Bedford Library always felt like my home away from home. Everyone was kind, the environment was welcoming, and they have a really great selection of books. I really appreciated how they always stayed on top of new releases and would order highly anticipated books to have them on hand when they came out. They also have a really efficient process for putting books on hold and picking them up when they're ready for you. One of the features I think is the best is their "library of things." Now, instead of just books and computers, you can also check out various items to help around the home (tools, cooking, etc.) I've since moved to another side of the state and I miss this library often. I highly highly recommend that anyone in the area get their library card ASAP. read more

I absolutely love this library. Their staff is always friendly and helpful. The library is always clean, there are tons of activities, and the children's area has a monthly scavenger hunt that my grandchildren love. They also have challenges to keep reading fun! I've been a patron of the Bedford Public Library since childhood, before it moved to this new location. I love the new location! It still has the spinning globe right in the front entryway so that makes it feel like home. The entire library is super colorful and laid out nicely, it's spacious. There's plenty of computers, a low vision room, conference rooms available, tons of seating for reading/studying, an enormous section for kids with interactive games and activities... The library is always doing something, check out their website for events. I've recently been to the Mardis Gras Ball and their kitten adoption event, so there's stuff for both adults and kiddos. This library is getting ready to have a "library of things" as well, where you can check out items like tools or fans or a power-washer -- far beyond the usual books and movies. The concept of a public library in itself is WONDERFUL. We try to take full advantage, often visiting multiple times a week to check out new books. Of all the taxpayer funded city amenities, we are perhaps most thankful for the public library, and the access it allows us to endless information and learning. That being said, the Bedford Library is a pretty average public library. There are some wonderful things about it, and some areas that leave room for improvement. The staff: There is no middle ground here - the library staff is either incredibly helpful and friendly or completely inept and unpleasant. Is it the same person doing the hiring? I've had both the best customer service experiences and the worst at this library. The availability of books: We moved from an area where the library offered unlimited, FREE, interlibrary loans from public libraries and universities all over the state, making nearly any and every book available to us. In comparison, the Bedford Library has a very limited selection. Interlibrary loans are not free, and from what I can tell, are only done within a few bordering libraries. In some ways I support this - mailing books back and forth within the state is probably an unnecessary expense and an unwise use of taxpayer funds. However, I can't help but be a little disappointed when half the books on my goodreads "to read" list are unavailable. The holds process: I do like that holds can be placed online, but I do not like that the holds are limited to 10 books at a time. First of all, with 6 kids at different reading levels, I check out 20-30 books at a time. I could get library cards for each child and put 10 books on hold for each, but that just seems like a lot of extra work. My suggestion would be for the library to offer "family accounts" where more books could be put on hold at one time. Even when it comes to the individual, the 10 book hold limit can be a problem. Because of library's small size, many books have a wait list. If you're number 7 on the waitlist, that book is going to take up a hold spot for quite a long time, limiting your hold options to 9 books at a time. With all the books I'm on the waitlist for, I often only have the ability to put 2-3 books on hold at a time for pick up at the drive through. The checkout process: Speaking of the drive through, I LOVE this feature! Until moving to Texas, I'd never heard of a library drive thru. What a huge help to be able to pick up books without unbuckling and buckling 6 kids from their car seats. If only they could fix the hold issue so we could pick up more than 5 books at a time! The renewal process: This is another problem. Books automatically renew on the day they are due if no one else has put a hold on them. Great. But patrons should also have the option to self-renew books online. That way, if you've had a book checked out for 2 weeks and think it will take you 2 weeks to read, you can renew it yourself, instead of waiting a week, getting halfway through the book, and then finding out you have to return it. Also, the library ought to email you a notification when a book you have checked out is put on hold by another patron, so you have some sort of notice that you need to return it before the day it is due. Fines: The library recently removed fines. Why? This was a terrible decision. What incentive to people have to return books on time now? Is there no accountability anymore? Events: There have been no in person events, so far as I can tell, since last March when COVID hit, so I can't fully weigh in here, but I would mention that the Colleyville City Library held outdoor children's event throughout the summer, which were AWESOME. I'd like to see the Bedford Library do something similar. Well, that was more than you wanted to know, I'm sure, so I'll stop here. We'll continue to use the Bedford Library as long as we live in Bedford (and we'll be grateful for the opportunity!) but until the aforementioned issues are addressed (ESPECIALLY the hit-or-miss customer service), the Bedford Library will remain an average library. read more

