart! We are here at least a couple times a week picking up books and I am immensely grateful for the way the library has enabled me to foster a love of reading in my kids. We LOVE the Colleyville Library!!!
