We have been part of Sky Martial Arts since 2023. Before joining Sky, we checked out two other…read morestudios and did trial classes in order to find the best fit for my two kids (then 5 and 7 years old). Even though Sky was the furthest away from our house, we chose this dojang for the following reasons: 1) Grandmaster Yoon, the founder of the studio was the world Taekwondo champion in his prime and continues to be an influential figure in the world of Taekwondo. 2) Master Yoon who is the grandmaster's son and the current owner of the studio was a US Taekwondo champion as well. This gave me confidence as a parent that this studio was legit. 3) The instructors and masters of the studio are very skilled. It was impressive how they could keep even the youngest students behaving and engaged in class while maintaining a warm and friendly environment. 4) The studio taught not just the physical sport of taekwondo, but also the spirit of taekwondo which is so deeply rooted in the Korean culture of respect. Parents also play an important part in submitting each student's report card on their behavior at home. 5) The studio has been around since the 90's, and the students who trained here as kids back then are still here now as student leaders and even masters. This serves as a huge role model to the younger generation. 6) The classes are divided by belt level, not age. Having two kids in different age groups, it was a huge plus that they could learn alongside each other in the same class. Sky Martial Arts has become a big part of our community the past few years. It has been rewarding to see my kids grow and work hard to advance to the next belt level each time. We also had the privilege of joining the competition team and participating in various tournaments around the Bay Area. I couldn't be more proud when my kids first got their gold and silver medals thanks to their hard work and the masters' training and support. The studio also hosts occasional workshops for the community like Women's Self-Defense class, which I have personally benefitted from. My family is extremely satisfied with Sky Martial Arts and recommend it to anyone--no matter their age--who are interested in learning martial arts. This is the perfect place to book your trial class and begin your Taekwondo journey!

I personally gravitated towards Amber Leibrock (tall & tatted girl). Amber Leibrock is also the kids class coach so I also enrolled my 11 year old nephew so we can build him up too. I always leave the gym feeling stronger and with an increase in confidence. They really try and ensure you have the enough experience before letting you go to more advanced classes and the result? well I have been to watch many of the professional fighters and they usually always win so that is really motivational for the newer people. I personally have placed my emphasis on muay thai but they also have Jujitsu and Crossfit. I feel like I am now a more technical fighter and I can't wait for each day to keep progressing with my training. All of the coaches are awesome and have given me great advice in my life which I will forever be grateful for. CSA is the best gym I have ever been to and I never want to quit since they are my family now. Thank you for everything Coach K, Amber, MJ, Jessica, and Javi.

One side of the gym has multiple striking and grappling equipment for the MMA program including a ring and cage. The other side of the gym has a full CrossFit area with weights pull up bars. I personally have attended most of the classes the MMA program has to offer and all the coaches are some of the best in the game, but I attend the morning Muay Thai class with Amber the most and she is a fantastic coach with years of experience. My overall striking and grappling have improved because of this gym and I plan to train here as much as I can. Thanks CSA!

As an adult, I'm in the teenager group since they don't have adult-only classes, but they do accept adults there. Classes include physical exercises, TKD basics (both the physical techniques and theory), character building, sparring, and forms. The regular classes maintain a medium level of physical activity. Parents can attend all classes and watch their children perform. There's also a sparring team for those who want more of a challenge - it's much more physically demanding and even includes a run at 8:30 on Sundays. Students of all ages participate, and the team attends competitions with trainers. The school focuses on both form and sparring, with a strong emphasis on safety. They don't push sparring until students feel comfortable with it, and all sparring is done in full gear. There's no head contact until students reach higher belt levels, but helmets and mouth protectors are always used. They sell uniforms and all required equipment at the school itself. They use a 3-stage system per belt color: white stripe, full color, and black stripe. Each belt has a set of clear requirements that students know, and they earn special marks on the belt as they progress, making it easy to see how prepared they are. None of the belts are given too fast and the exams are actually fair. As a result, kids have a very strong feeling of progression and that their efforts are rewarded. There's also a digital system to keep track of all requirements and a YouTube channel where teachers demonstrate the necessary skills, along with recordings of events and regular school activities. There's a strong sense of community here. Most kids have been training for years, and the same teachers have been running the school for a long time. There are a lot of girls at the school, at least a third of all students. Some of the younger black belts help with teaching, which gives them opportunities to develop further. The teachers are extremely helpful. Students with no skills join all the time - it's totally fine to show up in regular sport clothes - and they get an assigned teacher who walks them through everything during the first class or two to help them not feel left out afterward. The other students are always willing to help as well.

My 7-year-old daughter, who was excited about her birthday and was also taking a trial class at this place, was subjected to this without our consent. This was a traumatic and unprofessional experience. When I raised my concerns, I was told this practice is a non-negotiable tradition. While my daughter, despite being upset, wanted to continue with classes, I felt this environment was unsafe and disrespectful. I would not recommend this place if you value respectful treatment and a positive learning environment for your children.
