I stopped here to have dinner with the family after a long drive from the Bay Area in California. We were in Oregon to watch our son graduate from Oregon State. Go Beavs! After a long drive and getting settled in to the hotel we decided to go get some grub. Pizza was the consensus. We walked from our hotel to New York Squares. When we walked in we were immediately greeted. The first thing I noticed were the NY Giants pictures on the wall. Pretty cool. The atmosphere was pretty nice. You feel like you're inside a pizzeria in Brooklyn. We ordered the The Grandma and a Pepperoni. The pizza was crispy around the edges, but soft in the middle. For everyone but me the grandma was the favorite. I personally loved the pepperoni. The pizza was overall good, not my all-time favorite, but a solid 4 out of 5. The owner was awesome and the atmosphere was great too. When we're back in Independence (we love Independence) we'll definitely be back for another pie or two. read more

From the moment you walk in here the owners and their staff do everything to make sure you are taken care of. My eldest daughter who normally doesn't care for pizza loves it here so much that she requested it for her birthday dinner. Her siblings love it as well so its a very easy yes for our girls to eat here. Everything we've had here has been excellent, absolutely worth the drive from Salem. Inside the restaurant while you wait theres plenty of pictures of NYC to look at and our girls could color pictures that the owner put on display with others done by other customers. What do you get when you cross the Detroit-style pizza form factor with the flavor combinations best known in the UK? New York Squares, apparently. You could argue that this is more like the traditional Sicilian style, but that doesn't make for as good an opener. I have been absolutely CRAVING 'Nduja since moving back to the US. The spicy-savory sausage paste was on every pizzeria's menu back in London, but stateside it's very hard to find. Imagine my shock and delight when I found New York Squares offering it, in the boondocks of Independence, Oregon! After the first bite I was giggling like a child. Not only was the pie perfectly-cooked, cheesy and rich but not overwhelming, it was also in perfect balance. The cheese brought out the spices of the sausage, which augmented the creaminess of the ricotta, which highlighted the herbaceous parsley. For the price, the pizzas are tiny, yes. However, the size may not be the best indicator of value, in this case. The flavors are rich and the textures so diverse that every bite feels so much more satisfying than a typical meal, so a single pizza is a hearty meal for two or a moderate meal for three, and can easily stretch to feed four. New York Squares out did themselves! They take all precautions possible without being able to hold an entirely GF kitchen and I felt comfortable after speaking with the owner (who was more than welcoming) and talking about their process. When Sunday Feb 11th; 1:30 pm, Take out order customized half pie. Absolutely, wonderful service provided by husband and wife team of Mike & Juby. We were greeted warmly by Mike, at this Independence food cart. It was our first time here, so Mike explained to us our different options, pleasantly. He recommended ordering a customized half pie, where the both of us, could have 2 square pies each. I settled on two Pepperoni pies, while my wife was a little more adventurous with her choices and got 1 slice of the Grandma & 1 slice of the black olive slices. Since this food cart is strictly take out, other than eating in your car, you can add a little bit of ambiance by grabbing a pint at Parallel 45 brewery next door, where they have indoor/outdoor seating...Bringing in outside food is totally acceptable with the staff at Parallel 45 Brewing... For the two of us on this chilly Sunday afternoon, we decided to drive back home to Salem, to enjoy the pies in the warm comfort of our home. The pies were absolutely delicious. We got the customizable pie with the supreme pepperoni, margherita, upside down pie, and white pie. We loved all of them but I'd say the white pie, pepperoni and upside down pies were our favorites. My wife and I are both from NY, and have tried several great NY pizza places, including Rosa's in Middle Village, which was always one of our favorites! Needless to say we were skeptical that NY Squares would be on a similar level, but boy, were we wrong! As soon as we met the owner Mike the three of us immediately hit it off and started sharing NY stories. Once Mike described how he sources premium ingredients from out of town, makes his own sauce and dough, we knew this could be a winner. But the real challenge was making a pizza that compared to the best we've had in NY, and I do not hesitate to say that NY Squares certainly does! Delicious sauce, high quality mozzarella, tasty sausage over a perfectly made fluffy dough easily made this the best pizza we've ever had in Oregon! If you really want to experience authentic NY style pizza, NY Squares is the way to go. We only tried the Upside-down and the Sausage pies, but we can't wait to try many of the several choices that Mike provides. If you love true comfort food, give it a try! read more

Run, don't walk to New York Squares pizza. I lived in NY for several years and this is the true deal. You won't find pineapple, Canadian bacon or ranch, like the picture indicates, because New York pizzerias don't have them. The square style and dough are Sicilian style, the ingredients are high quality. They make their own dough and marinara, which I immediately detected, as it is not acidic, or spicy. It's very fresh and you can taste the tomatoes. 10/10 read more

Ate here tonight after seeing it pop up on Facebook. If you have tastebuds and want good quality ingredients this is the place. Their dough is spot on, the crust is tasty, the sauce is fresh, and the olive oil is spot on. Don't expect a bland pastey tomato sauce here like you would at any of the west coast chains. This is Sicilian style too so know what to expect when you get there: deliciously chewy, flavorful, high quality pies. If you're an East coaster too, this will curb the homesickness for you. Tried this place today after reading the write up in Statesman Journal. It was wonderful. The truck is parked behind Parallel 45 Brewing. The gentleman running the truck and the woman who was working with him were both kind and attentive. You can tell they want people to have a good experience. I got the pie home and it was perfect. Tons of pepperoni and olives on it, and the crust/focaccia underneath it (whatever you want to call it), was so, so good.
