This is my second review on Quarry Lane after four years. My younger one has flourished in the past two years here and we are incredible grateful for the nurturing environment, especially thankful to his current pre-k teachers Ms. Swati. She has helped my son mastered alphabets, phonics and foundational math skills. Beyond academics, she has also been doing a great job developing his social emotional skills. My son used to be very shy and now with her patience and understanding, he has built strong confidence when interacting with others. In addition, she is also top notch in communicating with us about the development of our son so that we know how to collaborate better with her at home and at school. We feel very fortunate to have Ms Swati as our son's teacher. Highly recommend for anyone who is looking to prepare their kids well for stepping into K. The rest of the school staffs are also wonderful. Ms. Liz, the school Director warmly greets the kids and parents every morning. She is always willing to listen and truly understands the students need. We are very grateful of her and all the school staffs to make QL a wonderful place for our kids to grow and learn. read more

Ms. Swati is an amazing teacher at Quarry Lane school. My child is in her Pre-k class and he has progressed so much with memorizing and writing the entire alphabet and numbers, writing full words, sentences, and now paragraphs. He is is also very excited everyday about the topic of the curriculum whether it's about the human body and all the organs, the ocean or plants. His confidence and love for learning and engagement at school has improved in her class. I attribute this to her teaching style and how she interacts and engages with him. I'm very pleased and happy with she was my son's pre-k teacher because I think she has instilled in him a love for school. I highly recommend Ms. Swati! read more

I'm posting this so no parent gets the surprise I received. We sent our son to this school in the 2s room. He was 25 months and had been home with me for first two years of his life. It was a disaster experience. I should have known based on drop off the first morning. The teacher was over her head and couldn't even give me directions on where to place the items I brought for my son like diaper and change of clothes. The first day at pick up I didn't really get any positive feedback, it was all about what he could be doing better. On day 4 I received this picture in daily highlights/update. It broke my heart. We pulled him immediately from program and found a more nurturing school where the teachers just loved and nurtured him. This was almost two years ago now but kind of traumatized me as a parent. Each child is unique and precious. Please find an environment that acknowledges that and is focused on developing the whole child. We had a positive experience with my older child at the quarry lane west school. I don't know if it was because she was older at time of enrollment or better teachers at that location. read more

Absolutely love the QLS (Pleasanton East) campus. It has been the beat decision for my daughter. She started with Pre-school class and transitioned to pre-K. We like the curriculum, attention to each child, safety measures, extra curricular activities, and social emotional learning. I would like to specially mention Ms. Swati, and Ms. Raksha. They continue to do great work year after years. I have seen major improvement in my child's writing, and reading skills. They make sure to attend specific needs on an individual basis. We have had 2 children go through the Quarry Lane Preschool program and both have had a great experience. Several of the teachers have been a highlight of our family's experience, especially Ms. Swati and Ms. Michelle. Ms. Swati is a dream of a teacher. She is kind, warm, and loving, while still teaching the kids discipline. Our kids were happy and excited to attend school everyday and I attribute this to Ms. Swati. We saw substantial progress in reading and writing under her guidance. She put in additional effort to personalize her teaching for each of our children and adapted the curriculum to keep them challenged (but still engaged in learning). She truly goes above and beyond to prepare her students for the next step of their education, while still maintaining a nurturing environment. We and our children both felt confident for them to start the next phase of their education because of Ms. Swati's exceptional coaching and guidance. read more

