I stopped in for a late dinner. Many of the items were empty or only a small amount available. The items were not re-filled. I had to wait several minutes, despite ringing the bell numerous times and asking a dishwasher to get him, for the cook to come out of the back to cook my hibachi food. The food was nice and hot, but not seasoned as requested. The food that was on the buffet was not to temperature standards. My server was ok. The seating is typical table/booths. It is not too noisy. Stopped by on the way to BWI from northern WV. Inviting buffet with sushi, Mongolian grill and typical Chinese buffet fare. The shrimp and broccoli dish was great as was the lo mein. Friendly service and a solid spot to scratch a Chinese buffet itch in Cumberland. read more

Great food and service. There are many options here. The building is clean. Busy and polite staff. I like the hibachi area as well. I feel like that is always needed. Drinks always taste just right here. You will find less food here during closing. They are closing up. People have to sleep. read more

I've been going to this buffet since it was the Grand China buffet, so some years. But this is about New Oriënt and not the Grand China. My experience here has always been pretty good. The staff are polite & courteous, the bathrooms are always clean and the rest of the restaurant is clean as well. The staff are attentive, but sometimes I don't get a drink refill for a bit, I know it depends on how crowded they are and other customers to attend to. I do agree with another reviewer with this place showing it's age, but to me, that's not a negative, it shows the history, charm and long lasting of businesses and not just tear down the building and make a brand new cookie-cutter looking building just because. It's not in the interest of the people here to do that, it would be wasteful and I probably would not feel as comfortable going to the buffet if it was all new, sterilized and artificial looking, where it would not have any charm. A side tangent, that's what I don't like about the new location of the goodwill in La Vale, it just feels so new and has no character or charm to it, compared to the older location in the plaza with the Ollie's. Since COVID-19, I understand the paintings aren't up on the walls probably for easier cleaning, but I go to Chinese buffets and take out places for the aesthetics and cultural design, it really adds to the warmth and happiness I feel going- so to me, yes, it's a negative there that it has lost a bit of that charm. I do hope they put the paintings back up again. I'd love to chat with the ladies there but I understand it's a business and not a social club, I just feel always welcomed to the buffet and the staff are always polite. There is a good variety of food- Americanized Chinese food, but I like it. A negative about the food would be sometimes some of the buffet items sit out for a bit, and I think they should be checked on more often, and with items like the gravy, mashed potato's and such, stirring it around at times to keep it all evenly heated would be better. Also, sometimes the food replacements don't come out enough when a buffet item is gone, but they do their best here, and I appreciate that, and sometimes I ask one of the women if they could ask the cooks in the back if they can make more of the food that's out. They have the usual Americanized Chinese food that you expect..The usual American food for these buffets are here too, like pizza, mac & cheese, chicken wings, mashed potatoes, etc. There is also different seafood for dinner, sushi and a hibachi grill where can have raw ingredients cooked to your liking. It would be nice if they would have orange chicken though, I've always known that's more of a popular dish, and not honey chicken. I also like the desserts and fruit selection, they're pretty fresh and flavorful. I usually go for pineapple and ice cream for fruit and dessert. I guess I'm used to Asian culture, especially Chinese, Taiwanese and Hong Konger, so there are thick accents from the women, but I can easily understand them, and they do their best too with speaking English, I am understanding of that. I would give this a 4 out of 5 stars, not 5 mainly because the paintings on the walls not being up takes away a bit of the charm of this place. I am a frequent visitor to this restaurant, almost always for carry-out. The food is relatively good, the only issue I have is with the rudeness of the staff...perhaps it's a culture thing, but an occasional thank you would be nice...in fact, when I asked for to-go containers, she basically tossed them at me.... I guess, unless I'm going in there to sit and eat... I'm just a nuisance to them. read more

