This is the best Indian place in the Philadelphia area hands down. It's a no frills place that makes some incredible and authentic food. The place is clean and the good is absolutely delicious. The naan is fresh and warm and delicious too. We get the mixed grill and haleem with some rice and naan and salad and we love it. We were walking around the area of Tower Theater looking for a place to eat. We stumbled across this place by accident. Since we love this style of food, we had to try it. This is a hole in the wall. Come in with no expectations of anything fancy, be willing to eat out of a styrofoam container, and you're going to find a gem. The biryani is fantastic. The samosa chaat is wonderful. The chicken kabob I tasted was not as good as the other two choices but it wasn't bad. I thought the price level was slightly high for the experience but the food quality held its own. I have gotten takeout from here three times in as many months. The menu is a bit limited and they are closed on Mondays but the food here is excellent. Don't tell a book by it cover. It is not the most visually appealing place. Get the biriyani (chicken or goat- both are good), the chicken curry, and of course the naan. This is hands down the best place to eat Pakistani/Indian food in Philadelphia. It's a small place and not a lot of seating but it's clean, the staff is nice, and it's exactly like you would eat it if you were being served at a Pakistani home. The chicken tiki Masala was amazing and so was the naan bread. I also had some sort of chicken they had on display that was recommended from a friend and it did NOT disappoint. Warm and hot with the chutney sauce it was phenomenal. I had a nice chat with the owner afterwards and he let me try the carrot desert in the case in the front. Delicious. Strike 1: I call New Punjab to place an order for pickup. Typically when you call a business they say "Hello this is Business Name". At New Punjab, it's a more like "What?". Strike 2: Arrive to pick up order 20 mins later and they forgot to make it. They ask me to wait a few mins. Some guy walks downstairs and brings back a container with him. The chef pours the contents onto a fryer and warms it up. No idea if this was leftovers from the night before. Strike 3: I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala but apparently they don't think to include rice with that. Who does not include rice?? After asking they gave me a small portion of white rice to go. Totally never returning here again based on the service. The masala itself was tasty (a bit too oily) but that was the only good part. read more

It is a bit of a dive restaurant when you walk in you do not expect much, but WOW yhose flavors are amazing. Chicken tikka masala is hands down the best I have ever had as us the naan. Their Lamb biryany is incredible, make sure if you dont like spicy to say 1000 times no spice, they will still add spice but it wont be too much. read more

I have never been disappointed with the food here. Everything is made fresh and it shows. I've had Middle Eastern food in dozens of places up and down the east coast and New Punjab is definitely in my top 3 favorites. The chick peas, spinach, biryani, tandoori chicken, fresh salad, tender meaty lamb, and the always wonderful fresh naan. I have so many tasty favorites but I intend to try everything. Visited here with my family on July 4th. We ordered so much food and everything was amazing! The staff is very friendly. We ordered Samosa's, chicken rolls, chicken and goat karahi, chicken biriyani and naan. The mango lasso was so good! The staff was so friendly and accommodating. I am so torn with my review because the food was amazing. HOWEVER, the service, prices & portions were infuriating. It was our first time at this place so we stuck to the basics and ordered Chicken Masala ($14) and Palak Paneer ($8.50) with 2 samosas and garlic naan ($4). 1. NO RICE! Never in my life have I been served Indian food without rice. Not in a restaurant or home. EVER! And at $14 and $8.50 per dish, it's just insulting not to serve rice with my food. 2. The portions were so small. Our food was served in small metal bowls that hold about 3 cups of food and were not full. So we received about 2 cups worth of "entree." The garlic naan was so small it did not even fill up the paper plate it was served on. Yes, $4 for 1 piece of naan that was smaller than a paper plate! 3. They forgot our samosas. We had to go back up and ask for them, and when they finally came out they were served without sauces. I have never been served samosas without the sauces. They might have been good with some sauces, but otherwise they were very dry and bland. 4. Each time I asked for or about anything the man at the register would turn away from me and get the chef from the kitchen to come speak to me. I just happen to think that the person standing at the front of the restaurant, at the register should be the one who speaks to the customers. They should not have to retrieve someone from the back every time. So in general, the food was delicious, but I just don't think it's worth the price and poor service.