My son started here when he was 2.5 years old. I was impressed with the principal, Ms. Liz, who always talks to parents and understands their needs. Ms. Sharon at the front desk is also very nice and helpful. The 2s class is excellent, and in the 3-4 years class, we have Ms. Swati, who is very good with kids' academics. I don't teach my son much at home, but he has learned a lot at school, including numbers, phonics, and writing. My only minor complaint is that there are too few outdoor activities. We probably got super lucky when we enrolled our girl to Pleasanton East STEM Class. The School campus is well built + the classrooms are super colorful. I literally felt that I want to study here and relive my childhood memories.. age restrictions tho :) From Ms. Liz (Director) to Admin staff to all Teachers were just so supportive and followed the Growth Mindset ideology. We have had a wonderful experience with all the teachers at Quarry Lane (Ms. Swathi, Ms. Bindu, Ms Aarti, Ms Michelle). Ms. Swathi has done a wonderful job with our child in writing, listening and vocabulary skills. The structure and individual attention Ms Swathi & Ms. Bindu provides has benefited him. My child made tremendous progress in vocabulary, reading, and writing skills under Ms. Swathi's guidance. Ms. Swathi goes above and beyond to adapts her teaching to individual child's needs. This review applies to the preschool on Quarry Lane, Pleasanton, not the grade K-12 private school located in Dublin. At one point we had 2 children in Quarry Lane Daycare and Preschool and I wouldn't have wanted to send them anywhere else though it was a bit of a haul from San Ramon. The staff is excellent - very nurturing for the toddlers and younger children, and a little firmer with the older kids who need to learn about limits. The education is topnotch - a good portion of each day is spent on learning the alphabet, numbers, reading, etc. not to mention music and Spanish classes. However, there is also plenty of time spent outdoors in the large play yards which are segregated by class. The only downside is that the school is quite strict on behavior. Our child was admittedly a bit rambunctious and needed some extra coaching. But the staff goes a little overboard - boys will be boys at playtime, and you can't expect a child who isn't sleepy to stay still for 2 hours at nap time (as opposed to reading). However we did find that the staff was willing to work with us to resolve issues - something you won't find everywhere. Yes, QL is a bit pricey, but remember you get what you pay for when it comes to preschool. If you are just looking for someone to watch your children all day then hire a nanny or an au pair, or drop your children at at an in-home daycare. But if you want your children to develop academically and socially, i.e. learn how to get along with other children, then send them to QL. Thanks to QL, our kindergartner is now far ahead of his neighborhood peers in language skills - he basically learned most of the public school K curriculum in his pre-K class at QL. Addendum: Due to a couple of moves we have now experienced 4 preschools. QL really stands out for having great teachers and a great learning experience. read more

After enrolling two children ( 7 years total with QLS), I have to comment at our extreme satisfaction with the curriculum, staff, safety measures, organization, energy at the Boulder St location -- it has been a dream come true for our family -- and became family in the process. On a social level, some of our closest friends we met at QL -- traveling, enjoying life together for the past years! Kids became best friends, parents did too! How about that!? On an educational front, our experience over the past 7 years ( Alexis started at age 2 in 2012, Kyle in 2015- just 3 months old!) has brought only positive, rewarding experiences with the Boulder St Director- Jennifer Silva, the exceptional !! teaching staff ( too many to name, ALL are outstanding, 5 star women!! never one issue in all our years) who successfully guided our children against an impressive and challenging curriculum. They craved going to school and often complained when I picked them up early ( ie; 5:55 pm vs closing time at 6 PM - every minute counts! :)) Leaving QL is bittersweet - we remain extremely proud of the educational foundation both Kyle and Alexis have been given - " the best of the best" under the Boulder St team. Both our children thrive in their education but remain good listeners, responsible, respectful and happy children - Matt and I connect the dots to their QLS foundation. I loved my experience at Quarry Lane. My older son had issues with his fine motor skills but with the help of our favorite teacher ever- Ms. Swati- he excelled and was academically advanced (and emotionally ready) for kindergarten. This experience had me sending my younger son to Quarry Lane as well. He started a semester sooner than my older son and as such, was introduced to a few other teachers who were also wonderful (Kristin, Amy, Janna, Darren, Sandy, and Michelle). He is almost done at this campus and I am so amazed with his academic and emotional progress. The extended day program with Ms. Swati really was the cherry on top! She really made all the difference with BOTH of my boys! I hope she gets a class of her own again! I'm sad to go as I really loved the teachers and people here. Thank you QL, thank you to ALL the teachers who made my kids feel special .. and the biggest thanks of all to Ms. Swati for you kindness, understand, and the way you taught my kids!!! What is sad is management does not support or appreciate their teachers when things get rough. My child went there for years as of a few months ago and they have aggressive children in their classes and yet management has done nothing about these aggressive children who not only attack my child at the time but i have seen attack the teachers. I was so disappointed I took my child out and my child went through a few teachers at the time because of this, teachers she loved. They rather get rid of their teachers than handle the problem with these aggressive children and this is my assumption based on what I have seen when I would drop my daughter off. Recently, I heard from a family member, who's daughter goes there, that they got rid of her child's teacher as told to her by another teacher currently working there who was present last week before this teacher was no longer working there and witnessed it all, I'm not surprised. It's upsetting from management. Don't take your child there. Glad I got my daughter out. read more

