Instead of setting up in the bed of our pick up, we just stayed in our car and had a perfectly cozy movie experience. We used our radio for the first flick, but decided to just rent a radio (for $5) for the second so we didn't have to leave the car on. My hot tip is to show up with enough time to get set up and situated. Whether that means lawn chairs and blankets, or setting up in the trunk of your hatchback, getting cozy is your #1 priority here people! A few updates from last year: -They take card now! It made renting the radio and ordering food very easy. -The app is no longer needed. You can go right up to the window to order, but leave time before the movie starts because it takes a while. This is a perfect night for any season and I can't wait to go back.

I signed up right away to the drive-in site for future events notification. We are familiar in the area so getting to the drive-in is not a hassle at all. There are friendly staff members who guided the movie goers for effective parking and pleasurable viewing. The movie theater location is in the New York Hall of Science parking lot and the screen is fronting a good view of Terrace on the Park. The adaptable comfort zone is clean, convenient and follows Covid protocol. Luckily, we received a complimentary snack box courtesy of Apple TV+. The film is a free event too. Let's support the cause of this drive -in theater. It gives pleasure two ways.

Follow it up with a potential after-party or cocktail hour and an opportunity to socialize with the film's crew, and RF becomes a gateway for a night to remember. For the most part, the experience is extremely well organized. There is a group of staff members who help keep the crowds moving all the way from check-in to the seat. The layout of the seats is organized as such to where everyone should have a decent view of the screen itself. Depending on the film and makeup of the crowd, most folks are generally quiet and respectful throughout the screening. Acoustics are good and the picture quality is solid for an outdoor viewing. Of course, this is all possible due to their levels of membership, which ranges from $40 to as much as $250 a year. Every level has different benefits, which include everything from entry status to line priority for summer series movies. It may sound a bit much but it's not a far departure from the regular movie theatres where the prices are slowly creeping up all the time. Attend enough screenings and the deals actually quite solid. Naturally, there are some pitfalls that folks should be aware of: * It's outside. When high up, this means it could be really chilly during the night. Bring adequate protection, like a blanket, or another layer to stay warm. You're also at the mercy of the weather. Rainy days, snowy ones, may result in a screening being moved. Also, sometimes the hipsters will bust out a cig and ignore all rules as if they're Chuck Norris. Someone will happily rat out that person, that is, till they rat themselves out ::cue puff of smoke::: * Sometimes people are distracting. This isn't stadium seating unfortunately with premium surround sound. But someone's big head in the way is not as bad as someone hooting and hollering in the theater. * On occasion, some films will bore you to pieces. This is just the nature of film in general. I can't get mad at it. I'm not imploring everyone to become a member, but I will say that it's worth checking out Rooftop Films when given the chance. If you love the arts and feel like supporting the community, then I would recommend becoming a member (of any level) and check out more films as they become available. And of course, if you're not willing to come to Brooklyn, RF has expanded to where screenings are happening in Manhattan *and* in Queens. Everyone wins. Except kids. Leave them at home.

Now it's part of Montclair Film, a non-profit that brings independent film, education, and special programs to the community. Montclair Film runs multiple cinema venues across town, each "offering a distinct atmosphere and filmgoing experience" (as per their website). The theaters have been renovated over the years. There's a concessions area that has popcorn, candies, sodas, etc. FYI - if you carry a water bottle around, there is also a water refill wall station near the enclave where the restrooms are. You can purchase tickets in person, but also ahead of time from the montclairfilm.org website. They use Elevent as their ticketing system for movies and other events or classes.

You can buy your ticket(s) online and they'll email you the QR code. Note that there's a 50 cent fee. It's located on a busy main street, so street parking can be tough. Luckily there's a free municipal lot around the corner. So if you don't mind walking a block or so, park there! Yes, it's outdated and a little dingy. But I think it adds to the nostalgic charm. Carpets and wallpapers with funky patterns, retro arcade games, antique artifacts, vintage photos... such a throwback! They have a concessions station with your favorite snacks like popcorn, nachos, and candy. Not a lot of food options like the big name theaters, but the prices are a lot lower. You can even get free refills on popcorn and fountain drinks when you purchase the largest size. They only show four movies at a time with limited showtimes, so that can be a drawback. But they do have a good selection of first-run films for both children and adults. Of course, you get what you pay for. This isn't AMC Theatres lol. The theaters are small, so I would suggest coming early during popular times, especially if you're watching a newly released film. There aren't reserved seats, so first come first serve. No stadium seating. The chairs are leather and were comfortable with enough leg room. No recliner. There's a small table with a cup holder for each seat. I didn't experience any technical issues during the movie. Visual and audio quality were clear. They have a surround sound system and the screens were the perfect size. I watched a 6pm showing on a Thursday and had the whole theater to myself. I loved it. You can even book a private event or birthday party. I'll be coming here more often. I looked up where there was one at and found out they had one in the Harmon Meadows plaza in Secaucus. This location has a special place in my past since I had many fun nights there when I was in my 20's. We used to go to Houlihan's and hang out in that plaza with friends very often. Enough with my reminiscing, let's get back to the review. I found this theater quite nice and entertaining. It's not that I stopped watching movies but I got too caught up in life and forgot how much fun it was to just kick back and enjoy a good movie. Well the movie I saw was The Odyssey which has gotten some notoriety in political media so I decided to see it. I won't tell you anything about the it but I will tell you that I sat through close to a three hour movie and didn't even think about getting up until it was over. It was truly intense, fantastic and one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a while. I will likely go to the theater more often again.

DONT GO! This place has become disgusting since changing over from Kerasotes to Regal. The women's…read morebathroom was out of toilet paper in all but two stalls for hours. I notified an attendant and was told toilet paper would be added immediately. Two hours later, the stalls were still empty and dirty. The theater seats are in horrible condition with the vinyl pealing off. (See pictures) One of our recliners was broken and hung crooked when fully open. The men's bathroom was also disgusting and a clear health code violation with broken urinals and flooded urine water left all over the floor and toilets filled with urine. The theater did not have adequate bathroom facilities clean and available consumers despite being notified. I notified the manager, Hailey, as this violates health code as the theater sells food and is required to have a specific amount of functioning toilets for guests. We will not be coming back. This place has fallen into disrepair and is gross. DO BETTER REGAL!
