New South Kitchen inside the Omni Hotel Atlanta truly created a beautiful Mother's Day experience. I treated my mom and mother in law to their prepaid Mother's Day buffet, and from the moment we arrived, everything felt very organized and thoughtful. Since the experience was prepaid through OpenTable, check in was simple. We just gave our name and were seated right away. The atmosphere was elegant and welcoming. The floral display set up for photos was gorgeous and made for such a nice touch. I also appreciated that each woman received a rose upon arrival. Included with the buffet was a complimentary mimosa, which was lovely. The buffet itself had a great variety of options. There were chilled shrimp cocktails, crab legs, a banana foster French toast station, grouper, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans, and so many other items to choose from. Overall, the food was very good and well prepared. Donita was our server, and she was pleasant throughout the experience. The only hiccup was the crab legs. Our reservation was at 1:15, and by the time we were seated and made it to the buffet, we were told they were completely out. Honestly, I had a feeling that might happen considering how popular crab legs are for Mother's Day crowds. After many guest complaints, they eventually brought out crab claws around 2:45 and added them to the buffet. Aside from that issue, the experience was enjoyable overall, and I would definitely consider New South Kitchen again for future special events. read more

While attending a conference at the Georgia World Conference Center, we made lunch reservations at New South Kitchen. When we arrived, we had a short wait for our table -- no problem at all. However, once seated, we waited about five minutes before our waitress acknowledged us. We asked for menus and were told there were none -- buffet only. Meanwhile, the table next to us was clearly ordering from a menu, and we saw other tables with menus as well. If the restaurant was only offering the buffet at that time, that should have been communicated when we checked in. I would have gladly given up our table to someone on the waitlist and chosen another spot. The buffet was mediocre at best and certainly not worth $26. It consisted of a basic salad bar, two proteins, wild rice, and collard greens. Unfortunately, it was easily the worst meal we had while in Atlanta. Even more disappointing than the food was the service. It was the worst service I've experienced in a very long time -- absolutely dreadful. read more

We stayed at the Omni and had good experiences with Breakfast at New South Kitchen. We went for dinner and the service was terrible and the food was just okay. It took forever to get drinks. Our server brought us water once and never again - we had to ask several times for more water and then had to ask several times for our check. I think they are training new staff due to the World Cup being in ATL soon, and I can excuse slow service but I cannot excuse slow service and a bad attitude. Staying at the Omni for 5 nights and decided to try this out as alternative to the sports bar where I've been eating most of my meals. Service and hostess were friendly and attentive. The ambiance inside is great. I love the colors and overall decor. I got the sweet corn fritters appetizer and the fried springer mountain chicken thighs platter for my meal. The fritters were just OK. Nothing resembling "sweet corn" to me. A bit dry as well. The chicken platter was excellent. Great flavor. The greens were good and the Mac and cheese was plentiful. Cornbread side was lacking. Overall a very good meal and experience but not blown away by any means. read more

While recently staying at the Omni I ate at New South Kitchen twice. Both experiences were mixed. First, visit was for breakfast. Food was excellent! The host was clearly in training and was very sweet. He brought us too a table that still had jelly on it from a previous guest. I asked if there was a napkin so I could wipe up the jelly. The waitress walked by and snapped and me and said 'ma'am, that's why he wanted you to sit at another table.' I was confused as this was the table he just brought us to, which I told her directly. She reversed course on her attitude problem quickly after that. The rest of that meal was pleasant. Second meal was dinner. The only redeeming part of dinner was the fried green tomatoes. The lobster Mac was dry and gross. The burger was over peppered and awful. So much pepper I choked on it. The food wasn't the worst part. It was the service! It took 10 minutes for the server to acknowledge us in a restaurant with only three other tables at the time. She brought water. Ten more minutes. She took our order. She came back ten minutes later and said the bar was behind and our drinks were a bit late. Our appetizers came. Still no drinks. Dinner came. Still no drinks. She never came back to even refill the water. I asked three times. The manager final did it because I asked her. The server never returned to our table for the balance of the meal. I finally had to ask the host to get our bill so we could pay and leave. It took almost TWO hours to have dinner. I am not sure if they are training for the coming business with World Cup or what but if this is the service level they are going to have a really issue. read more

I will start this review with 2 caveats. The first is that this is a restaurant attached to a hotel, albeit a nicer hotel, so one must already be dubious. The second is that today was the big Alabama vs Georgia SEC championship game in addition to the American Epilepsy Society conference, so the crowd level was likely at a peak. That being said, the experience tonight should not have cost money. We had made a reservation for a business meeting. There was no indication that the dinner would be buffet style and that none of the regular menu would be available. It felt like this move was made in anticipation of high crowd levels, and a restaurant that was not capable of staffing a full service dinner program tonight. Our waitress somewhat tried her best, but outside of occasional water refills, I had to flag people down to order my first drink 30 minutes into dinner. The drink itself was incredibly disappointing. A $20 spiced old fashioned came in a small plastic cup 1/3 filled as if I was ordering at a cash bar at a small wedding. The dinner itself was also disappointing. The restaurant bills itself as a Southern comfort food style place. The buffet concept was clearly thrown together quickly and it was in the style of a large business convention. Overcooked and flavorless salmon, rubbery boiled chicken pieces, bbq ribs (best item), half cooked potato wedges, corn on the cob, and corn bread. No cooked greens, no soup or stews, no fried chicken, no biscuits and gravy, etc. However, there were clearly people cooking burgers and chicken sandwiches at the grill, and when I asked if I could order one to be made, I was told "only people in the hallway can order those." Overall, I understand this was likely a one off, and I can't even rate the restaurant based on their typical menu since they weren't even offering it. But the fact that they felt it was an acceptable decision to cop out with a half effort buffet program, clearly due to their own lack of confidence in executing a full service dinner menu in anticipation of any kind of crowd, says a lot about their prospects as a restaurant in general. Would never recommend this even if you just wanted a quick meal at the hotel you are staying at. read more

