My experience at New Star was/is one B I G headache that I hope to never have again. If I was not so young and spry the stress that New Star has caused me, may have contributed to the onset of a heart attack. Not only did I over pay to have my transmission replaced, but it took 3 times in and out of the shop over 2 months to get the transmission THEY put in to seemingly work properly. They did give me a 30 day warranty, but when the trans stopped working all together, within that time, they gave me a hard time about fixing their work. Now it is 3 months later and the transmission they put in is having the same problems it was when they "fixed it". I brought it to a new shop, who I highly recommend, that says the trans New Star put in may not be the right trans for my car and not only did they over charge me for the horrible work they did, they did not correctly fix the problem. This place is full of manipulators who take no accountability for the poor quality of service, parts, and customers time and money they waste. So in other words, Don't go here if you want your car to work properly and leave with your sanity and wallet fully intact. The ONLY way I will return is to get my money back. UPDATE: They did agree to fix my car after my lawyer contacted them continuously for 2 months. Works o.k. now but I doubt they were the ones that fixed it since it was driven 80+ miles in the 1.5 days they had it; probably taking it somewhere else to get it working properly since they obviously don't know what they're doing. read more

They are a bonified mechanic scam shop, not that they can't do the work, they'd rather mislead & deceive customers for a fast buck rather than provided quality customer service. Which would result in positive reviews and loyal customers. This guy Jessie there is not to be trusted and will milk you for everything he can. I was extremely pleased with the service at New Star Transmission. They gave me the best quote compared to shops around the area. They also gave the best service. Eddie was very polite and clear when explaining to me my options and what repairs would be done. My truck was in the shop for about 5 days. Upon pickup, there were no hidden fees and Eddie informed me of other repairs my truck might need without the pressure of having to do it then and there. my review and others mysteriously disappeared and replaced by overwhelming positive comments? after someone from the shop contacted me? more of this and this site will lose it's validity! clarification: as of the date of this post, i have received information that the oil used on ALL transmission service is of top brand quality and meets or exceeds the recommended standard or they will order the mfr specified type according to the email response from someone i believe to be affiliated with the shop. the general spirit of my original review is the same. original review: 1st visit:: clean shop, very expensive but service was done correctly ; saw a guy refilling oil from a windshield washer container made me wonder if oil was used, dirty or cheap volume discount stuff....after all this is a tranny shop?! 2nd visit:: horrible! had to go back the next day(twice) to fix simple problem! dinged me for separate labor on ALL related service parts. estimated completion time was off 6+hours for a simple part replacement! did not get a call when job was done. verdict::overpriced and zero confidence with staff.i will not return here. read more

First I wanna Thank Eddie for helping me out I came across Eddy and New Star Transmission on a day where my front suspension got damaged in front of his shop, a week earlier I had work done at a North Suburb mechanic shop and work performed wasn't done accordingly, not only did Eddy provided a detail description of damage he also allowed my vehicle to stay there overnight for observation, fortunately the shop at fault agreed to fix repair and pay tow truck as well. Not many shops will help this way, Even thought Eddy didn't charge me a dime or requested compensation I highly recommend This shop. read more

New star transmission, is absolutely the worst mechanic in the history of mechanics.. i took mty vehicle in to them because i was having transmission issues. they had an add in the chicago red eye saying, all transmission jobs were $995.00( which included parts and labor). however after having my vehicle i was told my cost would total over $1800, and if i wanted not to have my vehicle serviced there, because the transmission had already been taken apart it would cost me $600 for the service. so with my back against the wall i paid it. to make matters worse 2 months later my vehicle begins to show the same transmission symptoms that it has before taking my vehicle in. once i called i was instructed to bring my vehicle back in for service. so i did as i ws instructed. after 2 weeks of calling and getting the run around, i finally speak to the joke of a manager and he explains to me that they were just finally getting to my vehicle. when the day before i called to check on my vehicle, and i was told my vehicle was being test driven to make sure the problems have been taken care of... so now i am trying to get ahold of the owner and i am getting the run around from the manager, and my vehicles is still not ready to pick up. please do not take your vehicle to this shop they are scam artist.... langston maynor if you have any advice or an opinion about what my next step should be please contact me at ltmaynor@hotmail.com read more

Push your car if you have to away from this place. I was quoted a price before I had my old car towed here . Once my transmission was dropped the price almost trippled. After complaining the price was lowered but still double of what I expected or I had to pay $400 for nothing. Okay ,so I agreed to pay the new price. Had to wait almost a month for them to finish . Was told I had one year warranty but they failed to mention only 6,000 miles. Well guess what , after 7,000 miles ... Bad transmission all over again. Waste of money , had to junk my car after this because I cannot afford to through away $3000 again. read more

Beware! Beware!. I got a telephone quote for a good price so I had my car towed in for a trans rebuild. When I got there a couple of hours later, they had the trans removed and apart. Then they said now it's going to cost triple!!! They wouldn't continue with the car until I agreed to double. What was I to do? I want to say as a single, middle aged woman, I am exactly the type that mechanics and other tradespeople love taking advantage of because I don't know that much about those things. So, I like to think that there are honest people out there who really do have integrity in their work and EDDIE is one of those people! I have been going to a different mechanic and have been for a long time but recently, circumstance led me to New Star and I am so happy I found him. I have had to do two repairs with him. By far, he has been the most honest, reliable and fair person to deal with. While I am skeptical, he has shared price quotes and gave me advice that truly served me. I never had a little brother but feel like he will take of me as if I was a sister. That means more to me than he will ever know. read more

I've had my transmission repaired with them, I don't think the car ever runs the same once the transmission is repaired. It's driving within normal paramaters I guess. The issue is with their customer service. I came back a few months after the repair to request a letter so that I may have a chance to have my $2700 I paid them reimbursed by the auto maker. I've been calling almost weekly at the request of "Delores" who offered to help. After initially seeing her in person, I thought I would have my letter in a few days. She been avoiding me since the first call. I'm not sure why but it's unfortunate that after so much money that they can't have the decency to call back, apologize or even have the letter written. The owner is allegedly "out of the country" until next year!!! I'll never recommend this company. Poor customer service. Shame on you Delores. read more

They deserve no stars but had to select so.Messed up place took my car there for motor work since car wasn't running. They gave me the run around for awhile then told me it would be done in a week or so long story short they towed my car and parked it on the street leaving it there for a week or so got 5 tickets and it got impounded oh plus the stole my radio airbags etc worst place ever and they will be hearing from my lawyers!! really bad experience with these guys, bought my truck from a dealear who had the trans rebuilt from new star with a 6 month warranty, 2 weeks after the warranty expired the trans locked up and would not move, so i had no choice but to pay to have it rebuilt again, but they only offered me 30 day warranty, i refused so they offered me a 90 day warranty, so i took it..these clowns must not test drive the cars because as soon i picked it up the truck was shifting horribly, so i took it back its been sitting there for over a week now, i called them and the guy on the phone told me he would call me back in 15 minutes while he checked on the truck. THAT WAS ONE WEEK AGO....I don't have time for playing cat and mouse games i live across the city from them and have other things to do, and now they said that there was a electrical short in the transmission..i really hate this F place. my warranty with them is counting down as my truck sits in their lot..they might be good for changing oil, breaks, and mufflers but they suck at transmissions.. and follow ups!