I have waited more than 1 year to post this review thinking that I wouldn't be as disappointed or angry.I enrolled my child to this school after reading the fabulous reviews. I would give the school a 0 if I could. I enrolled my (at that tine) 1 year old son. I was unhappy with the fact that I heard ( on numerous occasions) the teachers yelling at these small kids. They are not affectionate toward these kids when at this time that's all they need. They don't need to know their alphabet forward and backward. They just need to play. My child would cry everyday during drop off and one of the teachers had the audacity to say that she turns on the music to drown out his cries cause he cries to loud. WTH??? Who says that? Especially as a teacher??? I felt horrible during the time I'm dropping off. That's when I decided to switch him. He now goes to another private school and is incredibly happy. Never cries during drop off and is learning beyond what my hopes. read more

My son attended this school for 1 year from the ages of one and a half to two and a half. While expensive, the hours were flexible for working parents and several of the teachers were very nice and interested in our son's development. However, about half of the staff were either too lazy to attend to the children or extremely patronizing. The academics focused on one letter and number per week, but after a year of this our son was ready to move on. We did get good training in saying "please" and "thank you". Through pickups at different times of day we often noticed children playing alone without supervision. The teacher to student ratio is definitely too low at these young ages. We found the administrative staff and director to be rude and off-putting. Our parent-teacher conference focused on whether our son would work hard enough to meet the demands of an even lower teacher-to-student ratio in the class for 2 years 9 months and up. Rather than a failing of the school this situation was presented as a high bar for our toddler to learn to be independent and take care of all his needs (educational, snack, and toilet) by that age! Overall, not a good value for the money. read more

Pros: They curriculum is good, emphasis on academics - letters, numbers, colors, words etc. (If that is what you want). Extra curricular - Soccer, Gym lessons offered in school for extra $ Cons: The teacher to child ratio is a bit high for the cost. For 2 year olds, although they say it is 1:8, I have counted 21 kids and 2 teachers on several occasions. Its a big chaos if you ever step into the class during peak hours, children screaming, one teacher tending to children in the bathroom and the other changing diapers with other kids running around screaming, on occasions fighting. Clearly the ratio is off and I doubt if the management even cares Expect a $100 tuition increase every year, I have not see any other school do this on a regular basis! For sure they look good on paper with the curriculum but it was not where I thought my kid will get the level of attention she deserves. There are other schools in the area that offer better care with lower ratios at the same price. read more

Loved my experience with QL, especially the pre-k class by Ms. Swati. She is an awesome teacher, not only did i see a drastic difference in my daughters reading & writing skills but i saw a good difference in her social skills too. Infant program is $1,775 a month for standard daycare. Nothing is special about this place except the name "Quarry Lane". In two months attending my child was infected with foot and mouth disease, stomach flu, regular flu and biten twice with broken skin (went to Dr 4 times, and minor injuty 1). With all the time we stayed home I think we paid an average of $60 an hour the first month... Nightmare. My husband almost passed out everytime we got a call. Not sure if they cut down on the cleaning with the economy but eek... babies put everything in their mouth. The actual classroom teachers are nice but seems the administration is greedy and fake. Beware! Gave our notice on the 2nd of the month being Aug 31st our last day (30 day notice required) I got a bill in the mail for $86 for one day, one day that my child wouldn't even be there. Not to mention they are also closed on the 30th & 31st... I should have sent them an invoice for the $2OO in medical bills :) I just paid it and will never look back... read more

