My 7 year old loves going to his TKD class. It is the ONLY time when he gets ready on his own to be there on time. Master Kim has taught my kid discipline and excitement for this martial art. The only one thing I don't like (and it is not Master Kim's fault) is that parents do not respect traffic/parking rules while picking up and dropping off kids to class. My 8 year old daughter and 5 year old son have been students here for the last 5 months. We wanted to enroll them in an activity that would be fun for them and teach discipline. My dad was a 4th degree black belt in Taekwondo, and I took classes as a kid myself, so I wanted a place that would provide legit instruction in form as well. Focus and confidence are major themes in Master Kim's teaching. In a short time I could tell they were learning these themes as well as learning self awareness and self control. Master Kim keeps the classes fun and appropriately challenging for each class level. My kids take pride in graduating up to the next belt level, which they legit earned! We are very disappointed with our experience with the school. My son's advanced belt (red with a black stripe) was taken away without any clear explanation. Instead he was given a white belt. A white belt after 4 years in Taekwondo! I emailed to the school asking to meet with Master Kim to discuss the issue. The request was declined with the words that Master Kim was not available for discussions. In her email Mrs. Shannon stated that "Master Kim explained to all of the students at the beginning of class today, that if they are unable to perform at their belt level they will lose their belt. If your son is confused he can check the Belt curriculum for what are the requirements for Red Advanced Belt.". That did not make sense neither to me nor to my son. He had always performed at maximum at Master Kim's classes. He had not had any discipline problems. My son received the Red Advanced belt at Master Kim's back in January 2017. Since then he's got about 15 black and red rewarding tapes on his belt, - that proves his diligence, not the opposite. After the issue with the belt we made a decision to cancel our membership with MKTA. At the end of the last class I asked Shannon to return my son's belt. She refused to give it back saying that he had to regain the belt, despite she knew that was our last class with the school. Not just for years of tuition, we have also paid fees for all the belt tests... only to end up with the white belt again. And no, we haven't gotten any money back. After years at MKTA what value have we got for our money? Looks like NONE! And if Master Kim is saying my son deserves only the white belt after 4 years at his school, isn't that Master Kim's failure? You might ask, where are all these kids from the video that plays on the screen in the school's window? - They all left and went to other schools! So did we... read more

I just walked in to sign up my 3 kids for their lessons and ask for the price and here's how the conversation went (paraphrased): Me: "Hi I'd like to sign up my kids for taekwondo." Reception: "ok did you just email us" Me: No, I just walked in and I'm interested in signing my children up - they are 10, 4 and 3 Reception: we can do 10 and 4 but not 3. Me: ok, no problem, how much for the classes. Reception: oh you have to register for the trial first it's free. Me: ok I will do that but can I know how much are the classes ?? Reception: oh but you have to sign up for the free registration first. You don't have to take the class if you want. Me : ok I will sign up but can I know how much are classes before I do that ?? Reception : oh no you have to sign up first! Me: $&@#% (in frustration and walks out) Is this some sort of high pressured sales pitch ? I just wanted to know how much are classes and if they are available ! Why do I have to be forced to go through a free trial and registration? That comes next if I want to take it or not ! I'm just going to go to another dojo where I can have transparency on prices and availability and which doesn't seem like a high pressured time share sign up ! read more

This guy does not know how to deal with little kids. He hosted a so-called taekwondo birthday party but did nothing but screaming at 3 year olds and humiliated the kids who could not perform the movements with phrases such as "who will be the last one" and punished the whole group if one person can't complete the movement. There was no consideration of this is not an actual lesson but a birthday party and he was dealing with toddlers who had no experience with martial arts period. I don't care that was his teaching style. A good coach would know how to tailor each student's need. At the end of the party, he was proud of he "disciplined" the little ones. He won't be a good coach for your child. Only go there if you want your child to be traumatized with bad teaching. He can't individualized based on your child's needs. Go somewhere else. Don't send your child there. read more

MKTA is an amazing place. I take classes along with my 2 kids, Miles and Darcy, twice a week and we enjoy it so much. We've all come such a long way in about 8 months.
