Their sidewalk prices reflect their cash price for services, pre-tax and pre-tip, and they'll direct you to the enormous ATM machine positioned right at the desk where you settle up to make the point that they prefer (sometimes will only accept) cash. That's not subtle, but it's fine i guess. But then when it comes to tipping, it's so interesting-- even if you volunteer a 20% tip on the credit card price, they will tell you it's not enough, will do something on a calculator behind the desk and then show you a number on the calculator that is more like 28-30% tip. If you protest and say something along the lines of "I'm so sorry, that's not correct- i teach math, i understand percents, that is not a 20% tip. What i gave you was a 20% tip. The customer decides the tip," they argue and basically play chicken with you until you give in or leave feeling like they and everyone still getting their feet rubbed behind you think that you are a down-dirty thief or something. It's like they're banking on your discomfort and post-massage brain fuzz to get a 30% tip. I watched them do this to one customer during the foot part of my last massage and then heard them do it to another customer while i was getting my back worked on during the same visit... and then, yep, they did it to me, too. I gave them what they wanted, knowing i would never, ever be back, and that i would probably stop going to their sister massage spot a few blocks away even though I've been a regular there for 18 years and really like their massages. I wasn't going to post a review about this-- that last visit where they challenged my math was actually 5 months ago, i just walked away and committed to not going there anymore-- but i overheard two young women in a restaurant talking about this happening to them today, too, and wondering how they messed up the tipping so bad. It's not you, bebes, it seems to be the business model unfortunately. It wasn't always this way, but at least since November 2025, it seems to be a common occurrence. Check the reviews- it's mentioned in several other reviews besides mine, too. It's a shame. It gives basic, nuts-and-bolts tui-na spots a bad rep. So: Stay away. Or at least go in prepared with your own enormous calculator that you can wave around back in their face to show the actual math.

There are no frills here - no robes, no slippers, no doors (there are drywall partitions and curtains for privacy). What is here is a group of very nice, very attentive massage "therapists" who bring a passion and expertise to kneading out knots of tension. I use massage as part of a pain management plan. I generally go about 2-3 times a month especially during the coldest months of winter, an expense that would be painful to manage at traditional spa rates. Thankfully I've found two no frills massage spots that practice traditional Asian bodywork and I couldn't be happier. ZSS is my go to spot in Brooklyn - it's a little less nice than my favorite midtown spot, but the prices are right, the staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgable, and the facilities are clean. This hidden gem resides above La Bagel Delight on Court Street on the second floor. No appointment necessary. Manage you're expectations and skip it entirely if you're into frills (no need to talk about your disappointment if you know from the jump this isn't the atmosphere you're looking for).