While staying at the Omni during Falcon season, we find it convenient to have dinner before the game (wine and the mini wedge with salmon) and the breakfast buffet the next morning. The dinner dishes always satisfy. The ambience is perfect and usually there are very few patrons (makes me feel special with all of the service and attention). However the breakfast buffet was underwhelming. The fresh fruit and tea were great but the dishes that were supposed to be hot were lukewarm at best and lacking the southern flavors/seasoning. The $30 buffet fee should at least include fresh-squeezed orange juice instead of from concentrate. Also in the past, we received free parking vouchers which is no longer honored (which sucks). I'll stick to the meal before the game in the future. read more

During my recent stay at the Omni, I was able to visit the restaurant a few times. Their breakfast was the always served to perfection! I cannot say more great things about the quality of food, the speed of service, and how friendly the staff is. It was honestly such a great way to start my mornings before I had to begin work. The atmosphere was a little apathetic - there was no music playing and the employees seemed a little blasé. Pretty disappointed with this restaurant. The menu looked great but the food was not. I had a lunch here and started with the fried green tomato's which had a soggy batter coating despite the exterior being crispy. I then had the Salad Chop Chop and I could have gotten a better salad at a diner. Everything was chopped which was great but the chicken was terribly dry, the dressing on the salad was not evenly dispersed and overall the salad was meh and honestly sad. I would not recommend this place if you're staying at the hotel or even if you see their menu and think oh that looks good. read more

My daughter and I had brunch this morning at your establishment. She was not impressed with the non-alcoholic punch served to her. The food selection was decent. Despite the service being very slow, New South fed us very delicious breakfast meals. One morning, I had coffee and ate eggs, bacon, and oatmeal from the breakfast buffet. The following morning, I realized the buffet also has an omelet counter with omelets made to order. There is no sign, so if you are opting for the breakfast buffet, I would say it is safe to request an omelet from one of the cooks behind the counter at the buffet area. The second morning I visited, I ordered an avo toast a la carte and shared waffles with my colleague. The avocado toast with an over med fried egg was really flavorful. I wish the bread was a little more toasty cause it felt a little soft and had to eat it with a fork and knife. I was scared the toppings would fall off if I picked it up and took a bite. The waffles did take a bit long to make. They were warm and so crispy and paired perfectly with the last of my coffee. Our host, Jeff, was so nice. He sat us down, was following up with us, and even brought us an apple for the flight home. If you see him, tell him we say, "Go Lakers!" I came upon this restaurant during a conference I was attending in the Omni and I couldnt wait to get a chance to go back. They are open for breakfast until 1130am. I went on a Saturday after running a 5K at State Farm Arena. At 9am it wasnt crowded, and it didnt get more than halfway to capacity. You can order from the menu but economically its best to purchase the all you can eat buffet for $30. There's fresh fruits, breads, oatmeal, shrimp and grits, pancakes, potatoes, eggs, omelette station, bacon, sausage and charcuterie. You have to wait to be seated and there is wait staff to take your drink order and clear your plates. My waitress was very attentive and made an awesome latte. The food was hot, plentiful, good quality and tasted great. I suggest coming when you have time to sit and enjoy. If you are in a rush or not really hungry because you miss out on the whole experience. The decor and embiance is very nice. There was a TV but the sound was very low which was fine because I was busy enjoying the beautiful views of Centennial Olympic park and the area. I believe New South Kitchen is a hidden breakfast/early brunch hidden gem. I 100% recommend and will be back. You can park in the near by lots, on the street or valet at the Omni. read more

The worst prepared food and service. I was very dissatisfied. I am from out of town first time in Atlanta and was looking forward to a nice meal and the staff was very distracted talking to eachother instead of attending to the customers. Our waitress was rambling about social issues and various topics when all we wanted to do is order and get our food. Instead the food took approximately 2.5 hours from the time we ordered to when we were served. The waitress even recognized how long we had been waiting and offered us some biscuits on the house. The entire staff from the hostess to the servers were not very friendly and we felt they had an attitude with us. The food was bland and had no flavor from the buttermilk chicken to the pasta. Food was not good, the avocados on the toast were hard and not ripe the eggs ofc were liquid eggs from a cartan and the waffle we ordered was modified to strawberry jam instead of peach without telling us and it was 16$ for ONE "Belgium" waffle and it was normal waffle. Walked in to New South Kitchen around 1pm today and two conferences/events had just let out so everybody had the same idea. Despite getting slammed all at once, the entire front staff came together as a team to seat folks with a smile and eagerness to provide a high level of service. A big shout out to the kitchen for coming together as a team as well. Orders were piling in and they took it all in stride; the quality of the food and presentation didn't go down just because they were super busy. The food was hot and delicious.