I can't say enough about the teachers in the Flashy Fish classroom (18 mo-24 mo). They are all very caring and nurturing. I can honestly see that the teachers in this class care for all of the children in their care. They are honestly happy to be there. After a disasterous non-start (we pulled our son before he even started) at another daycare, we enrolled our son here. The staff went out of their way to make my son's transition from a nanny to daycare as easy on him as possible. That included making sure his parents felt comfortable about the transition. I would not hesitate to recommend this school to anyone. read more

My son has been attending the half day preschool for 3 weeks now and we are completely happy so far. He was previously at another local preschool and seemed pretty miserable. He is now excited to attend school and loves going three days per week. He has even asked us to send him every day. Yes, this place is expensive. Yes, this place is academic. You get what you pay for, though. In just three short weeks, my son has gone from not being able to write any letters at all to writing (happily, I might add) several letters. They started utilizing the Handwriting Without Tears program this year and it's awesome. My kids get tons of free time outside of school to be creative, learn how to interact with others, and run around. I felt it was important for my son to be 100% ready for Kindergarten (academically and socially) when the time comes, and I am totally at ease now that we are at Quarry Lane. They have a perfect mix of academics and socialization. The teachers are gentle and talk to the kids on their level. Also, they send home "homework" and weekly digests so you know what's been going on in the classroom. The homework is basically just optional stuff to do in your spare time if you feel like it. My son has been excited to practice his letters, so we've been doing the letter sheets. Two thumbs way, way up. p.s. they also have music class MWF, so he gets to attend every day and has been singing the songs at home. Love this!! read more

My review is for the preschool program at QL. In particular I've been fortunate to encounter some amazing teachers. In particular Ms. Swati has single handedly shaped my son for kindergarten. Ms. Swati is a true educator not only academically, but socially as well. She runs her class with discipline and order, and truly grooms her student for kindergarten. She along with Ms. Heather (who is super sweet) do a fantastic job of making sure your child's individual needs are addressed and that you as a parent are aware of his/her progress and shortcomings. I think it's vital as a parent to have her assessment and guidance for kindergarten. I would also like to mention that Ms. Arti and Ms. Michelle do an excellent job of getting kids ready for pre-K, and each teacher builds onto the other. Although we had some teacher turnover in my child's 2 year old class, all teachers have been very sweet....especially Ms. Jenalyn and Ms. Sukanya. They give hugs and are very nurturing; which is actually hard to find nowadays. I do wish the student teacher ratios were a bit better, but I do feel the teachers are loving and motivated to teach. read more

We transferred our son to Quarry Lane when he was 2.5 years old from a different nearby school where we experienced frustration reaching the teachers / administration, even in situations where he would come home with an injury. He was also complaining that his teachers were "hitting" him, which we can't really verify, but it was clear that he was not thriving at the previous school. As two working parents, ease of communication with the school was a top priority, so we decided to enroll our son in Quarry Lane after a friend's recommendation, and we are so glad we did. Do you ever wonder what your child is doing in class? I didn't, as I was given daily reports on what the class was doing, homework, as well as pictures on most days. Need fast communication? An email to the school was all that was required, and they always responded within the day. Worried about your kid's food allergies? Not us - this is a nut-free school and the teachers communicated party days where egg-containing products might be eaten, so we could provide an alternate snack. Check-in / check-out is automated and timely. There were emails summarizing the activities and calendar for the month. Really, they made things as easy as possible for the parents. Our son thrived at this school over the last 3 years. Looking back, the teachers really employed age-appropriate methods when engaging with the students. Fantastic Foxes (2 year olds) teacher was very sweet and nurturing. Teachers for 3/4s were disciplined in their approach, teaching kids how to follow rules and regulate their emotions. I am especially impressed with his last teachers (Wonderful Whales), who have transformed my son from a kid who had ZERO interest in learning to one who LOVES to show off what he knows and is excited to learn new things. During his time at Quarry Lane, our son has changed from the kid who could not even look at other kids due to his shyness to one who has 6 best friends in class, and all the kids appear to be lovely kids from loving families. This last point baffles and delights my husband and I because we are both introverts and were awkward in school. At first I was worried that Quarry Lane was too "academic" because I would have preferred a play-based preschool for my son, but in the end, I have no doubt that he benefited from this school academically, socially, and emotionally. Given all the things we worried about with him 3 years ago, having the confidence that he is well-prepared for kindergarten / elementary is absolutely priceless. What is this school not? This school is not a daycare, nor is it an individualized, play-based or montessori-like environment. There are schedules and routines and straight up classical learning. There is a very defined regimented aspect to the school that some parents may not like. Given our dual-working family's particular needs and our son's social / food / academic challenges, we really needed Quarry Lane's approach to education, and the outcomes speak for themselves. We our strongly considering enrolling our daughter in the school when she turns 2 - our only hesitation being that Quarry Lane is farther away from us now that we moved. read more