This library has a great selection of books, many of which have come out in the last year. They have a nice section in the front that shows recent releases and recommends books based on themes. There is a computer lab to use, and the bathrooms are very nice. The desks are great to study at, and they offer pop-up outlets. There is a teen section in the back that has many forms of entertainment. read more

I've been coming to the Bedford library for multiple years now, even after living in a different city! They have a great collection and one of my favorite things is automatic renewal of books! Everything will renew online itself if no one needs it. read more

The internet is super slow, I went here to take my food handlers course and the computers kept closing on me. I switched computers to the sections in the way back. They were so much faster than the ones in the front. When I told the lady I accidentally locked the computer she got annoyed and said the internet is all the same speed but I got to finish my test super fast in the back. read more

I've been a member of this library since I moved here in 2003. I'm so proud to have such a nice library in our community. They have some terrific services: self checkout, online reservations, drive through hold pickups, lots of classes for patrons of all ages, and many special events. There are certain ladies who work there who could be a little less crotchety, but the staff is very friendly, for the most part. read more

Overall a nice library and liked that they have decent weekend hours. My parents are in this area vs us being 2 mid-cities cities over ...so not that far. We finally did the summer reading program here once they moved over here and it was all done online; which with my library just started doing it online ... and this library really wants you to do it online so all that you need to do is come get your prizes. So I think they liked us because we'd wait a few prizes in to go pick stuff up vs being up there all the time. We finally went to a suess event .. and even though we got there on time we were faced with long lines on everything, and quite a few stations were out of stuff by the time we made our way thru the crowds to get to the other activities. So the only accessible things were the ones that cost money so I ended up just standing in two longer lines for a single balloon animal ... they ignored that I had TWO kids because they moved on to the next kid before my youngest said what he wanted... We'll skip the special events in the future and just do the come as you will summer reading. read more

We love the Bedford Public Library! In need of some more kids launchpads, more non-stop screen fun in the kids section (ex Grapevine library) and some cool STEM areas for all ages of kids, but we love love love getting tons and tons of books and robot kits and STEM backpacks here. I grew up going to this library, and still frequent it weekly with my own babes to this day. They moved facilities just across the street a few years back, and took over the old vacant Food Lion location. Its roomier, with an awesome children's area, a study center for teens, lots of private work rooms, and a technology/computer/internet for cute-old-people area. It still smells exactly the same, and a giant blue globe still greets you upon arrival. I like that they've kept some of their originality for some of us nostalgic Bedford folk! The Bedford Public Library features several programs for people of all ages... lots having to do with little ones and also a teens program. We've been going to the story hour for kiddos on Tuesday mornings, since 2013. There are some registered programs, and other drop-ins, so just be sure to ask the children's front desk when you go in to attend. Their internet page is a little hard to navigate, and is always pretty frustrating to me. I would agree with someone else's review that the older ladies at the front desk aren't all that friendly, and sometimes seem annoyed to help you with your questions. This library was just recently expanded and updated. The inside is magnificent, with many new computers, chairs, check-out counters, a new technology room and a reading room in the back for privacy. It also has private rooms for holding meetings, drink machines, food machines, and even fresh coffee! You are also able to buy and donate used books before entering the library. This would be my main library if it wasn't for the staff. These women (and the one man I've encountered) are excessively rude. They act like they are bothered when you ask them about a question or make a complaint. They make it impossible for me to come back here, because I can't stand dealing with them! Another note, they just added a new "drop-off" drive-thru for returning books and movies, and that adds to the convenience. Beware though! The one time I went to the reading room to enjoy a new book, there were two people inside with their shoes off, and the woman was picking at her feet, making a very irritating and disgusting scraping sound. Overall, the interior is nice, plenty of parking and convenience, but the staff are incredibly rude, snobby and hard to work with. read more