This place is good. There's a variety of different food options you can eat, the service is quick for the most part, the dining area is usually always clean. The restaurants a bit old and some of it is outdated but it's a Chinese buffet and grill, it kinda has some history in those walls, so really I don't see the problem with it. The food is usually always cooked freshly, they always refill the slots that are running out. The only downside I can think of is the bathrooms never feel clean. A lot of it just feels "icky" if you ask me, but I REALLY like to come to this place even if it might not be much. Though there is a slight issue with how the servers act, sometimes they seem to have attitude but for the most part I've never had a problem with them, they do get busy and they have to stay on top of making sure the food is ok. Was happy to have wound up here on the long drive back to Baltimore from Toledo. There was a good selection, and it was pleasing that the food was hot. Even the egg rolls, an item one often finds has been sitting for a while at many Chinese buffets, were hot and fresh. They had a seafood boil, consisting of mussels, shrimp, and crawfish that was generously seasoned with garlic and rather pleasing. Their fried wings were another item that was consistently hot, something one always wants with such an item. The pepper steak was made with red bell peppers, which of course make for a great taste. The staff was friendly and attentive. My waitress was all smiles, seemingly a genuine trait of hers, and she even helped me with my Mandarin. This reviewer would recommend it. It's yummy food, great service, and a very reasonable price. It's a haul from Baltimore... but I'd happily eat there again. read more

Probably the worst Chinese buffet I have ever eaten in. The food looks spectacular . after sampling several chicken and several seafood entrées it was very apparent that most of it was extremely over cookEd. I could not even cut my honey chicken with the knife it was so hard. They had beautiful grilled shrimp on the buffet look spectacular until you try to peel it was able to get a small sliver of meat out of it . When you go there, keep in mind this is a buffet. Given that, for $14, it's actually a decent buffet. There is a wide variety of acceptable-level Americanized Chinese food, as well as sushi, seafood, and your standard overweight Americana dishes like mac-n-cheese, lasagna, chicken wings, and pizza. There's a decent selection of desserts, and I liked the ice cream, even if 3 of the 8 bins were butter pecan. The biggest gripe is that the cucumbers are sliced in 1 inch thick slices. The staff is cordial, though we could have used more drink refills. The seating area is clean, though showing some age. Yesterday after eating lunch with my husband & grandson I stopped as leaving & told the hostess & gentleman that had been walking around continuously while we were there that the food & service was wonderful Food was hot & fresh waitresses knew several of returning customers a wonderful experience & meal read more

It's alright. Food is ok...service is good though. Prolly won't be back. Stuff on the buffet isn't very hot. Each food offered is iffy...ice cream and desserts aren't bad but kinda hard to mess up those lol. Place is fairly clean so that's a plus. read more

I used to give gift certificates to this place at christmas/birthday time to my parents because they really enjoyed it. They even got me going here semi-regularly thru the years!Always a good bang for the buck, and without sacrifice!!! Over the last couple years, it has gotten steadily lousy and this evening I had the worst fathers day dinner ever with my dad and daughter, and I wont be going back. We ate slowly waiting for a buffet restock for over 2 hours (4p to 6p mind you) and it never happened. Everything we ate was litterally so hard we could barely chew it (THAT PIZZA, GOOD GOD!). I understand times are harder than ever now, and alot of places are struggling to stay afloat, but to someone who has probably spent well over 15k over the course of abt 10 years, faithfully, Ive been around thru the whole decline, and i cant stomach another level of degradation... I suggest you take the $95 dollars I paid this evening,(6 adults 1 child 3 soft drinks 4 waters) and get yourself just about anywhere else imaginable. Even McDonalds! Ive never even got a Midnight McNasty so terrible, and i go there very regularly on lunch. Everywhere has a good day and a bad one but when youre on the 740+th day in a row theres a problem. I know my Dad only cleaned the plate to get the moneys worth, and my kid ate probably half the worth in cake lol, its a shame because the people running it seem wonderful they always remember us... just ugh, all good things come to an end lol. read more