Many of the reviews seemed mixed. The most recent review from the parent of the little girl seems a bit like a fairy tale. It's great that your child is perfect, and seems to thrive in any situation. It's naive to think all children should fit in the same exact box, especially boys versus girls. Not being potty trained at 24 months does not mean a child is not mentally capable of keeping up with the Quarry Lane curriculum. Most parents want their children to thrive. My child attended Quarry Lane for about a year before we decided their programs were not a fit for my family. I do admire the diversity of the programs brought in from outside vendors, I do feel there are many elements within QL that are done at a minimum. For example the class ratio 1-10, the California maximum. Basically QL charges the higher tuition rates than comparable programs, and then gives the children the least amount of adult supervision required by CA. Every morning at drop off the classroom was a completely chaotic, kids crying, teachers scrambling to ensure they were meeting the CA ratio as other children began to check in, and overall a mess. Often the teacher's seemed stressed and overwhelmed. I was informed last Friday, that one of the teachers has left QL to pursue other career opportunities. Hopefully her replacement will have a better time. Like other reviews my child battled diaper rashes throughout the week, and had excessive injuries. While I agree that incidents are part of growing up, incidents that cause scares, and regular bruising are not. At some point QL needs to review the ratio they have with the young preschool classes. When my concerns were brought to the Director's attention, we were again disappointed by her response. She seemed distracted, like she did not care, and overall not equipped to work with us. If you want a stellar reputation, the luxury of charging high tuition, and satisfied families you need to provide a through thoughtful program. read more

My 3 and 5 year old did very well in Quarry Lane (Dublin). They surpassed my expectations scholastically My kids loved going to school each morning. Ms Widmer was very patient and approachable. As far as academic preparation for ages 6 weeks to Jr K, Quarry Lane is second to none. My boys were potty trained by 18 months and writing their names by 3 yrs. This daycare is for families who value a true academic environment prior to Kindergarten and want more for their child than just a safe tot drop. In addition to the strong educational focus, there are a number of other thngs I like about Quarry Lane, such as: *Excellent receptionist who is not intimidated to address unfamiliar people or situations. (Don't be "bothered" by the "gatekeeper" Miss M. She is a phenomenal asset who does a great job monitoring who is entering the building. Safety First!) *Video surveillance *Key fob entry *Academic based learning environment (versus play based) *Daily schedule (each room has different schedule prepared by room teacher) *Very low turnover rate with staff *Staff cover for each other and babies get to know the teachers they will have in their next class before they "graduate" to the next level (very comforting for both child and parent) *Potty training at 2 years old *Very accessible Director, Assistant Director and Admissions Director *Regular safety/disaster/etc training for all staff *Strict sanitizing procedures for infant and toddler rooms *Smart pick up policy--if someone new is picking up your child, teachers will not release a child until they show photo i.d and name is verified with your pre-authorized pick-up list. One thing I do not like about the Quarry Lane east campus is the parking lot. There are not many parking spots, so it is best to avoid the 9a drop off and 5:30p pickup crowds. **FYI to those with a nanny, a full time nanny at $15 hrly is more than the monthly tuition here. If you value the in-home convenience, light housekeeping and/or meal prep that a teenager, au pair or nanny might be providing for you, more than you value your child's early education and socialization skills, then Quarry Lane is not for you. read more

