Checked in at 2pm heading to Burlington so I didn't have to bother the staff late at night knowing I'd be returning at or after midnight. Did not come up to room at 2pm. Upon returning at midnight, we found the room dirty and never cleaned from prior guests. The bed was slept in, dirty towels on the bathroom floor, all soaps used and dirty and the tip for the "maids" still on the night stand. Did not expect a 5 star hotel for the price but did expect at least clean sheets. Tried to go to lobby (locked) and had to stand at the front door (10 degrees outside) for 15 minutes trying to call with the front door phone which does NOT work. Had to hold down the phone to call with my cell phone so I wouldn't get a busy signal, the owner or someone finally came out angrily, would not refund my room, and said he'd change the sheets. No other option but to stay here so we were stuck. No compensation for gross room or inconvenience. Made me feel like I was inconveniencing him for HIS room not being cleaned. Gross, will want future Vermont travelers to stay away. Highly disappointing even

When was the last time this door was wiped clean with a wet cloth?

Staying here was a horrific experience. The room was disgustingly filthy! The breakfast was depleted by the time I went to eat at 7:30 am. There wasn't even coffee or milk available. I've never stayed in such an awful place. Be sure to view all 13 of my photos from our room.

Um, you can lock this before you close the door, for those of you who have the "unlocking" door....jeesh

I have stayed here in the past and am glad to see they are finally updating a little at a time. my room was in the motel section, which is the older part, a little musty, but clean. the bathroom is updated. the TV is OK, but the channel box is hanging from the wall and was hard to use remote. this stay I was by myself visiting family, which meant I only slept and had breakfasts there. breakfast is lacking and a little unsanitary for my taste (a tub of butter to reuse, as well as a cheap peanut butter to reuse), eggs and sausage are gross. my phone didn't work, don't know why as I had free Wi-Fi... I got a good deal online so wasn't going to complain about such small things.... until I came home about 10pm to find housekeeping didn't lock my door...OK, it's Vermont and I'm no wimp, so I checked my room, said OK, small error, NP. the next night, the same thing... OK, I'm irritated and frustrated seeing I am a woman traveling alone, decided to talk to front desk in the morning. so I talked to the clerk and he said, oh, you must have the unlocking door... I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't....perturbed, but he said he'd talk to housekeeping. I left a note for them, nicely asking them to please make sure my door is locked, they had to move the note to get to their tip, and threw out the note.....(this is a regular lock, not a key card)... again, home late and tired, and surely would have a locked door tonight...NOT. NOW I am pissed off. the next morning I stomped to the owner and told him my grievance, first he said he couldn't understand me, them he asked if I wanted another room...seriously???? NO, I JUST WANT MY DOOR LOCKED! (you just have to turn the flip if the key doesn't work) SOO, tonight I came home to an unlocked door. I'm tempted to call the cops as I feel unsafe, but it's my last night and I'm home at 10pm again....so if you want to be robbed or raped stay in room 206, obliviously, that's the door you can't lock. it's not with the savings to stay here.

My family stayed in one large captain's room of this old and beautifully renovated firehouse. A well outfitted kitchenette, with many features, a fairly large refrigerator, microwave, etc. were in the room, which actually is a large den and a private bedroom, with sleeping space for about 4 comfortably and possibly up to 6 people (if a cot or floor mattress can be part of your stay). Polished wood floors with fine rugs make the rooms look very special. The decor is also very well done, with genuine brass fire equipment and other features that make this a fantastic place to stay. One couple comfortably stayed on the pull out sofa bed in our room. The other couple stayed in a spacious private room. A child slept on the other large sofa, so 5 people were able to fit in this space and it was about $350 a night. The child was excited to be staying in a firehouse. Wonderful large pictures of the firehouse's former captains dating back 100 years or more are lined up in the hallway. So, this was the absolute best find of a visit to this region, which includes the Ben & Jerry's factory, great skiing not far away in Stowe, the Goddard College campus, and more. I can highly recommend a stay at this perfect little inn. It rests atop a cool pub that serves good food, but the noise, even on a weekend, isn't noticeable (or hardly so) -- and all closes fairly early in this small town anyway. A big plus is the proximity to the Opera House, where we hadn't planned, but go to go see the great folk singer, Arlo Guthrie. Many other acts (comedy, drama, music) come through this terrific little town.

We arrived just in time to catch the sunset from the patio as well as some deers. We stayed in the Mountain View Queen that even though the bathroom is not inside the room itself, we still had a private bath right next door. With only one other room on that floor, we rarely ran into the other guests, until breakfast. Breakfast started with a yogurt parfait, followed by French Toast and bacon with delicious local Morse Farm syrup that I loved so much, I went to pick up some to bring home. After just one night, I already felt at home that before leaving, I checked out the other two options and fell in love with the Mountain View King for next time.

The owner apologized a few hours before our arrival for some boxes that were on the outside porch due to renovations. This did not begin to prepare us for the state of the home. Stuff was all over the hallways, our room was incredibly dusty, windows were filthy, and there were ladybugs all over. The owner tried telling us they are all over VT inns at this time of year. This is simply not the case. To pay $442 for one night was highway robbery. If we could have found another place to stay on short notice, we would have. There wasn't even a key to lock our room. We left as soon as possible before breakfast.

If you're seeking a 5 star this is not it, however for a night or two it's perfect due to the location. Fab location and I mean fab! Conveniently located across a movie theatre and walking distance to Main ave filled with eateries and stores!! Bed was a bit lumpy therefore I couldn't sleep well. Rooms were designed with paper thin walls and doors. I mean you could hear people in hallways, next door, you could hear their TVs in the next room etc. Parking has a $12 a night fee-I guess could have been worse but still was a bit shocking. Lobby modern and staff friendly. Overall I'd stay again for the location and pricing. Would have liked to try the breakfast but didn't get a chance to.

It never got more than tepid! My biggest complaint is they were aware of this long before our arrival and should have been up front, making us aware at the very least when we checked in. Our email and telephone number were provided at the time the reservation was made - I believe we should have been given the option of canceling as managment had been aware of the problem.

It had a big bed, a sitting room with a desk, and standard bathroom, and a lot of closet space. The windows were big, although mostly viewed the brick residence next door. The room itself is very warm, even with the heat off. However, there an air conditioner in the room that does the trick to cool it off. It's a little odd to have to run the AC when it's 25°F out, but I think the building just runs warm. And thoughtful by the owners. The Continental breakfast is quite standard. But it works. There is a sun room for all guests to share. I was in between 4 and 5 stars here, but 5 it is! It's convenient to downtown Montpelier; everything is within walking distance.
