The place is clean, except unfortunately since they do a lot of take out as we had observed, lots a flies get in and buzz around (exterminated 4 at our table during the course of our dining experience.) But don't let that dissuade you. They have a large menu, and customize levels to fit eveyone's taste. When trying new Indian restaurants we usually start off with basic dishes to get a feel from their cooking style. We shared two dishes: llamb rogan jost medium spice and chicken tikka masala aslo medium spice and an order of garlic naan (well 2 orders as we needed more and took some home... it was that good). Both dishes were exactly as expected and both for the most part were tender and moist. Lamb can sometimes be chewy. We loved our choices and dunked away into the sauces with the naan. Rather than gobi manchurian (consistently wonderful here) we opened with vegetable samosas. Served with condiments, the pastries are excellent, the way samosas should be. Last time I noticed a family eating what looked like spaghetti. I'd never seen pasta in an Indian restaurant, so of course I inquired. They assured me that the dish -- hakka noodles -- was worth trying. So we did, with shrimp, ordered medium on the spice scale. I'm adding this to my repertoire! I suggested that T choose a second entree, hoping he'd go with my tandoor favorite, chicken tikka. Nope, chicken korma. This is where Srinagar loses half a point. The sauce is excellent. It always is. But the cubes of chicken were dry. (Tikka -- NOT masala -- never is.) 6:00 on Friday, prime time for dinner, people straggled in. While they take reservations, you likely don't need them. Where they make their money is with takeout. A steady stream of customers picking up their called-in orders. I always enjoy Srinagar. Good prices, nothing fancy, responsive service AND (what I like in Philadelphia) BYOB.

For ticketed shows someone will be standing at the door into the music area selling tickets. They also have a number of free shows throughout the year check out the events section of their webpage. Pushpinder has done a great job with this place, always working with the music community and offering some great local bands. After going back and forth, we finally decided on a garlic "super" naan, with Jen going with tandoori chicken kebab and myself going with classic bhindi masala. This is where the magic really began. Upon opening the door to the restaurant, the scent hit me. Brilliant smoky and spiced, the tandoori wafting from the kitchen. The entire place smelled insanely good and isn't big. Just right for stopping in for a small group or picking up your food; it also holds up on your drive home as well, as our food was piping hot as if it had just come off the stove when we got back about fifteen to twenty minutes later and finally opened everything. The heat level was good, but there was so much sauce and so little lamb. The sauce was also very heavy on the tomato flavor. It ate like a spicy pasta sauce instead of a vindaloo.

The chicken samosas were as good as the freshest crispy empanadas I've ever had, and the lamb Vindaloo was just as good as the lamb I've had in high end five star Indian restaurants. He also offered me some of his specialty dessert, something called "Gajar Halwa". Being a diabetic I am used to forsaking my sweet tooth when I walk past the Cinnabons and the 3 Auntie Anne's, but this stuff was like a cross between baklavah and old fashioned American apple pie and it didn't spike my blood sugar like most mall food. He told me what was in it, but he wouldn't give me the recipe since it was his own creation. Then, he offered me some other dessert that tasted like a nice funnel cake; crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, only less greasy and not so sickly-sweet. Don't be fooled by the appearance. Don't get me wrong, it was very clean, but within the context of the rest of the sparkle of the mall, the storefront won't catch your eye. The tikka masala was very good as far as the chicken tasting fresh and the masala having flavor. The eggplant masala was good as well, it was smoky and I think I'd prefer to eat it with roti. The pani puri was great as well, it is very true to the way Pakistani's eat their pani puri which we loved. I do feel that the prices are a bit high for the portion sizes.
