Its 2026 and I've been shopping at the Mission since the 1990s when I was a freshman in college…read more Its the little thrift shop that CAN!
I have bought furniture for my homes, clothing, jewelry, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, CDs, books and DVDs; I'm talking Tom Cruise films, Prince albums, classical tapes, books on tape, Christmas cartoons, Disney movies, Seinfeld seasons - AND THEY WORK. Some stuff I have had for YEARS.
I have bought couches and toys for my preschool that outlasted fancy catalogs and store items. For my home, I have bought chairs, pans, dishes, knick-knacks and tables.
The prices are cheap and beyond reasonable. As for clothes, I just go and look for treasures- dresses, tops, skirts, pants, jackets--- I have found leather, sequins, work staples and funky party garments.
Whatever I buy I WASH/DISENFECT. Every so often an item may not work out well or last long BUT since I pay like 85% off, I'm not mad and don't feel cheated.
I also like how I know they money goes to helping the homeless and people trying to return to Society after making mistakes. Its not much but every bit helps. I hadn't shopped there in decades BUT since the Pandemic, The Mission has really helped me out. My Mom introduced me to this little shop ages ago when I was a youth, told me to not be too proud to thrift shop because every so often, TIMES ARE HARD and you need to survive on Pennies, Quarters and Dollars.
They never carry shoes I can fit, lol. But besides that, I'm happy with what I can find. I'm so OVER outrageously expensive retail that is poorly made and barely lasts a year. I like having Old School items that have unique style and were made when businesses still had standards.