I love going to libraries - but Bedford's is comfortable, easy to find items, helpful library staff and ease of returning or renewing items. The classes offered are applicable to various individuals. I am also impressed of by the art shown as well as a globe, which is the only one that still rotating out of 16 globes which were made. The quiet rooms are just that, quite and easy to sign up with staff. The individuals who work at the Bedford Library, appear to love their jobs and again helped me in signing up and also while looking for a particular book. This is a super nice facility! and the parking lot is huge as well. There is a big lobby right when you walk in and it contains a little book corner, a huge cool looking globe and some computers for quick searches. The library itself is very spacious, there are several study rooms for students to use and huge tables that line the perimeter. There are also tables spread throughout the library with convenient access to outlet plugs for laptops! They have a huge semi-closed off room for children and another one that appears to have magazines. The bookshelves appear modern and compact, it's pretty organized so you can find sections easily. They offer printing/copying services in addition to lots of public computers. I didn't have a library card and the 2 ladies at the information desk were nice and helpful. Registration process was quick and they use electronic self check out which is super convenient. I must mention that the library website has a load of useful information! You can register to be a user and have free access to their online resources called LearningExpress Library. There is a tab for everyone, from K-12, college prep (includes various CLEP tests and SAT prep), US citizenship prep, GED prep to occupation practice tests for college and post-graduate students. We quit going here for quite awhile because we were unhappy with the employees and their attitudes. We found the Hurst Library much more to our liking. However, a friend told us they had new faces among other improvements, so we thought we would try it again. The new faces we among some of the changes we approved of. Wonderful community library, which a very robust and diverse selection of classes and activities for all ages including teens. The staff is great, and we love that the teen have their own area quite a bit away from the children's section. It is great that they truly have their own space versus an afterthought nook. Love this library. Very current and modern facilities. My only complaint is their hours! They are open 10-5 even on Fridays and Saturdays. Our family loves to read and we would love to go more often but seems like they are always closed. read more

The library is big and has a lot to choose from! My teen daughter was very impressed with the selection and quality of books in the teen section. The shelves were neat and everything was in order and in the correct places. That is a difficult task to stay on top of in a library, so big kudos for that! We usually go to Hurst or Euless to check things out, but they didn't have the series she was looking for. I am glad that we finally decided to check out this library. She can't wait to go back. There was a fantastic greeter in the lobby that was there to answer questions and point people in the right direction. What a kind and friendly gentleman! The environment is very nice. Unfortunately, some staffs are very rude. One time, I enjoyed Mozart music on my laptop while reading a printout article for my university course. I lay my head for a moment on a desk. A staff lady knocked on the table rudely, saying 'sorry, I thought you were sleeping.' Maybe she thought that I am homeless and uses the library to sleep. Even when someone is homeless, one should not receive a very rude attitude as such. I hope one day she would learn how to be kind to people. One time, I was about to get out because I felt my sugar blood dropped. I panicked and tried to open small chocolate (candy size) on my way out. A staff lady rudely said that I could not eat or drink in the library. When I explained that it was just chocolate, she rudely answered back. She should bother with many who brought coffee cup while reading newspaper upstairs. I did not want to bother explaining her about my sugar blood. I hope one day she would learn how to keep sugar blood is vital for anyone, especially who got diabetes. read more

The library is not the problem. It is few emoloyees who are the problem. First time when I asked for help, this female employee continued to talk on phone and ignored me completely, i let it go thinking maybe her mind was on something else but as I walked out i did see her turning in my direction watching me go. She even refused to acknowledge me, next time she was not on phone, same person mind you as I raised my hand and gestured her to help me. So I did it without anyone's help although i had even requested another lady employee to help me. Both ignored me. As I walked out I noticed one of them was watching me with amusement and then I realized it was the same female employee who had refused to help me first time. The slight both times were deliberate. This library has a problem. Few bad employees who abuse patrons and this needs to be remedied. They get paid from our taxes and they abuse us. read more

This library is nice. It's big, updated and current. Their are different areas for teens kids, teens and adults as well as a large selection of CD's and movies to rent. You can rent even if you are not from Bedford with a Texas ID. The checkout system is all computerized and you can extend your checkout length online which is convenient if you need to keep your rented item longer. I really like that they have study rooms. Negatives are the computer speed is snail like. I complained about the lack of updated software and the speed and they got back to me the next time I was in the library (they tracked me down!) and told me they passed along my complaint to the IT department and they are aware of it and will fix as soon as they can. All in all this place has everything you could want from a library. Computers, CD's, movies, study rooms, a very nice staff oh yeah... And books!! All current! read more

I've lived in Bedford for a long time. I remember when my mother would take me to the old wooden house Library back in the late 1960's, with the swings in the front yard and the A/C units hanging in the windows. Anyone remember that? Bedford upgraded a couple of times to bigger buildings over the decades. Now the (old Food Lion Grocery Store) has been remodeled into the Newest Bedford Library. Nice Job! Our family likes the newer modern Library and it has a certain likable charm. Nothing is perfect, but I think you will like it. Check it out! David read more