I like this school overall. For infant program, the teachers are so friendly and experienced. They really know what they are doing. Ms. Sharon is excellent. She really understands parents' need and truly knows what babies need too! I highly recommend the infant program. The reason that I did not give 5 starts is for its preschool program. Overall we are happy with the school. There were up and down at times, but our boy was happy there, that's the thing that we care the most. He likes most teachers over there. Our daughter and family loved the experience at Quarry Lane, East Campus Pleasanton. She loved the classroom and atmosphere from the day one. Our kid was little shy when joined but Ms.Swathi and Ms.Amy have helped her to grow with strong personality. Pros: * She just loves to be going to school and loves her friends & teachers. * Ms. Swathi and Ms. Amy are very caring and loving and also shown quality professional approach on teaching. * Enjoyed the Carnival week, Dress up days, Bike day, Hat day, Toy day, Musical day and Environment related days. * Secured campus * Healthy and clean environment. * Excellent email communications on daily progress ( online Tadpoles), upcoming events and regular updates from Ms. Jennifer. * In a response to an incident, acted immediately in installing the new parking bollard system to ensure the sidewalk and playground areas are safe from vehicle. Cons: * High tuition fees. * Less parking availability during peak hours Overall we are very happy with Extended Pre-K and specially with Ms. Swathi. read more

My daughters are here and I am so grateful. They run a tight ship admininstratively, they are VERY good and communicating with the parents, they have great systems for providing updates/concerns about your children, they have great "extras" like camping or carnival week or dress up days, the teachers are very personal and loving but also professional and capible, my children stay healthy much more than our other school, my kids are so happy and run in to hug their teachers, they are happy to brag about their day. read more

first Yelp review ever! but had to since I saw the rude comment about the front desk. The fabulous lady at the front desk is simply that... fabulous. She is very friendly and helpful and my kids love her, as i do. I have 2 kids that have gone to the boulder st school since they were 4 months old. My oldest is now in kindergarten and is doing wonderful after his prep by QLS. My other son is still there in preschool even though we moved away from pleasanton. Nothing could compare to the care provided by the teachers at QLS.. and I certainly couldn't trust another school as i do this one. Thanks QLS! read more

There seem to be very mixed reviews about a year to 2 back...but my experience with my daughter (4yrs old) for last 6+months has been truly amazing. She just loves to be going to school and loves her friends/teachers. And, her social skills, speaking ability and general knowledge (yes she is only pre-k kid) has improved so much. Based on earlier reviews, looks like retaining teachers is a problem...but I m not sure how much of it one can control but so far in Boulder st school, I ve been seeing same faces from the start. More than anything, my daughter loves to get up every morning in anticipation of going to school - that answers everything about her 10hrs life in school. She loves her miss Rostini & Michelle. Just keep doing what you are now and rock on. read more

I wanted to write this review for Ms Swati's class- I'm extremely happy with her teaching skills and the fostering environment that she provides in her classroom. My son has been going to Ms Swati's class for the last 7 months or so and I have seen him improve his writing and reading skills dramatically. Ms Swati takes a lot of initiative and spends time with each and every kid in her class. My son is very happy and excited to go to his class. read more

My son went to QLS as an infant. We had a great experience in the infant (zebra) and toddler (fish) room. Two weeks before he turned two years old they started the transition to the 2's (Bunny) room and it was hell. On his Birthday he was in the Bunny room full time. 20 - 24 kids and 3 teachers was a joke. At nap time one teacher (18 years old) can watch all the kids provided they are sleeping, and it's legal. They only change diapers 3 x a day because it's all they have time for. By the 3rd weeks by son had open sores on his bottom and could not sit down in the tub at night. I would count the diapers in his bin in the AM and PM and found he was only changed 2x in a 9 hour day., exactly matching their sign off sheet. I reported the school and they were cited. Needless to say, we and the other 4 familes that moved to Bunnies from the Fish all have found others schools. QLS wants your $$. To this day, I remember speaking with the director about my concerns and her response was "well, this is what we offer". Please be careful. read more
